MICHAEL NYSTROM, PLEASE READ: Flag deleting can and will kill this site.Submitted by Kevin Tuma on Tue, 06/03/2008 - 11:26
Flag deleting can kill this site.
The off-topic stuff, which some people want deleted, is what keeps the site thriving, busy, and healthy.
On the other hand, IveSeentheConst makes a good case for it being an on-topic Ron Paul only site, and if I'm reading the tea leaves correctly, the owner of the site agrees. And what the owner of the site says, goes.
If the owner of the site is reading this post, however, I respectfully call for a change in the rules. Because if all posts that are not directly pertinent to Ron Paul's presidential campaign are deleted, and people enforce this with flagging, people who make thoughtful posts or engage in debates will stop posting, and eventually the only thing you will have here is a dwindling number of one-liner posts and monosyllabic grunts and "attaboy Rons". Hell, even discussion of his book is not directly pertinent to Ron Paul's presidential campaign. What is deemed by some as "off-topic" is the conversational lifeblood of this now-thriving web Forum. It can and will collapse to an un-thriving Forum very quickly, if rule abusers tear it apart.
Flag wars from people with multiple accounts are starting now (see the comments in Treg's thread "List People who FLAG Here: Petition to stop flagging"). Flagging invites abuse from both would-be censors and hotheads who want to teach the censors a lesson. People are now creating multiple screenname accounts, so they can delete any threads they don't like without any other group consensus.
This will get out of control very soon. Consider yourself warned by a true friend of this site.
The flag deletion is getting serious now, so I respectfully request Mr. Nystrom address this issue, please.
