Ron Offered Free Private Jet Travel

Neal Rodriguez
I emailed Ron Paul's events coordinator Andrew Michel with the following proposal to offer him a free flight on a private jet to any campaign stop of his choice:
June 7, 2007
Dear Andrew,
I am Neal Rodriguez, with Imperial Jets, out of New York City. We have some private aircraft at our disposal, and I wanted to know if Congressman Ron Paul would be interested in being flown by private jet on our dime. We can arrange private jet travel to a destination on the campaign trail if he finds it appropriate.
We are most supportive of Ron Paul’s stand on limited government; particularly his opposition to FAA User Fees which surprisingly gathered considerable positive feedback and has helped spread the word on Ron Paul’s bid for the presidency on several social search networks: Ron Paul Uncensored
It would be my esteemed pleasure to make his transportation means more convenient.
Best regards,
Neal

airports are cool
airports are a cool place for Dr. Paul.We give him a kindly farewell and a warm welcome. We provide his security by our numbers. We make his comings and goings an event.I believe he can go to sleep (IN FIRST CLASS) with a smile, and be invigorated at his reception....But mostly I think a private jet ruins the MYSTIQUE.

upside/downside
The upside of this offer is obvious: It will be that much harder for MSM to keep ignoring the support flowing to Dr. Paul. A campaign with its own air force, so to speak, has to start showing up on the radar.
Also, if it permissible for the campaign to accept this offer, it would make the candidate's travel planning easier, and scheduling more flexible.
We know we don't have to worry about the candidate being corrupted!
There are negatives, however. Without endorsing any conspiracy theories, it is obvious that smaller aircraft, over the years, have taken more public figures to their doom than commercial flights. Probably that's because they must make so many flights on the small planes. It's no secret that Senator Wellstone had a real phobia about small planes.
Another drawback is that as the campaign becomes successful, the candidate gets surrounded by admirers, helpers, various staff people with aspirations, and a motley assortment of hangers-on and would-be infuence-peddlers.
That may seem humorous with respect to Congressman Paul's hitherto modest campaign---and is not meant to be a reflection on ANY individuals now or soon to be working for him---but it's what does happen when the bandwagon gets rolling. And i really think there's some energy and excitement around Ron Paul---can't you feel it?
So when that happens, you don't want your candidate isolated, cocooned, cut off from direct contact with his rank-and-file supporters, as well as the ordinary citizens who don't yet know or support him. The private jet could be a symptom of the process of detaching the candidate from the grass-roots. That would be a poor trade-off, in my opinion, if that is the consequence of accepting this offer.
You know, we'd carry Ron Paul on our shoulders to get him from point A to point B, but that's not efficient in a nationwide race---so if the jet can be legally and safely used, I say "go for it!"

Freaking me out
You people are freaking me out a little bit. Let the campaign office worry about legal issues and company background checks. We should be encouraging corporate support! So please stop with the conspiracy theories before you scare off other sponsors!
PS: That means no more Kennedy Jr., black ops, or tin foil hat talk!
Don't Do It
Two words: Paul Wellstone
Not worth the risk.
.
Very nice offer, but if I were Dr. Paul I would say no thanks. Private jets are the most easily sabotaged. It certainly happened with Mel Carnahan, John Kennedy, Jr., and others. Small aircraft have been consistently rigged by professional black-op personnel, killing the intended victim and others.
This is not to disparage Neal's kind offer, but private jets are far, far less secure than large commercial airplanes.
I would advise Dr. Paul to NOT board any private jet, for any reason whatsoever.
Private jet legality
From what I understand, it's perfectly legal for Dr. Paul to fly on a private jet as long as he reimburses the owner of the plane at the rate of a first class ticket for the same trip.
As for whether or not it's a good idea, as long as the company checks out, and the campaign wants to do it, I think it'd be great. The poor guy has to spend enough time flying; it might as well be comfortable and convenient.

Love the idea
Hate the security risk. Dr. Ron is already a national treasure to many of us and I for one would be devistated if anything happened.

McCain-Feingold
This "in-kind" contribution violates McCain-Feingold.
The McCain-Feingold act was passed specifically to hamper campaigns such as Ron Paul's. A minority candidate always has trouble at the beginning raising enough money to compete with the "big boys." This is by design. Campaign finance reform has nothing to do with eliminating corruption. It has everything to do with eliminating competition.
Investigate the company
I would do an in depth investigation of this company and see what connections they have to the government (if any). Looking up names, other corporations involved, organizations, etc.
If it all clears then I'd say GO FOR IT!!!
If not, tell them to go kill someone else.
Its a good gesture, but I'm
Its a good gesture, but I'm sure I'm not the only one that remembers the story of Ron Paul flying first class... imagine the story if he flew in a private jet!
I'm sure this company realizes Dr. Paul will never take them up on this offer. Therfore they have nothing to loose by getting a little bit of free advertisment for themselves and for the candidate they support, Ron Paul.
I say thank you Neal Rodriguez and Imperial Jets for showing your support for Dr. Paul!
Solution: Create a 527 Group
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/527_group
A 527 will pay for the jet and other campaign needs to "mobilize support" for Ron Paul. As long as the use of the jet is practicle and not extravigant, the opposition would be about the same as the media swiping at Ron Paul's latest earmarks.
What to call it is the hard/fun part.
WE ARE GOING TO WIN!
offering the jet
Thanks for doing this for Ron Paul. It's people like you that are going to help Ron Paul become the next President!

If it's all legal and above
If it's all legal and above board it would be great. And I'm sure that before the campaign would accept anything like this they would be sure it was.
Since the Saturday forums: ITR and ICA forum and then Ron Pauls Forum the DesMoines Registerar has reset their Poll go here to vote.

Ron's lawyers will have to
Ron's lawyers will have to look at this. Federal campaign finance law prohibits corporate contributions to a federal candidate's official campaign. Providing free transportation could be considered an in-kind contribution. If the business is incorporated, that could make it a corporate contribution. If the business is a sole proprietorship (very unlikely), then the value of contribution would be limited to 2,300 for an individual. I'm no campaign finance expert, but it could be that a federal "anti-corruption" law could hamper the campaign of this most honest statesman. Another example of unintended consequences...
Then why can the nation's
Then why can the nation's "newspapers" offer free ads for the "main" candidates?

Whoa
What’s going on here? Has the ‘wasted vote’ ruse has been shattered into a thousand pieces? From here in histories largest box canyon, I guess an argument could be made that every ballot cast lately has been a wasted vote. Just step over the broken glass and take a seat.
Digg
Get over there and Digg that press release so their company knows it's going to get the exposure it needs to cover the costs of flying Dr. Paul around. Right now I'm looking at 50 Diggs; lets get that thing up to 1000!
Not so fast...
How do you know this isn't something sinister? I wouldn't chance it for the world. We have our national treasure at stake!
I second that!
Exactly! "Accidents" do happen, like the one that happened to Kennedy Jr.
It's not worth it!
Don't do it, Ron.
Nice of them to offer, though.
ROFL
What does this say about our group. I THOUGHT THE SAME DAMN THING lol. I'm thinking if they want to "mysteriously" crash him into a mountain side, at least if he's flying coach, they'll have to take and entire jumbo jet down with him. Makes it a little harder at least.
Course I'm just a paranoid tin foil hat wearer.
