NY Times on Ron Paul: It’s Not a Campaign, It’s a Mission
By ALEX WILLIAMS | Published: May 25, 2008
A YEAR ago, Leon Lim, a 35-year-old doctoral student in Sanskrit from Dayton, Ohio, decided with his wife, Ranjani Powers, a yoga instructor, to head off to Bali, or India, or anywhere, really, just “somewhere very far away” — from the Iraq war, the Patriot Act and the tanking dollar, Mr. Lim said.
“We were just so disillusioned with the way everything was going,” explained the shaven-headed Mr. Lim, who wore a gold hoop earring in each ear. The couple had supported Ralph Nader in 2000, Ms. Powers said, but had since “given up on America.”
But they found an unlikely reason to stay: Ron Paul, the libertarian Republican congressman from Texas who continues to run for president, even months after Senator John McCain has essentially sewn up the nomination.

I thought it was a subtle hit piece
marginalizing RP supporters into ,gold hoop earring wearing, Nader supporting, shaggy beard cuchetta (sp?)rock festival freaks, with hand knit rasta caps.
Maybe I missed something?

Do this!
Can it work? Yes it can! It Has!
In 2006, the sale of port management, in six major U.S. seaports, to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was crushed by We the People who made our voice heard and stopped the proposed sale in the name of national security.
In 2007, The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act never even got to a vote after We the People put our foot down and told our elected officials we demand enforcement of our borders before allowing amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. (By the way, the phone system was shut down because they had sooooo many calls.

Everyone
that wants peace and freedom needs to vote for Ron Paul.

ABSOLUTELY ROBEN HOOD
As we look back from the year 2054, the 200th anniversary of the
republican party birth in Ripon, Wisconsin, our grandchildren can
read about the historic revolt of Ron Paul republicans who tried
to upstage the McCain oil price fixers and Rovian neo-fascists,
were set back, but then broke from the party to join Bob Barr
and the Libertarian/Republicans or to launch an independent
candidacy. We cannot get back to the Lincoln to Goldwater Party
or forward to this time without sacking Bush/McCain and chopping
off the Saudi American linkage. Bush/McCains cannot be saved
but our new republican baby will grow up strong!

Yes, there are many ways -
Yes, there are many ways - big and small - to help support Ron Paul. I'm encouraged when I read comments from people in other countries who want to help.
Another way that most folks have heard about are the Ron Paul Meetup Groups. I understand that there are RP Meetup Groups in 26 different countries. This is exciting to me!
Folks - no matter where you live, if there isn't a RP Meetup Group close to you, you can START YOUR OWN! Below is the site address to get more information about it:
http://www.ronpaul.meetup.com
Not only can the groups be united for a common cause, but they can be interesting and fun too.
And I look forward to reading the comments from more "visitors".

Go Ron Paul!!! Take ideas or support even if we disagree.
"It may well be that government was necessary and is still necessary for all the advantages which you attribute to it," says the man who has mastered the Christian theory of life. "I only know that on the one hand, government is no longer necessary for ME, and on the other hand, I can no longer carry out the measures that are necessary to the existence of a government. Settle for yourselves what you need for your life. I cannot prove the need or the harm of governments in general. I know only what I need and do not need, what I can do and what I cannot. I know that I do not need to divide myself off from other nations, and therefore I cannot admit that I belong exclusively to any state or nation, or that I owe allegiance to any government. I know that I do not need all the government institutions organized within the state, and therefore I cannot deprive people who need my labor to give it in the form of taxes to institutions which I do not need, which for all I know may be pernicious. I know that I have no need of the administration or of courts of justice founded upon force, and therefore I can take no part in either. I know that I do not need to attack and slaughter other nations or to defend myself from them with arms, and therefore I can take no part in wars or preparations for wars. It may well be that there are people who cannot help regarding all this as necessary and indispensable. I cannot dispute the question with them, I can only speak for myself; but I can say with absolute certainty that I do not need it, and that I cannot do it. And I do not need this and I cannot do it, not because such is my own, my personal will, but because such is the will of him who sent me into life, and gave me an indubitable law for my conduct through life."

Go
Go Ron Paul
Liberty is our campaigns gift to the world it is our manifest destiny.
Freedom is a movement who's time has come. Our campaign will lead world wide freedom.
What really matters is...
(sorry Rick... nice picture, though)
...is that my neighbors just came by excitedly asking "Did you see the NY Times article on Ron Paul?"
Maybe it was the Ron Paul lawn sign or the Ron Paul T-shirt I was wearing at the time or the Ron Paul flag the now flies in place of the stars and stripes but somehow everyone in the neighborhood knows I'm a Ron Paul supporter.
I told her no and she promised to get me her copy.
This is good news folks. Yes, it tells us what the NY Times thinks about us (Style section?) We've been considered a 'fad' since the campaign started. Who cares what they think?? The word is out and spreading like wildfire. It can't be contained. We have several more months to spread across the country and consume all we touch.
I'll be wearing my RP shirt tomorrow at the parade, too So will my wife and daughter. So will me son, who is marching in the parade....
It doesn't take much to 'influence people' as I call it. Just put the name out there and stand back! Talk to the people who approach you with questions but, personally, I don't force my opinions on anyone. Street corner debates don't speak well of the cause. You won't convert people willing to fight with you but there are millions of other not-so-inclined people willing to listen. Those are our the target audience!
Take it to the streets and happy memorial day!
I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...
UPDATE... Just back from the parade.
I'd call it a success. My son decide not to march so we were four abreast with Ron Paul Revolution shirts on. Got many looks from the crowd and the folks on parade! Spoke to the ladies at the Methodist church about Dr. Paul after they asked me if he was still on the ballot.
These are 60+ year olds and even they're disgusted with the status quo enough to ask!
Get out there and influence people! Plant your seeds and watch them grow!
I may not know the truth, but I know when I'm being lied to...
Well put

PS. I is why it's in the Style section.
Hey Rick.
Hey Rick. RonPaulTShirts.com, I take it? I took the profile photograph of Ron Paul. David Hatchard turned it into a sketch, and it ended up on your poster. Small world. :)
NY Times "Style" piece
My first impression of this article was, hey, it's in the New York Times and it's coverage - not bad! My second reaction was: "Why is this in their fashion section - because they talked about beards?" My husband basically said, "What do you want, everything?" And I said that I have high expectations. The NY Times did try to portray Ron Paul supporters as latter-day hippies, I think. And from the events I've attended, I've found that most of the people - young, middle-aged, and older - are, for the most part well groomed. But, so what? What is important is that Ron Paul is still in the race and really doing very well. And those who support the ideas of freedom are not going away.

Consider the fact your
Consider the fact your average American will probably read the "Fashion" section more readily than they would the "Politics" section. Possibly tens of thousands of vapid, self-absorbed, Sex-and-the-City-Obsessed NYT readers are getting their first exposure to Ron Paul. Not a bad thing.
Interesting observation...

Golwater's FREEDOM Movement Gave us NWO REAGAN! Bump~
This is the real threat to the present and maybe final revolution. IF Goldwater's Movement gave us Reagan; Could the Ron Paul movement give us another false conservative? The NWO knows how to manipulate and co-opt movements.
"The youthful zeal of the Paul movement “does recall the early Goldwater movement, which was also jam-packed with people dropping out of graduate school, college, maybe even high school, to devote themselves 24/7 to what they called the ‘revolution,’ ” said Rick Perlstein, author of “Before the Storm: Barry Goldwater and the Unmaking of the American Consensus” (Hill and Wang, 2002).
And such movements don’t always stay in the margins forever, he said, adding that the young supporters who stumped for Goldwater’s failed presidential bid helped lay the seeds for the Reagan revolution 16 years later"
The only thing that can prevent it is an strict adherence to our INTEGRITY. We must accept nothing less than pure constitutional adherence from our leaders. We will accept no wishy constitution slow washers. Nor will we accept compromise and dilution.
This is a fight to the end to Resotore the Republic! http://www.dailypaul.com/node/49907

The Revolution looks different to me.
For the most part, we really, really, REALLY hate and distrust all aspects of our system. The Goldwater movement still had hope in the system, it seems to me. We know we are working against the whole system. That, I think, is the difference.
We will not have the power we need to make a difference if we don't become strategic while keeping our tactical strengths. If we spread our forces or fail to go after the best ground for assault we willl dissipate our movement. We'll wear ourselves out. That's the most likely danger, more than being co-opted.
I am noticing a sheeple effect inside the movement, with a difference. People are still looking for a leader. Here's Ron Paul. Here's Chuck Baldwin. Here's Bob Barr! We're focused on candidates when their impact will be limited at the start in any case.
The critical difference between sheeple and us is that we more closely resemble a herd of feral cats that have trouble focusing on one direction or applying strategy, but we're tactically impressive. The sheeple go where they are told, but they all want to go in the same direction. We scatter in different directions, but tend not to pull back into a cohesive flock.
Ron Paul has it right, the right mix of herd instinct and feral drive, without an all or nothing focus on leaders.
We're lone hunters, for the most part, who need to learn about being both cat-like and able to stay focused as a group as well. It's a tall order, but necessary.
Liberty Is Security! "We are lone hunters" "a herd of feral cats
I like this analysis and agree with you. Would you care to post your comment on the forum for it? http://www.dailypaul.com/node/50144

The neocons invaded the US
The neocons invaded the US govt during the 6 day war when they were scared because israel was having its butt kicked. They took over the most important positions to get arms and other weapons sent to israel.
The USA was effectively lost after that happened and we have been blackmailed by these people ever since. It had nothing to do with Reagan, BUT Reagan DID become the first president to make most of his cabinet these same neocons, and later bill clinton basically had his entire staff of israel firsters.

Okay, it's a shameless plug, but I am so amazed at how often I end up seeing that profile in the sketch form all over the place. :)

Not to dis you youngsters but...
People in the crowd, many under 30, if not 25, rose to their feet and thundered in applause, even if they looked as if they had stumbled into a Republican rally on their way to the Coachella rock festival. In many cases, hair was aggressive, clothing artfully tattered. Beards seemed to have a mind of their own.
We're not all under 30...I know many RP supporters who are over 40! I know it's hard to believe...and I really don't think the majority of the crowd was as dishelveled as this reporter indicates. Too "hippy-ish" sounding. I wasn't there but I have seen many rally videos and I see quite a cross section of folks, young, middle, older, families...that's what's so inspiring about the message - it s ageless as well as timeless.
This is the message of the Beatles, the Dylans of the world,”
And it's the older crowd who know this message...
Good article as a whiole though.
Thanks for posting.
