What is it about men and Ron Paul?

0 votes

I was looking at the demographics of who gave money to which candidate, and Ron Paul's donors are 89% male. McCain had 72% male donors, whereas Clinton and Obama had money given to them more equally... men and women both.

Why are so many of Ron Paul's supporters men?

The only theory can come up with is the fact that so many of RP's supporters are in the military, which is predominately male.

Any other theories?

Before reading any further

I suggest you look to your own experiences before passing judgment. Such a broad and sweeping statement like this also belongs in the "Only women support Hillary" box. Please, does it matter? Does this Unlinked bit of information warrant any time on the parts of us? Surely we can find better things to focus on than this worthless, unproductive hit piece to drive a divisive wedge between the males and females of this Revolution. In fact I think we have some of the most attractive females out of all the remaining candidates combined. Well sorry brains are a turn on for me. Kind of one sided when put that way.

Men Hate Being Controlled

Women want someone to care about them. Men want people to respect them. Control is antithetical to respect. I think men will always dominate the front lines for the cause of freedom.

It isn't about men being more intelligent. They are just different.

At least thats what I read.

Genetic Coding

Two million years of evolution have programmed males to take risks and practice self-reliance. He had to single-mindedly pursue his prey through all manner of hardship and was rewarded for his risk taking by bagging the big game and generally answering to no one but himself.

At the same time, evolution was programming females to avoid risks, to work together and share feelings and child-rearing responsibilities. She subordinated herself to the desires of her mate or the demands of her tribe. Her reward for avoiding risk was to be protected by the collective and to see her children being supported even when she or her mate were unable to provide.

I think there are many reasons, the main one being that RP

appeals to people's logic and reasoning, not their emotions. This is also why he doesn't appeal to a larger audience. For those of you who are interested in MBTI, Myers Briggs testing, I think that he has great appeal among NT's, particularly particularly the INTP and INTJ's. This is also the type most likely to work in the computer industry which explains some of his widespread support there. You will also notice a shortage of women in this field.

I hate to say this, but...

most of my female friends who I have spoken with about politics just don't care. I actually had one of my girlfriends tell me that as long as Target is still open she doesn't see any real problems 9she was only half kidding)- I really think she speaks for a lot of people who just don't care unless their everyday life is noticeably impacted...although I do hear more people talking abut gas prices and rising costs of goods.
Of my female friends who are politically aware they all tend to be democrats. I think that it is in large part because in theory they believe that all people should be taken care of...we are nurturers by nature after all. I am so frustrated though, that they don't seem to care at all where all of the money to pay for all of these social programs come from, or that by promoting these programs, it really causes more government control over our lives.

Still a Proud Female Supporter of Ron Paul

I think that it is in large

I think that it is in large part because in theory they believe that all people should be taken care of...we are nurturers by nature after all.

This is an accurate observation. Though men in general are subject to similar sentiments...just less intense.

People are programmed to instinctively know that their chances of surviving alone are pretty low. We need our bosses, we need our customers, our family, our friends, our neighbors.

When we encounter someone in our sphere of influence that is suffering, we desire to help. By helping them we are helping ourselves.

This breaks down rapidly in modern society, as we have the technological means to artificially inflate our sphere of influence. Every time the news puts on a news story of a cute animal suffering, or children suffering...people's natural reaction? SOMEBODY DO SOMETHING!!!

With the internet, we have the ability to be informed about everything. We're exposed to all the inequities of life, the un-gracefulness, the brutality of much of it. This is too much for most to digest, and to put into perspective. The way to assuage their conscience? Let's create a bigger more powerful entity that will fix the problem.

Which is exactly the road straight to hell.

and yes..it's lined perfectly with good intentions.

Or that

by lowering taxes and regulations, people will be more wealthy, which will allow them to be more charitable to those in need as well as allow more people to pull themselves out of poverty.

Welfare.

Libertarianism is a guy thing and always has been. I think libertarianism's opposition to welfare statism may not appeal to women. They're more driven by nurturing emotions which lead them to like candidates who promise that they'll use the government to take care of people.

That doesn't mean RP has any

That doesn't mean RP has any less female supporters. Maybe it was man in the house that wrote the check. That's all.

As far as women versus men goes, I do think there is a stronger instinctual/cultural urge amongst women to follow social cues.

I don't care what anyone says most females are weak and want, expect handouts. Under the true republican laws most women would lose their welfare state to keep their strong positions (out of thin air) in tact. A lot of them would be forced to submit and become at least partially dependent on the smarter and hard working men. The smart and strong females would thrive in the free market but then again it doesn't matter if it's females, shemales, minorities. The smartest and hardest working people would benefit whereas the lazy scumbags would suffer.

Um, wow

So a mother who works is probably neglecting her family, but a mother who stays home is lazy. My goodness, do you really believe most women are lazy and on welfare?

My husband and contributed equally to Ron Paul, the maximum. I am in charge of the budget and bill paying tasks in our house so I made all the donations in both of our names. The person making the budget is more aware of windfalls and shortcomings and would be able to predict the financial impact of a donation. So that is my theory, the person who is in charge of finances for the family made the donations. Maybe more men in America are in charge of paying bills? Who cares?

I have given a countless amount of money to chipins, meetup fees, campaign HQ, and sign making parties. I have also given countless hours walking door to door, sign waving in the snow, phone-banking, and attending events. I would like my contributions to the freedom movement to be weighted on their merit not the fact that I wore a dress to meet Dr. Paul.

Maybe women are turned off to the freedom movement because we a few vocal misogynists here?

Turned Off?

"Maybe women are turned off to the freedom movement because we [have] a few vocal misogynists here?"

I doubt that dedicated freedom fighters are likely to throw in the towel just because a few of our fellow travelers are mouthy pinheads. Most of us are hardier than that and already accustomed to a lifetime of ridicule for our libertarian/individualist ways.

What a bunch of cr@p.

Please start a website featuring all these smart and hardworking men. My welfare sisters and I would love to hook up with these winners.

Are these the same men who father children and leave them for their women to raise? Nah, couldn't be.

Women have more to gain from the welfare state

Generally speaking, women tend to be less financially independent. This insecurity leads them to support the welfare state, which they hope will help them if the time comes. I don't think it has much to do with women as being naturally more nurturing than men, but that women act, like virtually all of us, in their own self interest.

We vote and donate money

We vote and donate money more according to logic and reason than emotion. Preying upon peoples baser instincts is how the Democrats, and now the neo-Republicans, compete.

Universal Voting "rights"

There seems to be a strong correlation between women gaining voting rights and the rise of the welfare state. It appears in most modern industialized countries and I think there's even a book out, that details this theory.

Since women are naturally and socially, the nurturing, care-givers, they are drawn in by the platitudes of the nanny/welfare state. "People should have security in their old age," was the justification (in 1935) for the failing, Ponzi-pyramid scheme that is Social(ist) (In)Security.

"People shouldn't be starving, in the richest country on earth," ushered in the myriad of "great society" anti-poverty and food stamp programs of the sixties. Same with the "War on (some) Drugs" program that claims to be protecting our kids.

All socialist programs sound good, but they rely on government force to carry them out and result in a loss of liberty, both for the tax-payers who fund it and the recipients that become de-facto wards of the state.

Democrats (and now most republicans) have been selling us these "sounds good to me" freedom-stealing programs for so long that both men and women lap it up and figure that's just the way it is.

Of course, we know better and have researched the "results" of gov't imposed retirement and welfare programs. We know these "entitlments" will bankrupt this country, if we don't fix them.

Socialism: "Everybody gets everything they want......and somebody else will pay for it." But when the non-producers outnumber the producers, the thing collapses. We are getting ever closer to that point.

Even though women may tend to "lean left" once they "look behind the curtain" of collectivists shams and realize they've been lied to......Katie bar the door! Once the working, single mom realizes that her total tax rate is close to 50% and that non-working parasites are actually stealing food from her kids (w/ govt help, too)...she stops voting for an ever increasing welfare state.

The light bulb goes on.

It's ironic that several of the more prominant "freedom writers" in America, were women: Rose Wilder Lane, Isabelle Patterson and of course, Ayn Rand.

I'll never forget my first reading of Rand's, "The Fountainhead". It changed my life.

People will find out that nice sounding ideas are no substitute for lost Liberty, once Obama settles in to finishing the job of socializing America.

It's up to us to continue to spread the word of freedom, so that we can save this country. The revolution is just beginning and I only pray that enough Americans will see the light, in time.

Go Ron Paul
Freedom Lives

"..shall not be infringed."

Couldn't have said it better

But I also think it is ironic that most of the early leaders of this rebirth like Rand and Wilder Lane were women.

Wow!

I was just thinking about this a minute ago.

I thought about how conservative women are very family oriented and would many times support the men's political views. Join that with Ron Paul being the candidate out of all parties to receive the most Military donations. And how conservative women really should be supporting their military men.

Yet, more independant women who have internet access are the foremost supporters. It is a very ecclectic group of women, smart and very pretty (aimee allen).

Men and Ron Paul

Women will go for the guy who can dance everytime. Real men don't dance....or mince words.

I think you may be right

In a traditional marriage household, the mans name would naturaly be attached to any donations. Not allways but a majority I would think. That would tilt the numbers some. But on the other hand, where single women are concerned I tend to agree with some of the other replies on this thread.
And for all you single women who support Ron Paul I salute you.

That be me.

My spouse is busy working and on call 24/7 to "pay the man" and keep our head above water..I do the research and groundwork for all of our decisions...and present both sides to him "in a nutshell". Including Ron Paul donations.
