OK Guys, we know what happened in the Libertarian Convention, what are we going to do?

0 votes

Bob Barr has won the Libertarian Party's Presidential nomination today. I've been reading a mixed message people who are going to support Barr and others who won't. And I think we need to either take a dump or go blind. We can't do both. Call me crazy all you want but I think we need to do something radical as in drafting Ron Paul for President. Please, Dr. Paul needs to know that Barr is the LP nominee! If we're going to do something like draft Paul for Pres, we need to do so as soon as possible! Hopefully after the Idaho Primary on Tuesday. We need to let the campaign know about what's happening. I know that Dr. Paul has turned down the chance of running as an independent or 3rd party candidate but did he ever say anything about being drafted for Pres? I'm just wondering. Unfortunately, there's not much us ex-pats living abroad can do. If the campaign informs the good Doc what's happening, he might reconsider it.

THE LIBERTARIAN PARTY

As a bonafide veteran of the Ron Paul Revolution, and new member of the Libertarian Party, I welcome those who would join with us and extend the hand of friendship across party lines for common goals. The French and the Americans may not have been best of friends, but they fought the British for common goals. We Libertarians love Ron Paul (you saw some of us vote for him) as much as you do. If you are interested in working together, then we extend our hand in friendship to you.

Let go of the fear of the past. For the sake of the future, redouble your efforts with us, and our mutual friendship will give us the victory we can believe in in the fall. If you choose to reject us, I will not be saddened, rather I will continue my search to find those who are willing to give all who truly love Liberty, the chance to reap what seeds we plan to sow.

Sacrifice everything, give up nothing. Grasp our hands in friendship, and together we can give the establishment the punishing they richly deserve for their gross violations of our Natural Rights... and our Constitution.

Iamvoting4RonPaul: Let me

Iamvoting4RonPaul: Let me make one thing clear. I’m not living in Chile by convenience. I didn’t choose to leave the U.S. I was 11 when I left with my family in ’96 and had to leave everything I had: my friends, my childhood, my country, my beautiful state of Florida and my beautiful city of Tampa. I’ve never ever been on top of the world. I, like most other people, can say I know what life’s about and I’m only 23. My mother got sick in ’96 by getting paranoia schizophrenia and we couldn’t (and still can’t) find a cure for her sickness. I’m a fighter. Do you want to know what keeps me going every day? The Revolution. I’m a college student, entering into my 2nd year (after 1 year in which I had a bad case of depression and had to see a shrink), I’m literally stuck. How do I maintain my mother and my family? Nobody’s business. But most of the money we get is for her and her sickness. I don’t wish this on anyone. I pray for all of you who are able to spread the message every day of your lives. If I had finished college, I’d be there with you guys 100%. I voted for Dr. Paul in the FL primary as well as my dad. If I do well in my job (which doesn’t pay well), and my mother shows signs of improvement, I’ll save every cent to try to make it. I’m very proud of what you’ve been doing but you should understand that some of us want to be there in a bad way but have personal problems or economic problems (both cases applied to me). I’ve proposed several ideas like the idea of a worldwide freedom march before. I pray for you, for the other Revolutionaries and especially Americans (who haven’t voted for Dr. Paul) to wake up and smell the coffee for once and for all. Peace to all and thanks for what you’ve done.

I wouldn't blame anyone for

I wouldn't blame anyone for leaving the US anyway.

I was just talking to a friend and his wife the other day, and his wife was saying "I don't like it here anymore".

I asked "You mean America?" And his wife said "yes".

They're both contemplating going to Costa Rica, where he has family.

Ron Paul "Sign Wave Across the USA" -- November 5th!

Yeah I'm Ron Paul till convention then see after that

We watch the other guys so we know everything they say. Look for the lies and deception. we want the most honest of them. I don't think the write in vote will do anything myself. But it might be what we have to do. We do not have to decide this so fast. Keep working on the Republican part keep an eye out for any kincks in the armor. I say we hold course till we see them blink.

Continue to work to get Ron

Continue to work to get Ron Paul nominated. At the same time continue to push freedom candidates in state, local and congressional GOP primaries. Also, parallelly, contribute what we can to the libertarian and constitutionalist parties.

But when the general election comes along, please, for the love of all that is decent, cast your vote for the candidate who is the least anti freedom on your ballot. Even if that is the only positive you can find to say about him. Anything else, like vandalizing Diebold machines with sharpie markers, only serves to strengthen the establishment view of us as a bunch of unorganized firebrands incapable of ever posing a united challenge to their hegemony.

Remember, there is no better way to get the message across to vote whoring GOP old boys, than showing them a large, untapped pool of support available if they would only start nominating more reasonable candidates and championing less offensive legislation.

splitting the revolution vote

Somehow we gotta pull it together or we will make no impact. The revolution vote is going to be split 3 ways otherwise and that will have no impact.

having said that, I can't in good conscience vote for Barr. His record sucks and if I was going to forgive people for their recent votes, why not vote for any of the mainstream people? I mean as far as the war and civil liberties- Obama has a better record than Barr....

I think an endorsement from Dr.Paul might help pull us behind a candidate if he truly isn't running after the primary season.

Have patience.

Let's enjoy this time with Dr. Paul. Go to the gathering continue to receive and spread Dr. Paul's message. At the St. Paul convention there is going to be a walk and rally. Dr. Paul is going to announce plans on how we can continue our efforts and stick together. Let's plan and continue our focus on Dr. Paul. When November comes we will know more but now I continue to focus on Paul. Peace.

Prepare & Share the Message of Freedom through Positive-Peaceful-Activism.

Don't use the ex-pat excuse for not doing something.

That's BS.

I flew to the US in January to be a precinct captain and canvass my parents' neighborhood. I passed out thousands of slim jims and DVDs at traffic intersections and placed an ad in the local newspaper the week before the CA primary. Drove hundreds of miles for mass sign waving events and maxed out plus gave to various other groups.

I don't say these things to brag or to elicit sympathy (I am a patriot and it's my duty). I say them to wake up the expats who lurk here. I am now planning my second trip to the US to go to St. Paul. The flight alone will cost $3000 and I have no idea where I will be sleeping.

There are few who live as far from the US as I do and if I can get there, so can you. Get to the convention and show your support if nothing else.

Stand and be counted!

Ron Paul "Sign Wave Across the USA" -- November 5th!

Ron Paul

As of today, I have officially given up on the libertarian party and I am now a Ron Paul Republican. I was going to vote Libertarian in the general but I've changed my mind.

I support the Ron Paul

I support the Ron Paul Revolution and reject both the Libertarian and Republican parties. If the GOP turns over a new leaf in the next four months, I might consider relenting.

How the choices stack up

Advancing a free society is our common goal.

Ron Paul remains far and away the most popular candidate for the freedom movement. But even Ron admits, despite great efforts to sway delegates our way, that he won't win and further, he doesn't even expect to get a speaking role at the GOP convention. He has ruled out a third party or independent run so his supporters should accept that and stop wasting time encouraging him to do so. If we are Ron Paul supporters we should do as he requests - keep working to advance the cause - but don't expect him to be our standard bearer. So how to advance the cause with respect to this presidential election?

1. Some want to write in Ron Paul - those who are clear they will vote for no one other than Ron. This may make a small statement but will lead nowhere.

2. Vote Baldwin or Barr. Both have their baggage. Lots of Ron Paul supporters and libertarians won't accept the Constitution Party's religious nature. Lots of Ron Paul voters and libertarians won't accept Barr as he is seen as an opportunistic carpetbagger lacking libertarian principle. Even with Ron out of the race, these two will just split the vote of those Ron Paul voters who would even be willing to consider voting for someone other than Ron Paul. Nor are they likely to bring in many new voters to the movement beyond what Ron Paul has already done. Neither will make a meaningful impact.

3. Vote McHillama. Yeah, right. Maybe a handful of Ron Paul voters would consider voting for Obama.

4. Abstain from voting. Although maybe the honorable thing to do when faced with nothing but bad choices it amounts to giving up the fight.

These are the only choices I see - and I don't like any of them. Beyond this election the only hope is to keep slogging away in the Republican Party. By 2012, if the country hasn't completely fallen apart by then, we'll see if we're making enough headway within the Republican Party to really focus public attention in a positive way to our freedom message. But if the entrenched old boy network in the GOP continues to effectively deny our efforts to manifest the Ron Paul Revolution it will probably be too late for political solutions.

marlow

marlow

Here's the facts, Marlow, I'm agreeing with you.

I don't know much about caucus states, but I'm pretty sure that if we are the majority (PCP,PCO,Caucus Delegates) then we vote for the people who are officers at the local and state level. The PCP/PCO and officers vote for the people who are nominated to chair and run all the conventions. The GOP rank and file no longer have the power to obstruct.

The GOP gambit is the only working game in town. Even then, the rich will run their candidates -- with or without us -- but we'll control the rank and file.

Don't reject the NONE OF THE ABOVE angle. If enough people did this, we'd kill the party system by forcing the legislation to cancel elections of unsupported people. These two things -- GOP takeover and NOTA -- go hand in hand anytime we don't have our people in charge.

I don't think we have the strength through independents and unaffiliates. If the numbers were there, I'd be singing a different tune.

Here's What I'm Going to Do

I've got four choices, none of them good, but some of them are very interesting to me:

1. I'm a resident of Oregon and I can write in Ron Paul on my general election ballot and have the write-in counted -- but unless those numbers are high enough to warrant a name check by the elections division, Ron Paul's name will never see the light of day. But McCain won't get my vote. That will make me happy.

2. I can couple this strategy above with a concerted NONE OF THE ABOVE campaign and maybe pull in many other people who can't stand their choices but won't agree with me enough to vote for Ron Paul. Why does this NONE OF THE ABOVE option seem so unattractive to people? It's actually a positive statement. If enough of us do this, the powers that be are increasingly disenfranchised as we move forward with infiltrating the party structure and seek changes in legislation to make NOTA a valid option.

3. I can vote for Bob Barr. I have looked at the numbers of independent voters in my state. The statistics are, literally, laughable.

4. I can vote for Chuck Baldwin. I have looked at the numbers of independent voters in my state. The statistics are, literally, laughable.

P.S. Chuck and Bob are splitting the revolutionary vote.

Vote for the guy who is on the ballot and have those numbers show up in MSM reports (yeah, right . . . like that will be seen anywhere as anything more than a footnote).

My .02 on your four

My .02 on your four choices:

1 . Write in = Protest vote that is thrown away. You'd do Dr. Paul more good if you bought a copy of his book that day, and stayed home.

2. 'None of the Above' campaign is an idea for next year. I like it. I think it should be a ballot box option officially, along with a National Clean Elections Act. Of course all this would have zero impact this year.

3. Bob Barr signed the Patriot Act, so if you vote for him, you are telling the world that you approve of politicians who signed the Patriot Act.

4. Chuck Baldwin is unlikely to get elected, but he's ideologically pure, unlike all the other non-Ron Paul candidates. If his party got a sizeable percentage of the votes, it would qualify for federal matching funds, which would strengthen it in the future.

I'm choosing choice #4.

here's what I'm going to

here's what I'm going to do:

Continue supporting Ron Paul and the message. Hopefully something will happen and we'll get Ron the nomination. But I'm convinced he will not run 3rd party... and really, that's ok... because I'm fine with voting for Bob Barr... He's a good plan B, and WAY better than McCain and Obama/Hillary.

I know his record isn't as good as Ron's, but I believe he's telling the truth... and I've heard good arguments for why he voted the way he did in the past. Plus, his efforts in working against the things he once supported prove to me that he is sincere. I wouldn't call myself a Barr supporter... however, he is another voice for the message, and he'll be on the ballot, so I don't mind giving him my meaningless vote.

Even if the allegations that Barr is in fact a neocon were true, it wouldn't matter... he's not likely to win, so we wouldn't need to worry...

those of us who aren't full libertarians can thus use Barr to our Republican advantage. If we throw our support behind him as a protest vote, it'll be a good weapon/threat to use in getting our way in the party. And if Barr does win, I'm sure he'll be better for the movement/opening up the party system to others, etc.

I know there's Chuck Baldwin, but he's a little too conspiracy theory/something of a nobody for me... Bob Barr at least as recognition... I've already seen reports on him winning the nomination and the Libertarian Convention on CNN. I think we all know that nobody else (except for Ron) would have gotten that.

Ron can't run.... he'd be thrown out of the party. We need him in Congress, an we need him in his position where people will listen... maybe (I hope) he'll run in 2012.

I think Barr could get 5 million votes. And, even though I'm not keen on him, if Root is serious with his claims to support from 12 million poker players and 20 million small business owners, then that with the disgruntled Republicans/Conservatives and us, will be a nice audience for the message, and all on a national stage. I can see Barr being in the debates and winning as much as 20%.

Won't Get Fooled Again

This saying ring a bell? Can't believe people are still believing these corrupt politicians with totally conflicting records and backgrounds and empty promises. Say one thing, do another.

Stop being so gullible. Why not believe Obomba with his empty rhetoric and promise of change, then?

A vote for Barr and Root is a LIE and a vote for the enemy.

Vote your conscience. Vote Ron Paul.

why vote for neocon bob

why vote for neocon bob barr.. who wanted the war on drugs, who wanted to go into iraq... why not chuck baldwin??? baldwin is a ron paul jr.!

as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD

Hey McCain-----┌П┐(◣_◢)┌П┐

Barr is a neo con dead end

Barr is a neo con dead end purposefully created to stop you from taking back the GOP. Keep your eyes on the prize son. We'll get freedom and liberty back to this country one county at a time ;)

ha ha neoconned

So Barr joined the LP 2 years ago because he knew ahead of time that Ron Paul would catch fire and try to take over the Republican Party. you are paranoid my friend

Vote for Chuck Baldwin,

Vote for Chuck Baldwin, unless Ron Paul is on a ticket in the Fall.

Barr is unacceptable.

Why, Kevin,

you're starting to sound like a paid shill for Chuck Baldwin! Not that I don't completely loathe Barr and Chuck seems to have some principles, but this is a little too much pushing for another candidate on our man RON PAUL's forum...

Don't be negative!!!

Kevin Tuma is not a paid shill for the CP. He isn't even getting paid. How pathetic.

Kevin is an ice water peddler.

Blakmira give Kevin a Break.. I think he means well....

Baldwin my be the only option left if RP doesn't run. I think we must bring forth those people who are principled.

But.... Blakmira ROCKS!

Bob Barr is siiii hayyyy heyyyy

"it is good for the establishment to adopt liberty ideology, but it is not good for those who have already adopted liberty to fall to the feet of the establishment." ~ Annica2

I agree. If neither Baldwin

I agree. If neither Baldwin nor Paul are on my ballot (which I guess they won't be) then I will write in ANYONE else..but the diebold system seems to click a mark if you leave the ticket blank....did in my last local election, so I do not know. We need to take over the GOP, elect senators and congressmen all we can during the next 4 years..THEN find the right candidate. It probably all is moot, however..an armed revolution is the most likely scenario unless we can fill up congress with the right people. I will not let this country go down without a fight, and I HOPE and PRAY the fight does not have to be violent. We NEED to be teaching our children and grandchildren...

Sharpie markers make well

Sharpie markers make well for a write in of ron paul ;)

We're Going To Celebrate, That's What!!

One more hijacked party out of the way. Clear the decks!!
