A computer geek I know has been able to convert the flash-based NBC report to MPEG using a Mac with OS X. Here's how (not that I understand any of this) --
1. Install Perian
2. Use MPEG Stream Clip to open file and export as an MPEG4.

Semp, I don't think the "But...we'll see" should be edited off! Because? It demonstrates that there is no come-back zinger line to the report!! It's the equivalent of a child having been read the riot act, and responding with, "Oh yeah? Well...nyeaah!" Yep, a real powerful argument there for your side, pal. Ha ha!

Well, I've been trying to re-encode this video all day so that the sound would be aligned. The video seems to encode fine and the sound is fine on my computer, but after youtube converts it, the sound gets off again.
Any ideas how to fix this? I've tried using several different encoders. I don't understand why the video would be fine until uploaded to youtube. I've mostly been re-encoding the video to flash/.flv, is there a different format that should keep the sound on track after youtube converts?

Youtube Conversion Problem
I'm getting a, "Failed (unable to convert video file) " error after uploading the .flv at youtube. I'm trying some different converters to see if it will make a difference.

A kind soul provided me with the file :D but it doesn't want to launch in many programs, not even VLC. However, I was able to play it using Miro (which is a terrific player, btw, with tons of content -- you must check out the TED talks there!).
FWIW, as far as converting the file, we tried iSquint, but to no avail.

Well, even the original Flash video
has audio and video sync issues then, as that video from BigUpload.com was out of sync, in which case we're out of luck. Unless that one was not the original as downloaded from the NBC page.
I hate that they make it so darned impossible to download videos on some of these sites.

It encodes to different formats fine, but when youtube encodes it after uploading, it always seems to fail at youtube.
Maybe there is some kind of new copy protection code where youtube reads it, and then refuses to encode at youtube?

I would encourage all Paulians to contact the station and thank the reporter for his unbiased story. This puts us in a positive light as well.
