No really it was a project of fun. One of many different things my dad did before he died. We have a tournament every year shooting it for fun.

It shoots a 12 pound steel ball big around as a coke can about 4 miles if you want it to.. We only shoot it a couple hundred yards at max usually and only where it is very remote and hills all around to stop the projectiles.

I can put a ball within about 3- 4 feet of center target.

We shoot it about 130 times during the tournament because of each team getting two shots at three targets. I'd say about 60% hit the targets.

Mother and Fathers side. Acutally I have four that fought in the Revolutionary war. Not sure who all of them were. I'll have to ask my mom. I know Samuel Pottinger and Hendrick Banta for sure. Sadly not all of them are. Kentucky is a Democrat strong hold. It was pulling teeth to get my mom to register Repub. But the county I am from was one that had the most votes for RP in the primary. Much sign waving and door to door helped. =]

You mean anti-personnel? They used grapeshot. Several dozen balls around .12 gauge or larger in diameter.

That created shrapnel also back then people used to walk in rows toward each other. Ever seen any civil war movie or Mel Gibson in the Patriot.

Not that hard to skip a ball at a buch of guys walking right at you.

Not a very conventional weapon by today's standards. We have things like sub machine guns and depleted Uranium tank rounds on lazer triangulated gyropods that can slice through 4 inch thick steel like butter all while traveling at around 45 mph over rough terrain. Gotta love the M1-abrams tank...yeesh.

your new found relative, the really big guys in power have very advanced weapons like scaler, laser, small nuclear weapons as well to do major damage. Yes, we are way beyond the cannon balls of old.
