Anyone else bothered by Ron's vote to go into Afghanistan?
Submitted by atrickpay on Mon, 06/16/2008 - 12:31
Why did he do it??
I know that he supposedly just voted for the authorization to go after Bin Laden...but shouldn't he have known better?
Let's be honest, the government's military have a long and deep track
record of f'n things up...Ron did you get swayed by the fear of being called "unpatriotic" or something?
»

I'm Glad (he voted that way)
Even if it was a mistake--it's comforting, isn't it, to think even Ron Paul isn't cookie-cutter "perfect."? I know that when I was canvassing and explaining Ron Paul's position, it sure made it easier to explain how Ron Paul supports taking out real terrorists...some folks may not realize that Ron Paul is not a Pacifist---and we welcome you, pacifists---we don't need to divide each other.
You know, I don't even know or care about the whole earmark "scandal" - or if once Ron Paul voted for a ceremonial special day regarding a sporting event...Sometimes Ron Paul is just so perfect it's creepy!

It is an appropriate use of the military to retaliate against anyone who attacks this country. I have no problem with that.
However, it is, in a sense, like asking should we have gotten into WWII? The important question is why we got involved in WWI which laid the groundwork for WWII. If we had done the right thing with WWI there probably would not have been a WWII.
Going after the 9/11 perps is small potatos compared to the big questions regarding our foreign policy mistakes that led to 9/11.
Now, I beg to differ...
I have to disagree with some viewpoints expressed. Dr. Paul voted 100@ correct and constitutional in voting yes to go after the perpetrators of 9/11 Al Qaeda in Afghanistan and to go after Osama Bin Laden. He expressly did not want to vote for "regime change" and nation building in Afghanistan (e.g. overthrow of the Taliban). The US and other troops would have found Osama Bin Laden & Co. if they concentrated on that. As the Bush administration did not stick to this mission, but changed it to a nation-building one (which Dr. Paul was afraid might happen...he had the right suspicion, therefore his doubts), Dr. Paul has expressed regret at voting yes. His yes vote was principally 100% justified and constitutional. This is no exception case where he voted wrong. Paul clearly did not vote to overthrow the Taliban etc. and this was also not part of the vote. The vote was to go after Osama Bin Laden.

From minute 4.50 Paul is addressing this issue in the interview with O'Reilly.
Dr. Paul should be commended for voting 100% correct in a difficult, stressful time and circumstances.

Ron Paul voted like every other american would have after 911. Using hindsight to go back and slander someone is really pathetic. For you to come here and tell us it bothers you NOW...well that is obvious I`m sure it bothers a lot of us now that we know the truth. Had you asked this question on 9/12/2001 it might have been more appropriate but at this time you are just exposing yourself as being the neocon zionist pig you are.
Ron Paul 2012
Not every American would have voted for that.
I was one of many, who saw it a a false flag operation, because I had been paying attention since Oklahoma City,Waco, and the 93 WTC bombing.
Why was it that we didn't know what size plane had hit the WTC's but immediately knew it was OBL.?? C'mon

The Second Amendment
The ORIGINAL Homeland Security
Barbara Lee voted against invading Afghanistan
"Lee gained national attention in 2001 as the only member of congress to vote "No" on the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Terrorists (AUMF), stating that she did not do so because she opposed action but because she believed the AUMF, as written, granted overly-broad powers to wage war to the president at a time when the facts regarding the situation were not yet clear. She explained "It was a blank check to the president to attack anyone involved in the September 11 events -- anywhere, in any country, without regard to our nation's long- term foreign policy, economic and national security interests, and without time limit. In granting these overly broad powers, the Congress failed its responsibility to understand the dimensions of its declaration.... The president has the constitutional authority to protect the nation from further attack and he has mobilized the armed forces to do just that. The Congress should have waited for the facts to be presented and then acted with fuller knowledge of the consequences of our action."" -From Wikipedia
And she was the only No vote. I would say she out-Pauled Dr. Paul on this one.
Bob Barr Money Bombs July 2: www.BarrBomb.com and July 4 www.BobBarrMoneyBomb.com Help continue propagating the Revolutionary message of liberty. (9/11 "Truthers": Please don't support Barr. You'll hurt his public image and cost him support and votes, like you did to Dr. Paul).
That is just not true.
A lot of libertarians were opposed to it back on 9/12/01.
What Say you
Fellow Freedom fighter's. No need to respond for not doing so shows your agreement to let this Post sink into the abyss from whence it came. This is my final post on this poor attempt to turn on Ron Paul. I would be impressed at our resolve if this thing began to sink away. See everyone on better post's.
Lame. This is not an attempt to turn on Ron Paul
The man is not perfect. I and some others simply think he made a mistake on this vote.
What makes talking about this subject so uncomfortable to you?

Wow, 1 person eh?
As you can see from my initial post, I suspected that there might have been strategical influences at play...
But if he wanted to line up his strategy with his conscience, wouldn't an even better solution have been to just skip the vote altogether?

Of course. But murdering innocents...
which a government military tends to do a lot of, is a criminal act. How do you reconcile the two?
Murder?
I think you have to be careful with that term. Murder is intentional killing of innocents. If innocent people die as a side effect of killing non-innocents, that's not murder. For example, if a police officer kills an innocent while pursuing a serial killer, that's not murder. It's the same for military actions. There could be negligence, but unless innocent civilians were targeted it's not murder. Killing innocents, yes, but not murdering innocents.

Touché
thanks.
so there ya have it atrickpay...IS anyone else bothered
(presumably like they may be over Barr's vote on the Patriot Act & Iraq) by Ron's vote to go into Aghanistan? nope. Hope this has been helpful in some way.
Time to squash a troll
justcantgetenough praise's Eric Dondero. Eric is a fired assistant of Ron Paul. Justcantgetenough heralds this man as the end all to the argument that Bob Barr isn't as bad as Ron Paul. Eric Dondero is a god in the eyes of this Barr supporter. Eric Dondero praise's Ex-mayor Rudy Guiliani and calls him a true libertarian. Unlike justcantgetenogh I back up my claims with fact.

Justcantgetenough's role model everyone. His only leg to stand on in this argument. You are a troll. Now go to sleep.
You're wrong
I don't praise Eric Dondero. I disagree with Eric Dondero. If what he says is true, I think he should have left Dr. Paul alone so make the Constitutional vote. If what he says is true, then I CONDEMN Eric Dondero for causing Dr. Paul to vote to authorize Bush to invade Afghanistan.
Your analysis is totally wrong.

over to the Barr site and say "Your dog got in our yard again this morning".
As long as you don't support Barr
I'm happy. No Truthers allowed, and preferably no old overweights hags either.
