This is really twisted logic...

A faction of purist libertarians are angry because they perceive Bob Barr to be an impure Republican infiltrator of the Libertarian Party. So now your extending the olive branch to the Libertarians to JOIN the Republicans!!!??? WTF??? Hahaha the whole reason they're pissed is because they feel they've got a non-purist Libertarian as they're presidential nominee. I've got news for you, a lot of these people didn't feel Ron Paul was pure enough back in 88' either, they didn't think Aarron Russo, creator of Freedom to Fascism was pure enough in 04' and railroaded his attempt to run for party nomination. They would rather have somebody with the credentials, charisma, and media savviness of unsuccessfully running for town dogcatcher as a Libertarian run on the presidential ticket as an uber-libertarian-anarcho-capitalist, than have somebody who is 90% libertarian give them a real shot at winning the presidency or other elected office for that matter. Its all or nothing with these folks buddy and there is no way they are going to bolt for the Republican Party (by the way, Goldwater was impure to them also!). The only thing they are going to do for sure is bitch a lot for the next 8 months or so and then go crawl into a little hole and hibernate until the next convention. I attended the convention and the only thing I could gather from Mary Ruwart at the debate was that I should vote for her because she was a woman and all the Hillary supporters would somehow miracuously have a conversion to libertarianism when Obama won the convention and they felt disenfranchised. Hahaha thats almost as good as this one!

Barr vs. Paul

I think you are incorrect in comparing Bob Barr's 50% support of liberty with Ron Paul's 99.9% support of liberty. Yes, a FEW questions were raised back in 1988 regarding Ron Paul's suitability as the Libertarian Party nominee, BEFORE the convention, but after he addressed the few concerns regarding his steadfast support of freedom across the board, those concerns all but completely died (with the relatively minor exception of the abortion issue, which has always split even the most purist Libertarians). This is in obvious contrast to Bob Barr, who differs with Libertarian principles in a number of significant areas, and NOT just in minor details or small degree.

Everyone has to draw their line somewhere, but I cannot help but feel that Barr's nomination was a shameful sellout by the LP, and will hurt and maybe kill them down the line.

That is the right spirit

There are some people here that are taking it personal about their candidates. It is not about the party but what the person is about and what they will do in office, as well as their track record. We already have our man and anyone is more than welcome to join forces if they like what he believes in. The whole party thing was just one more tool of the neocons to divide and control and it has been very successful. All of the parties have been infiltrated with corrupt politicians that can be bought or controlled.

It doesn't matter what party

you belong to if your are awake. All the parties need to turn back to the Constitution if we are active and committed we will see results. We could make it a game by 2012 which party will most resemble Dr. Paul's platform. Hee, hee

Nice

I like it.

LP of today = GOP of tomorow

if we don't do something now. From what I've heard, if Barr is that bad, and he might be, the LP is starting to do what the Republicrats have done for centuries, sellout on principles to get exposure and votes. While I admire the idea of taking back the GOP I see it as at least as infeasible as the LP making it big without selling out. This idea of selling out is like a cancer and I believe that with the GOP it is terminal. After Bush and now McCain there will be little of anything even remotely conservative left in the GOP and confidence in it will be at an all time low. We've seen the treatment we've gotten in the GOP throughout this campaign from the highest levels of the party to the lowest where new participants have been scorned and turned away, the Republicans have doomed themselves. I think that it would be easier to prevent the LP from becoming like the GOP than trying to force the monolithic GOP back into a semblance of principle. In this I feel we should continue to work at taking back both parties so that hopefully one will work, but as I've said I feel we have a better shot of changing the LP which has only been corrupt for about 30 years compared to the GOP's century long trail of evil. If Ron, and even Barr, raise the profile of the LP then it is in our interests to make sure that an evil party doesn't benefit from the work of a good man, Ron, and the best way to do that is to keep the party from straying too far. In summary it's easier to correct the LP and continue to work in it for more exposure than it is to try to change the giant, corrupt, and evil GOP.

I'm going to vote for Chuck Baldwin!

Unless Ron Paul suggests otherwise. We need to envigorate the ideas of non-interventionism, getting rid of the Federal Reserve and returning the constitution to the law of the land!

From my understanding the Constitutional Party will probably be on the ballot in at least 40 states. If we can win just one, a message will be sent!

And we will grow from there!

What Republican are you going to vote for?

Dr. Paul will not be running the general election. He will not even file as a write-in candidate, so any write in will not be counted.

Will you be voting for McCain?

And, why if you think Barr's nomination compromises Libertarian Party principles, do you not think that McCain's nomination doesn't compromise Republican principles?

They both compromise their

They both compromise their parties principles and hence the reason the Revolution isn't going to be voting for either of those douche bags. Ron Paul via write in if possible and if not, Baldwin. The Revolution STILL has not heard back from Barr about those 20+ questions given to him via fax/email/snailmail/blog postings and I also called the campaign to make sure to look for the fax. If he chooses to ignore the questions it will be to his own detriment. If he chooses to answer in the negative to the questions, it will be to his own detriment. Why? Because all of the questions are predicated on OBEYING THE CONSTITUTION.

For your reference:
1.Will you put a stop to the Security and Prosperity Partnership (or whatever name it's going by these days)?

2.Will you pull the U.S. troops out of ALL nations around the globe and bring them home to better provide for defense of this nation?

3.Will you put a stop to the NAFTA Super Highway?

4.Will you abolish the Federal Reserve?

5.Will you promote a foreign policy of NON-INTERVENTIONISM?, i.e. NO more foreign aid to nations of any sort for any reason. This means money/weapons/training of their military forces on our soil like School of Americas in Ft.Benning, Ga.

6.Will you prosecute employers to the fullest extent of the law that employ illegal aliens?

7.Will you cut off ALL aid to ALL illegal aliens in this country? i.e. NO more social security, welfare, college grants for their children, etc.

8.Will you end birth right citizenship for children born to illegal immigrants in this country?

9.Would you work to restore a debt free, interest free monetary system that is backed by some form of a standard that will put tight restrictions on how much the government can spend?

10. Will you work to end the Income Tax and replace it with NOTHING?

11.Will you work to get the US out of free trade deals such as NAFTA/CAFTA/GATT etc?

12.Will you work to disband the Dept. of Education and actively promote homeschooling as a viable option?

13.Will you oppose any and all legislation designed to subsidize special interests such as HMO's?

14. Will you work to ban forced vaccinations/immunizations?

15.Will you work to protect the 2nd amendment for private citizens of this country, and not just for milita members?

16.Will you stop ALL participation in the UN/WTO/IMF/WorldBank?

17.Will you put a stop to eminent domain abuse in the US?

18. Will you relegate the issue of ALL drug legality (not just marijuana) to the States as it should be according to our Constitution?

19. Will you relegate the issue of abortion to the States and support Ron Paul's Sanctity of Life Act?

20.Will you support the freedom of choice for both patient and doctor and let the free market provide for a better healthcare system here in the US?

21.Will you promote an independent investigation of 9/11 and if government officials are found guilty of crimes, prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law?

22. Will you work towards a phasing out of Social Security, Welfare, Minimum Wage laws?

23. Will you work to repeal the Patriot Act in its entirety?

Thank you NeoConned

I saw your post on: http://blog.bobbarr2008.com/2008/05/27/nomination-media-wrap...

But I do agree with this person's response:

"JMann Says:

May 28th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
The most ridiculous thing about the radical Paulistas is that they don’t understand that the President doesn’t have much power and if they want to return to the original intent of the US Constitution the POTUS will have even less power.

There is no way that a President can pass any of the objectives above so to run on them, most of which are supported by less than 5% of the population, would doom the Barr campaign.

I say stick with more liberty and less government and maybe in 100 years and 25 libertarian thinking presidents in a row you may be able to get rid of the IRS and replace it with nothing.

I’ve never seen a group of people so ignorant to US politics as the radical Paulistas."

This is how the RP Revolution looks to the general public. I agree with the RP message. However, there needs to be a realistic approach to achieving them. Thinking that 50 different government programs are gonna be ABOLISHED by the snap of a finger is absurd. I agree that they should be abolished. But like the comment quoted above, it will take a 100 years.

I realize a point that you made earlier on a different post about the US facing an economic crises where it has to be radical and extreme fast. Unfortunately, an economic collapse will be the only thing that will move the RP Revolution forward. It’s related to the cliché, "Crisis precipitates change!" People won't wake up until an economic Armageddon occurs.

For now, Bob Barr style pragmatism is the only thing the US can realistically hope for right now.

Great questions!!

Great questions!!

I don't care about the party just the principle

Hey. I voted Libertarian in the last 3 elections and will probably vote Constitution Party this election. I'm also a Republican Party precinct chair and heading for the Texas GOP convention as a delegate to support the Revolution. When the Republicans come back to their roots, I will enthusiastically support their Presidential Candidate with my vote. The difference between McCain and Baldwin is night and day. When the Republican is close philosophically to the Libertarian or Constitution Party candidate, I will vote Republican. McCain is awful. Barr is decent, but Baldwin is best.

So0 your a Libertarian party

So0 your a Libertarian party member who is a Republican party precinct chair and a delegate...mmm...thats interesting. Scarey really --you don't represent the voters in your precinct, you only represent yourself

woooah now hold it moonslippers. Ron Paul was the LP nominee

Its also important to say that many libertarians are divided between the LP and the Republican party.
I dont understand wht youre trying to say here. That hes a hypocrite? because hes a Libertarian Republican?

I know the man is free to do

I know the man is free to do what he wants with his vote. I just dont understand all this switching around all the parties....I know "the three" suck but I am new to politics and see this as flip-floppy as McCain. Whats up with not sticking to the party your registered with. I am not voting if I can't vote for my man. Is there something wrong with that seeing how our vote is only representative of the popular vote anyway? I understand the Libertarian Republican mix of ideologies but it seems like someones sitting on the fence while being expected to represent one side fully....This might be the very reason the Republican party has rejected Pauls supporters so completely, they question the loyalty to the party and view them as simply Libertarians trying to put "their" man in office.....Who will Ron Paul vote for is all I want to know....

I voted for Browne in two elections. I liked him--I thought he lacked that elusive "leadership quality"--he always reminded me of Fred Rogers on Mister Roger's Neighborhood.

But he wasn't an oily ex-GOP opportunist who signed the Patriot Act. I would never vote for Barr/Root (don't like his V.P. choice, either).

Mary Ruwart was also my favorite in the LP field. If it is true

that Bob Barr has undergone a genuine ethical conversion and now wants to withdraw his support of the Patriot Act (just to pick one example), then I am very glad to hear that. I am very glad that he now recognizes the egregious assault on liberty represented by that law; a law that he supported. Unfortunately, once a law is passed it is so much more difficult to get rid of it. I still back Dr. Paul, whose wisdom and ethical standards foresaw the evil in the Patriot Act and voted against it. That's why votes are recorded; so we can look back and "audit" (for lack of a better term) the performances of our representatives. I have backed the libertarian party for over 30 years, but I have reservations regarding Rep. Barr. It is not "just" his voting for the Patriot Act. People here can examine his voting record and make their own judgement. I hope that Bob Barr is very successful in helping to present the message of liberty to people and to awaken that concept in the minds of our fellow citizens. I hope that he is successful in drawing away as many votes as possible from Obama and McCain. I am sticking with Dr. Paul.

I liked Ruwart over Barr...

I liked Ruwart over Barr... but c'mon, he's not as bad as everyone is making him out to be. I support Ron Paul, and right now he's my candidate and he has my vote.

But I don't know how we can be welcoming libertarians in to the GOP when we're being marginalized in the party, and when libertarians were the ones to leave the GOP.

My GOD! The Libertarians elected someone who actually has a chance for once! ABANDON SHIP!!! LET'S SWIM OVER TO THAT OTHER BURNING, SINKING SHIP CALLED THE GOP!!

Let's get our house in order.

thank you

you are a voice of reason! I was at the convention and would have supported any of the candidates who won including Ruwart but Barr was my pick for that exact reason, he's got a chance!
