Support for handgun ban grows

Quebec City–Two big-city mayors have gotten behind Mayor David Miller's push for a national handgun ban.

Montreal Mayor Gerald Tremblay has sent Miller a letter of support for the ban, and Mayor Peter Kelly of Halifax – who attended the Big City Mayors caucus meeting here yesterday along with Miller and several other Canadian mayors – is also onside.

Miller has launched an online anti-handgun petition on the City of Toronto website and is broadcasting his message on YouTube.

"We've had some drive-by shootings,'' Kelly said in an interview, adding that a "groundswell" of support is growing for Miller's proposed ban. Kelly said the Atlantic mayors conference also recently passed a resolution calling for a ban.

Montreal City Councillor Claude Dauphin said Tremblay sent Miller a letter last week indicating support.

The next step is the USA, they haven't figured that out yet. Martial Law?

I think Canada would have our support, we would be foolish not to give it! But, they're so subtle with their thievery that most of us might miss it.

Buy as many unregistered

guns as you can, and then go out and buy as much ammo as you can. I am talking 10's of thousands of bullets. I will see you on the battlefield when the shit hits the fan.

So they had some drive-by shootings, huh. mmmhmmm.

Guns don't kill people, PEOPLE kill people. When are people going to see that a gun is nothing more then a tool? Sure, let's just *try* and wipe billions of guns of the face of the earth, then people will just start knifing each other.. Manage to actually ban all contraband? People will just start beating each other with blunt objects like ashtrays, hammers, and such. Strangulation with a garden hose anyone? In fact if all we had in this world was our naked bodies, people would just starts choking and beating each other to death.

I don't care what you wipe off the face of this earth, people are going to kill people. I'm astonished that there are that many weak minded and illogical people on this planet breathing my air.

The idea is to

The idea is to asymmetrically disarm people. Not remove guns per se. The ones in power will get to keep their guns. We won’t. We’ll be more malleable that way, as we’ll be willing to give up more and more of our freedoms in exchange for the safety they are the only ones left to provide us.

To discourage this development, the founders left us with three levels of checks on overreaching government power:

1. A constitution and set of laws to make it hard for government to come after and suppress us.
2. A prohibition against anything but sound money, as well as very limited means of taxation, making it unlikely they could afford to go after us, even if they should find a way to bend the laws in their favor. And finally,
3. Even if they should somehow manage to circumvent both above checks, they would meet a citizenry so well armed, they couldn’t suppress us even if they wanted to.

We’re already, even in the most so called gun friendly states, way behind the government as far as armaments go, and need to start taking the second a lot more seriously.

If someone has stated this fact before my apologizes. Now that thats out of the way. When good law abiding citizens hand over their weapons to a government who feels safer. The citizen or the government. I, being of a logical mindset, would sense that the government would feel much safer. The citizen would not. Why? We as citizens know what criminals can and will do. The criminals wont go after the government, oh no. They will go after the citizens for now that they are disarmed they now have free reign. Its a way for the government to put a cap on their citizens and crushing the questioning of their policies and laws.

50% disagree...

And that 50% entails what the government needs to get away with it in our country. And that 50% is a majority that fears handgun toteing citizens. The Government would love to do a lot of nasty things to control the population at will, but in this country they need an excuse and thats where the other 50% come in - People who fear guns.

Their around every corner, and at least one of your neighbors. They strongly believe (and I've heard this before) that 'if you keep yourself out of situations that require a gun, you have no reason to have one' and completley omit one simple fact from their logic and that is simply this - You can not always chose the situations your in.

These people fear guns like the plague, partly because they don't understand it and partly because they would prefer to walk through life thinking they really have that much control over it. Frankly, _they_ scare _me_! What makes people like this believe that there are not sicko's out there that will break into your home, rape your baby while you helplessly watch, and then do you next, is beyond me.

It's a sick world out there full of good people who don't always know who's good and who's evil. Best to be prepared if you ask me. Take our guns away and who's left with them? Government and criminals.. frankly they share the same bed as far as I see it.

We have progressed too far in this whole mess to give up our guns now. A good man gives up his gun today, and he may be a victim tomorrow. It's just too far to turn back now. They should just let it go already.

Do the world a favor today. Find a democrat and sit them down in front of your weapon completley field stripped. Explain to them that it is 100% harmless at this point. Step by step explain what all the pieces do, how they work and how safe it is if you respect it. Constantly remind them that it is nothing more then a tool made of metal and springs and that no idle gun has ever killed anyone. People kill people...

I've done that exact thing for several of my gun fearing friends to date and so far two of them have purchased one, and one other has come to the range to fire mine. Just like everything else people don't understand - they fear it. Educate people and let them fear no more.

refer to the war on drugs to tell you whether the guns will magically disappear after you outlaw them

dont do it canada

Why don't they ban cars first?

Why don't they ban cars first? no car, no driveby, no car accident, no CO2 greenhouse gases

I'm happy to report..............

Larry Pratt of Gun Owners of America was on the Derry Brownfield Show yesterday (5/30/01) he reported that if someone takes your gun you can threaten them who ever it is (i.e. even cops) -directly- with a law suit for making you vunerable to evil and / or crime.

Listen to the show.

We can't own guns in AUS so people stab each other instead.

Baseball bats seem to do the trick as well (funny to have so many in a cricket-loving nation).

Can't own pepper spray or a military/hunting knife either (unless you lie and say it's for camping -- the knife, not the pepper spray).

Pretty much all weapons are illegal. Criminals seem to find weapons though, clever as they are. Bad guys don't obey the laws like the "good" Aussies do.

I had a bat in my trunk with a glove and was told I could be charged with carrying a deadly weapon. I pleaded with the officer that was nuts. Didnt argue cause that would have lead to me being tazed.

Not to mention that he had no right to search me or my car. Reason for being pulled over " slouching".
