This article is implying that a "nay" vote is more in line with impeachment?!

Got this via e-mail the other day...

I got this e-mail from Congressman Wexler on June 10th, so I thought I'd share.

Dear xxxxx

Our effort to hold the Bush/Cheney Administration accountable has taken another dramatic step forward. Last night, Congressman Dennis Kucinich introduced the first Articles of Impeachment ever to be introduced against President Bush. It includes, in total, thirty-five Articles detailing this Administration's blatant abuse of power. Today, I enthusiastically co-sponsored this vitally important bill.

I am grateful for Dennis' leadership on this issue and for the steadfast support that countless Americans have given to both of our efforts to redeem our government and expose the crimes of Bush and Cheney.

I will now expand my efforts to secure impeachment hearings in the Judiciary Committee for these new Articles of Impeachment against President George W. Bush.

Many of the charges against President Bush are well known – and would shock the conscience of everyday Americans if only the national media would be willing to report on these stark facts.

The Articles present a stunning narrative of offenses that have go well beyond previous crimes committed by any US chief executive. In fact no President or Vice President in history has done more to undermine our constitution.

These charges are broad, with 35 separate allegations including the deliberate lies regarding WMDs that led us to war and the approval of illegal wiretapping of American citizens. The Articles also include new allegations of high crimes – including the explicit approval for high Administration officials to violate treaties and US law banning the use of torture.

The Democratic Party gained a majority in the House and Senate due in large part to our promises to end the corruption of the Republican majority and to hold the Administration accountable to the law. This courageous bill is a crucial step towards fulfilling this promise, but – like the Articles against Cheney – they require your support to convince Democrats and open-minded Republicans to support this bold but necessary action.

Time is running out so we must work together to spread the message and apply pressure.

First, please encourage your friends and family members to sign up at WexlerWantsHearings.com – as it will allow us to keep in touch with you and speak to a wider audience. If you haven't yet put in your phone and address, please sign up again, as we will be doing telephone town halls in the near future.

Second, call your representative and urge them to support Impeachment hearings.

Finally, contact newspapers, news stations, and your favorite bloggers and urge them to report on this movement. We need to keep Impeachment a significant news story until the Democratic leadership sees the value in it.

McClellan Agrees to Testify:

I was pleased to inform you yesterday that Judiciary Committee Chairman Conyers met my call to have Former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan testify under oath. I am thrilled to inform you that McClellan has agreed to testify on June 20th at 10AM. This will be the first step in what we hope will be ongoing and deepening examinations of the stark evidence and charges against both President Bush and Vice President Cheney.

Thank you for your continued passion and advocacy. Your support means so much to me.

Sincerely,

Congressman Robert Wexler

Don't let this impeachment process die...

Write these people, especially Conyers, and Wexler:

http://judiciary.house.gov/CommitteeMembership.aspx

You can go to this site and get links to their websites for contact information, and please write.

It will stay in Limbo too, unless...

WE THE PEOPLE, demand otherwise...We must ALL make an effort to contact our State Representatives, and each of the Judiciary Committee Members to let them know that this Impeachment Resolution must not die, or be shoved under the table. I have taken the time to write each one of them, I have faxed letters to them, or sent them a letter via mail, if you really want something done, step up to the plate and get involved. Here is the Link to all of the Honorable Judiciary Committee Members:

http://judiciary.house.gov/CommitteeMembership.aspx

Each one of them have a link to their websites with contacts numbers, and addresses. If we want to make a difference, and see that the Constitution is no longer treated as a G_D damn piece of paper by Bush, get involved and write these people and let them know we mean business.

The more they hear from us, the less likely they are to forget about this matter. Pelosi needs to be written to as well, don't forget her, she may in fact be the problem, but if she wants to stay in office she better start taking her Oath of Office seriously, or she may be next in line for impeachment, oh and by the way there is already a petition to impeach Pelosi out there.

Dont waste your time

Sending proposals to the Judiciary Commitee is the way that they typically use to kill proposals. It was sent there for the PURPOSE of killing it.

The Republicans wants impeachment debated, in order to embarrass the Democrats. The Democrats voted to send it there because they don't want to debate impeachment, for that same reason.

It's confusing because a Yes vote looks like it's voting to start impeachment proceedings. But it's the opposite. If No votes won, then impeachment debates would start there in the House.

From what I have read...

I believe you are wrong...show me please.

I have researched this via Government websites, and...

This is how they conduct an Impeachment process:

The Steps of Impeachment
The Constitution defines the role of the House and Senate in impeachment.

The House Judiciary Committee conducts the inquiry or investigation into the crimes.
The House Judiciary Committee approves Articles of Impeachment (charges) by a majority vote.
The House of Representative debates each article. If at least one passes with a 50.5% majority vote then the individual is "impeached".
The Senate conducts a trial and can convict with a 2/3 majority of those Senators present.
If convicted then the person is removed from office.
It is possible to skip steps 1 & 2 if a Representative introduces Articles of Impeachment directly. But that resolution would most likely just get referred to the Judiciary for step #1. That is what happened with Kucinich's Articles of Impeachment for impeach Dick Cheney.

Privilege
According to the Jefferson Manual LIII, Section 604, resolutions that call for impeachment, or call for an investigations that suggests impeachment may be an end, are considered "privileged" and must be addressed before other business. More details on privilege here.

Our Job
We need to pressure the House Judiciary Committee to get started. Here is a list of members. Please contact your representative and ask them to get the ball rolling. Once the impeachment process starts, it is important that we continue to support our representatives all the way through.

List of Judiciary Committee Members with website and contact info.

Once again I ask you do not believe what you read from media sources they are bias and want us to let this go.

What you believe to be true, is true to you... "until you change your mind"

Have any of you

sent emails, made phone calls, etc to Congress about this matter? I have..and will send some more. Do I have alot of hope that MY (and the majority of the American people's) desires (impeachment) will be achieved? No. I am so fed up with our reps. ignoring what WE THE PEOPLE want. They work for us.
So, since we are advised to get involved in local/state/federal government processes, etc...I have decided to spend some of my energy supporting the "Throw Them All Out" movement. If WE supported financially, emotionally, etc. EVERY (long term) incumbent's opponent, whether Democrat or Republican...if a large number of incumbents lost their seats, that would send a HUGE message...that they work for us, and should vote what their constituents want...
Another thing that I think would really help WE THE PEOPLE is a law making it illegal to accept lobbyist money...I did a little research and found out that lobbying has been around since BEFORE we gained our independence (that really surprised me). IMO, Congress votes for what special interests want since they receive special interests' money...remove the money, remove the "bad" voting..

"Throw the bums out" is as old as politics

Voting out the incumbent is talked about EVERY election. And nothing ever happens. So we lose heart. Never before in the history of the nation have so many people been utterly disgusted with both the pres and the congress- maybe this will be the time it actually happens.

Maybe this will be the time..

maybe pple are just fed up enough to actually instead of talking about it, take some action to do it....one can hope...I will do my part....but, imo, it'd take widespread involvement...

The state Secretaries of

The state Secretaries of State are also partially to blame. They should not be certifying candidates who have violated their oaths of office. In addition, the majority of states voted in term limits by huge margins. The wishes of the people should be honored and term limits enforced. And what about enforcing the 13th Amendment's section about no attorneys being eligible to serve as an elected official?

I came to dailypaul for awhile before posting anything, just read stuff...wanted to feel comfortable before "jumping in"...
but honestly, does liz from louisville have mental health issues, or is this yet another attempt to distract us, done with malice aforethought? I don't know...but it does get tiring (to this old lady, anyway) having to figure everything out (real, Memorex, troll, truth, lie, misinformed, friend, foe..LOL) when all one wants to do is help a wonderful deserving person get elected as President....sigh....

Not listening

Here's a response from my wonderful(sarcastic) congresswoman on it.

"Thank you for expressing your opinion of President George W. Bush. I appreciate the opportunity to respond to your concerns.

As you may know, the United States Constitution sets forth the general principles that control the impeachment process. The power to impeach is vested in the House of Representatives, while the Senate has the power to try impeachments. Impeachment proceedings in the House may proceed if a Member declares a charge of impeachment or introduces a memorial listing of the charges under oath.

A President may be removed from office upon impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors. To this date, no Member has initiated impeachment proceedings. This is likely because the President is not under any criminal investigation and has not been charged with a crime.

I respect your views on the Iraq War; however the reasons behind the war in Iraq were fully explored in the 2004 election. The American people chose to return President Bush to office with a historic number of votes cast and clearly decided that the liberation of Iraq was proper."

I thank you for your input on this matter.

Sincerely,

Ginny Brown-Waite
