This Might be the best thing Bush has done in his tenure
Bush vetoes farm bill, saying it is irresponsible
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Bush vetoed the $300 billion farm bill on Wednesday, calling it a tax increase on regular Americans at a time of high food prices in the face of a near-certain override by Congress.
It was the 10th veto of Bush's presidency. But since it passed both houses of Congress with veto-proof majorities, his action will likely be overridden.
The president believes the legislation is fiscally irresponsible and gives away too much money to wealthy farmers, yet his criticism rang hollow with lawmakers from both parties who voted for increased crop subsidies, food stamps for the poor and other goodies to help their districts in an election year.

LOL
I would certainly imagine that Bush selected Cheney as a guarantee that nothing would ever happen to him.
Because no matter how much you detest Bush, Cheney makes him look like and innocent school girl.
I thought maybe
he drove off a cliff, instead of pushing us over it. Damn!
Careful what you wish for...
Can you imagine 7 months of a lame duck Cheney presidency??? Bush is definitely the lesser of 2 evils right now.

Oh, if Bush knew
it would pass over his veto, then that is why he did it.

When I read the title of this thread I was hoping he had accepted an invite from Dick Cheney to go hunting.

Yeah!, I heard Dick Cheney was bad shot.

"Observe the masses, and do the opposite."
My impression is that this is bogus
because the small farmers are the ONLY ones hurt, thus the reason for the veto. This is not a NEW bill.
This clears the way for Monsanto to continue doing it's harm; for them to include milk from "cloned" cows to be put in our milk w/o our knowledge.
They (and Tyson) will sell "cloned" cow meat and not label it as such.
They are fighting labeling foods as GM (genetic modified) so we don't know we are eating poison, BUT want to label foods from other countries.
A French study proved Monsanto’s GMO corn causes kidney and liver toxicity.
They also "permit" up to 45 chemicals to be included in "organic food". You didn't really believe they would have a special section of your supermarket with higher priced "organic" foods with your good health in mind, did you?
Suggest you buy your meat from a LOCAL/known butcher only. Buy your fresh vegies and fruit the same way.
So, when you think of Monsanto, http://www.naturalnews.com/023254.html

Tyson, and WalMart, run like the wind - away!!!!
you can't have it both ways
you can't have it both ways though, if you want small government, you have to accept less regulation. i agree, people should buy meat from a local butcher. unfortunately, the free market economics that RP promotes requires the consumers are educated - in order to influence the products the market will supply. as it goes right now, many people will always buy the cheapest chicken/cheapest milk regardless of any ill effects...sad but true
at least he he vetoed a bloated spending bill! a step in the right direction.
Well, some legislation
has some merit - even when they pack it with *crap*. Bush did this for "show" only. Besides, he wants the money to kill more people.
Our ordinary farmers have gotten the short end of the stick for years. They were doing fine, then were enticed to "borrow" to expand, then could not pay back, then the rest is history. Part of the "plan".
The cost of a tractor and farm equipment is unbelievable! And add the increase in cost of seed, fertilizer, and not to mention the fuel to grow the feed for the animals. Thanks to Monsanto and genetically manipulated seeds, they don't have their own seed to re-use, therefore only one source of seed now. Can we spell monopoly!
If we don't keep them afloat, it will be like WalMart has done in EVERY community they invade! Huge farm corporations will have everyone by the b@$$s.
How many small farmers do you see these days? One or two bad years and they are out of business - period!
I'm glad I live in a rural area, brother in law has a dairy farm, and Amish not far away.
Local butcher is son-in-law, and we utilize 40 acres of land.
