GOP Press Release

When I look at what's been happening in Georgia, Nevada, and so many other states, I wonder, why even bother having these conventions? Why not save the time and money and expense of the dog and pony show, and just issue a press release, like, oh, this:

National GOP Names Their Nominee

(AP) - In an effort to streamline the bothersome and time-consuming convention process, GOP leadership (names classified) have opted to do away with delegates altogether this election year, and go straight to the announcement of the party nominee.

"It saves times and money, not to mention all the wear and tear on my Gucci slingbacks," stated delegate Dee Lusional. "Really, I'm thankful that I don't have to schlepp all the way to the conventions anymore, and can simply tune in to the nominee announcement which comes on TV right after American Idol, which is really handy. Why haven't we always done it this way?"

At a news conference held in a secure location (location name classified) today, reporters asked the GOP leadership (names classified) why they decided to take this new approach to the election process. "Well, first off, because we can, since we say so, and there's nothing you or anybody can do about it," she said, tossing her head with a gay laugh and sparkling eyes; her demeanor then changed into a more sober tone with a voice of confidentiality as she continued, "and also because, really, with something as serious and important as choosing the leader of our nation, well, come on, do you really want that choice left up to the people? I sure wouldn't. This way, the Republican voters can rest easy, knowing that their party -- who has only their best interests in mind! -- have already taken care of all the little niggling details-- ooh, can I say "niggling?" You know, I mean "pesky" -- anyway, we've got it alllll handled, so they needn't worry their pretty little heads about anything. We've got this boxed up and gift wrapped and we're delivering it to our Republicans with a big, shiny red bow! I think they'll appreciate all our hard work, really I do."

When asked about the other Republican candidate currently running for the GOP nomination, the GOP leadership (names classified) at first looked around and whistled softly, as if they were waiting for a bus and hadn't heard the reporter's question. Eventually, one man (name classified) spat out, "Than damned Ron Paul! He's making a mess of everything!!" He didn't get much further than that in his comments, as several members of the GOP leadership (names classified) donning earpieces and sunglasses quickly surrounded the man and escorted him to the water table. "He's had a bit too much sun," one of the helpful escorts (name classified) announced through tightly pressed lips.

The rest of the group shuffled uncomfortably around a bit, until one of them (name classified) confessed, "Well, yeah, there's that upstart who thinks he's in the race, but we all know better. We know who's really in the race because we control the race, and that...that man..." (Here she started trembling a bit.) "...that man is really starting to rankle me. I mean, we have to look at his signs everywhere we go; he gets all these people just showing up at all his rallies for nothing -- I mean, no one has to pay them a penny, and they just show up! You know, I'll bet it's all the same group of people, travelling all around the country, showing up at every rally he has; I'll just bet that's it. A bunch of basement-dwelling internet geeks with nothing better to do with their time than trot around after that ol' washed-up geezer who's older than the hills; who does he think he is, anyway; he's not going to last much longer, but he thinks he could be president of this country!"

Our reporter pointed out to this woman (name classified) that McCain is only one year Ron Paul's junior, and has had serious illnesses to deal with. The late-middle-aged woman waved away the statement. "Well, that don't matter, anyway. All that matters is, that Ron Paul, he's a phony. I mean it. He is obviously a phony. You know, they say he has supporters who will even post on chat rooms and go door-to-door to spread the word about him? Can you believe that?? [laughs]. Come on, now; I've been to his official web site, and they don't even offer points for people to post positive comments about him, so obviously, this is a hoax!"

Some delegates were disappointed at the announcement.

"I've gone to conventions for the past 32 years, and now all that I've worked so hard for over the years is gone in a flash," delegate Ken Undrum sighed. "After all the relationships I've built up over the years, fraternizing and schmoozing and boozing and wearing those neat styrofoam straw hats and swimming in a sea of red, white and blue balloons, and forgetting which hotel room was mine..." (Here he laughed the quiet chuckle of fond remembrances.) I don't know what we're gonna do now, without the convention and all. Guess we're going to have to invite folks over for our own party!" Asked how he felt about the impact this new approach of forgoing delegates and conventions might have on the selection of the party nominee, he looked perplexed and asked what that had to do with the party nominee at all.

It would appear that this progressive plan of simply announcing the party's nominee may indeed be welcomed. If this proves to be the success it seems destined for, GOP party leaders (names classified) are willing to discuss with Democratic party leaders (names classified) opportunities for streamlining the voting process in November, and having both parties work together to come up with a jointly-decided President and Vice President, whisking away the need for any presidential election fuss at all.

Our reporter jokingly asked if the Republicans and Democrats might decide on the winner based on which of them wins a poker hand. A member of GOP leadership (name classified) laughed heartily, "Oh, no! That would be flat-out silly!

"Most likely, we'd use a game of Bunko."

Fortune Favors the Bold

the modern GOP was the "party of the open door" for a reason. There were alliances of groups, sometimes with conflicting interests. In order to keep this alliance happy, the groups had to feel that there was a system in place, since they didn't exactly trust each other.

Roughly speaking, theses groups were, economic predator types, religous fundamentalist types, nationalist jingoist types (and a small group of libertarians).

This is why forcing the GOP's hand on this is a bigger deal then most realize. This will ultimately shatter the alliance. The neo-cons will not give up their control, even if it means they suffer a crushing defeat in the general.

Worth a bump

Not too far off from reality.

RP2012!

Well done!

Love posts like this... the fine edge between satire and reality.

The funny part is I can see this happening... the sad part is that I can see this happening.

come to St. Paul anyway

Your presence is welcome anyway. It looks like the GOP is little more than a racketeering-influenced corrupt organization. St. Paul is a great place to protest; very scenic with the Mississippi River; some nice examples of 1900-era neo-classical architecture; great Mexican and Italian and Vietnamese restaurants; and the left-liberal elements don't have their own act together so there is a good opportunity for a large turn-out of law-abiding Constitution-lovers to make their case to the people---even if the party doesn't want to listen!

Come a week early and leaflet and demonstrate at the State Fair--attendance usually almost two million---and it's right in town.

Technoklutz

Don't give them any ideas.

Don't give them any ideas. They still seem to be trying to figure out this thing called the Internet.

What a shocker as I read the first few lines! It seemed completely plausible that they would do it.

(get rid of the initial description and it will help stimulate)

What so hard to figure out... about the Internets that is

The internets is a series of tubes and sometimes they get clogged up.

To quote Senator Ted Stevens. "The Internet is not something that you just dump something on. It's not a big truck. It's a series of tubes. And if you don't understand, those tubes can be filled and if they are filled, when you put your message in, it gets in line and it's going to be delayed by anyone that puts into that tube enormous amounts of material, enormous amounts of material."

I mean come on... everybody knows this.

That story was funny as hell.

"Stimulate" or "Panic"?

Aw, I don't want to mislead people to think it's an actual GOP release. Readers would have a heart attack. You know why? One could easily through the *entire post* and still not realize it's satire.

Heck, I'm not even sure anymore if it's just satire!

And thus we arrive at the sadest part of this whole post.

I don't know it got my blood

I don't know it got my blood pumping a little bit, until I hit, "Dee Lusional," which is not too far down. That's when I read the initial blurb and my blood pressure went back to normal.

I laughed..but it was not

I laughed..but it was not really funny. I heard two GOP insiders , Ann Ialation
and Ty Ranny talking about how they had "screwed" Ron Paul people. I hope, somehow, those smiles are wiped off their faces, one way or the other. Like Hitler's Germany, many just helped him.

Fan,you are a good writer.

I'm from Washington and I'm a little pissed right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our One Party System

Tired of chosing between Council on Foreign Relations candidate A, and Council on Foreign Relations candidate B? Tired of pretending that we have a voice in the direction our nation is going?

If we can't take over the Republican Party, we need to work for its destruction. Let it merge with the other Council on Foreign Relations Party, the Democrats. We have to put an end to this charade.

I'm against the Republican

I'm against the Republican Party in every way--it's a grudge issue to me.

Before 9-11, I saw them as mere bumbling oafs. If you read the voting records of the Patriot Act, Military Commissions Act, and so on--while there is some Democrat support--it mostly breaks on party lines.

Hence the lesser of the two evils, based on the voting records and our quashed liberties, is the Democratic Party.

I won't vote for them either, of course, but there's no way I am "Dee Lusional" enough to put any faith in the reconstruction of this fascistic neo-con party.

I understand,

February 8, 2008

Whoa! What a year this has been. And what achievements we have had. If
I may quote Trotsky of all people, this Revolution is permanent. It
will not end at the Republican convention. It will not end in November. It
will not end until we have won the great battle on which we have
embarked. Not because of me, but because of you. Millions of Americans --
and friends in many other countries -- have dedicated themselves to the
principles of liberty: to free enterprise, limited government, sound
money, no income tax, and peace. We will not falter so long as there is
one restriction on our persons, our property, our civil liberties. How
much I owe you. I can never possibly repay your generous donations, hard
work, whole-hearted dedication and love of freedom. How blessed I am to
be associated with you. Carol, of course, sends her love as well.

Let me tell you my thoughts. With Romney gone, the chances of a
brokered convention are nearly zero. But that does not affect my determination
to fight on, in every caucus and primary remaining, and at the
convention for our ideas, with just as many delegates as I can get. But with
so many primaries and caucuses now over, we do not now need so big a
national campaign staff, and so I am making it leaner and tighter. Of
course, I am committed to fighting for our ideas within the Republican
party, so there will be no third party run. I do not denigrate third
parties -- just the opposite, and I have long worked to remove the
ballot-access restrictions on them. But I am a Republican, and I will remain a
Republican.
