Fox News Covering the Botnet Story
Submitted by thehyperaspist on Thu, 11/01/2007 - 07:54Big surprise here, Faux News decided not to pursue real people donating 2.6 million to RP this month, but did bring up (really just add a malicious summary to the wired article) the Botnet story.

Any thoughts on this one. I don't know how to track down owners of a botnet. If any of you are deep in the interwebs and know this is real, ask'em to stop.
Otherwise, anyone gotten any spam in support of other candidates? If so, I'd like to point it out to Wired and Fox. You know, fair and balanced, right??

Sorry it wasn't definitely just worm spam, guys.
Guiliani
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5LgUiz2mBA will show who did it. It was a Guiliani supporter from overseas. Her email is listed in the video in the same forum where she admitted doing it and was, drum roll, PAID TO DO IT.

Just let them spin all they
Just let them spin all they want. Listen, There is no denying who we are and the power we have. Already in Oct 2.6 Million? Must be alot of BOT's with FIAT BOT MONEY huu? Enjoy the publicity, the more that Fox says his name the better. I wonder if they will cover the 5th. If so, I wonder how it will be spun.

Just some spammer
It's not a Ron Paul supporter, and it's not someone trying to deface online support.
I guarantee you it is someone from overseas that is trying to use the popularity of the search term, "Ron Paul", to get people to open the email and click on links for viagra/porn/inventment sites. That's it. That's what spammers do, which is why you will also see so many "Paris Hilton" subject lines. There are bots upon bots that search for popular terms and turn them into random spams.
Think about it: who is more likely to open the spam; someone who has never heard of Ron Paul, or one of us?
Strategy..
...Ignore obvious negativity (Faux) and focus on positivity. Keep on tract by spreading the good word about Ron Paul.
Nov 5th will be hard not to report. The coverage is increasing. The message is spreading. The signs are everywhere.
Do not waste too much of our valuable time fighting with thugs, rather convince their competitors to be fair and balanced and stick it to them where it hurts...ratings and cash flow.
keep up the good work.
COME ON WAKE UP
This is not a RP supporter sending this stuff out, it's an establishment supporter sending it out. Trying to make everyone think that RP people are spammers.

Are you sure it's not a fake story?
The "mainstream" media have, after all, run items from The Onion (usually front-page material) followed by corrections (page B-16).

I've had the same email address since 1993
(Yes, in some ways I'm a stubborn idiot -- so sue me. Eventually, I'll change it to something else, but I have good filters.) I have yet to get anything I could describe as spam for Ron Paul. I get very little religious or political spam, in general. Most spammers are more concerned with the tiny size of my private parts or trying to get me to believe I'll ever "make money fast."
Doesn't this story have its roots in one of those fake sites put up by RP supporters to show how over the top other candidates are? If so, it's yet another case of them swallowing fake-news that looks bad about Ron Paul hook, line, and sinker. If not, and a bot-net exists, I can state confidently that only its owner (who could be anyone, but probably is NOT a Ron Paul supporter considering his actions) controls it. The only long-term cure for 'bot nets is decent computer security hygiene by individuals, but nobody ever seems to want to hear that.

Could it be
Could it be that people using IP hiders such as hidemyass.com sending email that makes the studier here think that emails are being laundered through a botnet?
Hiding your IP address could be a good thing, since we are living in spying times. But I think that IP hiding is at the razor's edge and is very foreign even to someone who thinks he knows email tracking.
It especially would be hard for an educrat to figure out.

Plenty of Evidence That Support Is Real
Shouldn't we all use this as an opportunity to point out all the other support that could not be affected by bots (whataever they are; it is foreign to me)? For example, many of the post debate polls were by text messaging. Those results can't be affected by bots, can they? And there are the fundraising numbers and numbers regarding Meetup goups and members, etc, etc. Let's use this as a way to emphasize the obvious signs of support.

From what I read
It may have also been someone using the old fashion remailers
it was more likely either a juvenile attempt to get attention for a youtube video, or a way to get rid of a particular video on youtube.
See what Chris barton of mcAfee says http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2007/10/more-on-ron-pau.html
"Now I have no idea what that video was (and frankly dear, I don’t give a damn!) but what struck me is that this would be a really efficient way to remove your competitions videos from youtube. I’m not picking on YouTube here, I believe almost any social site would do the same."
All I know is
All I know is that with as many tech saavy people as we have here, if this can be figured out, we have the people with the time, interest, and ability to do so. Someone on this site is an IS expect, and will be following up on it. Of that I have no doubt.
