I disagree with the motivation behind messages that are meant
to scare people. This is "their" primary technique.
It does not serve people to scare them.
I have been in wholesale food distribution for 35 years and I assure we will all be just as overweight this year as we were last year.
We have an incredibly efficient food production and distribution system supported by obesity statistics and it is irresponsible to suggest anything different.

US Obesity is caused by lack of exercise, not food.
But again, business agendae are served by propagating the myth that fat Americans are gluttons instead of what they really are--sloths!
The diet industry makes billions of dollars, and so do those doctors butchering women's stomachs. And of course a pro-exercise public relations campaign might result in a lot more people shutting off the Boob Tube..and we can't have that, can we?

To be accurate you should say "UP UNTIL NOW we have had an incredibly efficient food production and distribution system."
It is a system HEAVILY dependent on oil. Agreed? What would happen if the price of oil tripled?
And it is a system where prices - for the most part - are allowed to rise and fall with supply and demand and farmers and other participants in the system can respond. I know about subsidies and marketing orders and such that mess with the markets. But there is still a functioning MARKET for food. What if there wasn't? What if strict government price controls on all food products made it impossible to make a profit growing, tranporting or selling food? What would happen to your system then?
And your system is based on a functioning currency, right? What happens to your system if the dollar collapses? What happens if the farmers can't borrow any money because all the banks have is toilet paper that nobody will take?
Ignoring the real threats to our economy is at least as irresponsible as spreading panic.
Messages designed to alarm people are acts of charity if, in fact, catastrophe is approaching and everyone is sitting around with their thumbs inserted. Wouldn't you agree?

Happen to have a Ron Paul 1000 dollar gold piece right here in my pocket #194. Bought it way back for around $600, so I am not religiously against buying it, but I was sure to have seven years store of food and water first. One year is still better than nothing, but I like to be well prepared.

Your correct, but which side of the equation do you want to be on, the one with gold buying grain or the one selling grain? Who will have control? I am sure the government probably has some stockpiles of grain set aside they don't tell us about, which will probably not be available for everyone in case of emergency even if you have gold, or if you are able to buy from them, but that will make you dependent on them. I would like to hold on to my independence, if everyone on earth at the time of Joseph would have stored seven years of food, they wouldn't have had to give their gold or silver to Egypt to buy it. If a person has the ability to produce their own food now or store it now, why would you want to pay later, at a price that I am sure they will stipulate. And it could cost you a lot of gold if there is a limited supply of food.

You are assuming that the price will go down because we won't have money to pay for it. But this isn't the problem. The price is going up also because the Chinese government is buying petroleum with FRNs from the Middle East, and then the Middle Eastern countries purchase Chinese products with FRNs, there is no shortage of dollars in China or the Middle East, they are trading well with FRNs, the problem is that these dollars are not coming back to the States to circulate and allow us to pay our bills.

Did you all know that you can live off one fresh egg everyday and water if you had to???
A FRESH egg gives you enough of the basics to get you by if you HAD to....(well until you needed vitamin C anyway)
And did you know that even in the city or suburbs most places will allow you to keep chickens as pets (not considering them livestock if you don't intend to eat them) so you could get some chickens and enjoy their eggs....(without a rooster they will usually lay one egg a day up to five years)
Chickens also don't need any special food (although like most things..the better the stuff that goes in the better the stuff that comes out)
Chickens will eat all of your food scraps, are regularly given their own eggshells for calcium, can drink rain water, and can survive all climates in the USA. They are also good for eating grass and controlling insect population and provide wonderful organic fertilizer for your garden. Just some food for thought =)

Look around. Every poor villiage in every third world country on the planet has one thing in common - chickens. There is a reason for that.
Got me a couple hens a few months back. Should start laying any day.

I apologize if I come off harsh towards gold and silver, we are on the same side, and as long as we keep looking towards our goal, these little differences won't matter much.
I do overreact at times, but it is out of concern for people that I care about and know will suffer the most.
I am always careful not to quote the bible, since many times it leads to even more arguements. But I am sure you are familiar with the story of Joseph in Genesis. There were good crops for 7 years and Joseph had the people to store the grain. Then it quit raining and no crops would grow. The famine was over all the earth, and Egypt was the only country with food.
Now I am not a doomsday prophet, but I believe that it is practical advice considering our current world situation. We have Israel willing now to lead the fight against Iran. We have over a 100,000 soldiers in the Middle East fighting a war, and we have a government that has and continues to keep us as slaves. I don't see any Joseph leading the government to store grain for 7 years, don't imagine our supply would go beyond 6 months in a crisis.

ALL families should have atleast 1 years worth of strorage food! mountisn house will last as long as 50 years.. after food and water, then hygeine items, tools, GARDEN SEEDS, NONHYBRID- and then you will need some silver/gold. yep were on the same side, no argument there. but real money will be just as important as food, water etc.. there will always need to be commerce between people in a localized area.. what if you want to buy a large ticket item like 50 acres of land? how will you trade enough food or other things to buy it?

I just wanted to add that in Genesis when Joseph conviced Egypt to store grain before the famine, this allowed his family to survive when his brothers came to buy food. His brothers used money (ie. gold/silver) to buy grain from Egypt. This story shows why it is wise to store both food and other real commodities/wealth for lean times.
I live in a small aparment and cannot store large amounts of food.
That is why I store gold/silver to prepare for the worst.
We should also be prepared to grow our own food when there is none to buy.
When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.
I don't mind stocking up some food because it's not
wasteful spending and it's not speculation if I actually eat the food, eventually.

We are obviously talking to two different audiences. I grew up close to the Detroit area amoung people who make minimum wage and go paycheck to paycheck. I under no circumstance would tell them to buy gold, because they probably wouldn't even know if it was real. They need to stock up on food first and understand that gold and silver isn't going to help them. So don't misunderstand my enthusiasm for food when I put it at the top of the list with, tools, water ect, ect, ect, and at the bottom of my list to buy some silver and last of all gold.
Of course if Ron Paul wins, we won't need to buy gold, because he says he will offer an alternative to the FRN and coin money in gold and silver for people to use. I suggest he make payment to Social Security Retired people first, and let it flow into the system. So excuse me if I throw a little water on your desire to start a gold fever, but history shows us that poor people are naive and need people to keep them them on the right track.

I see where your coming from! but do you know that a few pre 1964 silver dims would be good to have! you can buy them 1 at a time if need be. Your right food/water should be the first priority.. but for those people living paycheck to paycheck this is the one way for them to get ahead! 200 face value of silver dimes occumulated over time will be worth a small fortune if people would just start slowly and buy! it will get them ahead.. how many packs of cigarettes or 6 packs of beer can these people give up to invest in there future! and I'm not trying to start gold fever, I personally have very little gold.. silver is where I go.. and the reason they stay poor is because of there naivity. they pooh pooh every thing that comes along and won't look at something that could get them well off! for a small investment. if Ron Paul becomes president I will then look differently at gold but not silver.. silver is in shortage and that metal is consumed! it is used to make almost everything we need to live. again for the millionth time-- go read ted butler-
