Write-In Votes? Ron says No
Submitted by Yvonne Kelly on Mon, 06/16/2008 - 16:43
In most states they won't even count them. Here's his quote:

Misleading title
Ron Paul didn't say "no". But someone put the words in his mouth anyway. That was ignoble.

I Have
I have a funny feeling Ron was pressured to end the race.
If a convention miracle and RP nomination doesn't happen,
I will very likely vote for Barr. I don't like some of the things in his voting record but why would he have quit the GOP and joined the LP if he still held those views? Dr. Paul seems OK with him.
New Hampshire and Ecuador
Won't count, or won't be counted?
Presumably by "it won’t count," he means that my write-in vote may not be registered as a Ron Paul vote. That would be unfortunate, as I would find the Ron Paul tally interesting, but I can accept it. What matters most to me is that I am counted as having voted, but having not voted for a Republicrat.
The idea is to reduce the winning percentage of the Republicrat. This means that I must vote. But who to vote for? There are only three alternative parties that have anything more than a laughable level of support in the US: the Constitution Party, the Green Party, and the Libertarian Party.
I can't vote for the CP until they remove all references to Harvey the Rabbit from their platform. Jefferson built that wall for a very good reason, and I like it just fine.
I can't vote GP because, well, the GP is the kind of party Democrats fantasize about, but only the ones with integrity actually vote for. The GP is the DP on steroids.
I'm not entirely thrilled with the LP, but I could vote for them if I could support the candidate in good conscience. Bob Barr has a history that makes me want to punch kittens. I suppose I could just ignore all that and take him at his word; after all, people do change, and it would be unfair to dismiss a person who genuinely saw the error of his ways and rectified them. Indeed, such honesty should be supported and even rewarded. But do I believe Barr? I'm not sure yet, but I've got my eye on him.
Then there's Nader the Independent, but I can't support his platform. Anyway, he's effectively nothing more than a rogue candidate; he'll sap a few green votes from the GP, both of which ultimately serve only to sap left-wing idealist votes from Obama.
Of course, that's all any of these options does: sap votes from Republicrats. The question is which one? I suppose if you were a "gun to my head = McCain" person, but didn't want to vote for him directly, you might choose the GP or Nader. If you're a "gun to my head = Obama" person, you might indirectly help him with a CP or LP vote. As for me, I couldn't care less which Republicrat wins. I'm a "gun to my head = pull the trigger" person, but I'd go LP on principle, which means that ultimately I suppose I'm a "gun to my head = Obama" person, at least indirectly, and paradoxically.
At any rate, that leaves a write-in vote for Paul, which I've intended to do all along, no matter what. At this point, the excitement has gone from the election for me; I'm open to pragmatism, within reason. If Paul endorses Barr, I'll pull the lever for Barr without making a fuss about it. If not, I'll most likely write-in Paul, just to say that I saw this thing through to the end.

This leaves me at a major
This leaves me at a major hurdle that I must seriously contemplate. I don't want the responsibility on my shoulders of having voted for ANY of the SHIT choices we have left. Now I am a man with a major problem. I do know I will enjoy the bumper sticker I print that says... "Economy bad? Can't find work? Lose your 401k? Government in your living room? IRS after you? School call child welfare services on you? Did your family die in the war to fight for all of the above to turn out as they did? Have you actually met one of these "terrorists" face to face yet on U.S. soil with a gun pointed at you telling you he is going to chop off your head? Did you fall for the lie like a good little sheeple? Don't blame me. I supported Ron Paul. Maybe you should "really" educate yourself instead of pretending you are....
A little big for a bumper sticker? Kind of. But I have about 8.5 square feet of tailgate in your face at a traffic light to put it on.
Maybe he will
get a nomination from the floor at the Convention. In Oregon we are getting ready for our District Convention on July 12 and the word from on high is "the fat lady has not sung". We are not giving up. RP knows what he is doing. Our group has been dealing with some lawyers about all this in Portland. If I find out more later tonight I'll try to get back. The amount of work going into all this is amazing.
Anyone But Obama and McCain
How is that. We can have our arguements about Baldwin, Barr, and Nader. Just pick someone else ON THE BALLOT in you state.
A vote for Nader does nothing for the Revolution (at best)
At worst a vote for Nader is detrimental to what we are trying to accomplish.
Votes for Barr or Baldwin will be assumed to be those of the Revolution. A potential "volume 10" noise maker. Votes for Nader will not be assumed to be votes from our voting block. Any vote for Nader will be muted; and the Revolution needs to make a statement on election day.
Even if Nader votes could be connected to the Revolution, would that really be a good thing? We do not want to be lumped in with the collectivist pinkos that make up Nader's core. That will hurt us w/ our allies in the conservative movement. And we will most certainly need those allies just over the horizon. Think about it.
Above alls, McCain must go down. We want to be there w/ a broom, dust pan, and super glue to help put the GOP version of Humpty Dumpty back together again.
Anyways me buckos, that be ScourgeOf7seas opinion of the situation as it appears currently. Arrrrgh.

"The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help'." -- Ronald Reagan
Here you go.....
This is what people will think the R3VOLUTION is if we vote for.........
a) Barr - People will think we were duped into voting for a former neocon drug warrior, and his sidekick neocon Root. Bad idea because Barr/Root getting a huge vote means the LP has been taken over and It's true message will be lost. The best outcome would be if the LP got LESS votes than usual, forcing it to go back to it's real Libertarian roots!
b) Baldwin - People will think that we are a mostly Christian vote, ultimately shutting the door on enough American voters that we will never win. Of course it is fine to be a Christian, but when you have freedom of religion in our constitution, you need to tread lightly with your own moral values. Plus, Baldwin has written contridictory articles about having a country whithout gambling and then talking about a country whithout an obtrusive government? Doesn't it sound like he might have some stronger beliefs about what we should do in our private lives that he's not telling us about?
c) Nader - People will think that we used logic, reasoning and compromise to reach a Peace agreement so to say, with competing political philosophies, so that America could at least get SOME of the things it most desperatly needs done! The establishment will crap their pants when they see that we are united and will not fall! They will also think that we are willing to discuss our differences in a peacful civilized manner.

Don't like Barr? No big deal....
Okay, then vote for Baldwin. Or write in Ron Paul if your state will count your vote (that'll be ScourgeOf7seas' first choice if available). Baldwin nor Barr are going to win anyway. The point is to send a message that the Revolution is and will be a force to be reckoned with.

I think it's a bit insulting to Dr. Paul to say only an idiot would vote for Barr, since Paul is encouraging him to run.

That is not an endorsement
In California, I can write in Ron Paul, and I will do so. I agree with the above post - what voting for each person would mean. The fact is, a vote for any of these other candidates will have the same effect as a write in vote - a NO vote on the two-party candidates. I know that the Libertarian Party is counting on a big percentage draw with Barr, but they had to sell out to get it. Barr is not, in my view, a very good libertarian.
Finally!
I already knew RP was gonna say that months ago. I knew that months ago when I was posting on this forum about Barr and other candidates. And I will be right again when RP gives an endorsement for Barr. Strategically, RP know that his Campaign for Liberty is where the "Ron Paul Revolution" will find a home. But Barr's campaign will be like a shadow mission that is secondary to the Ron Paul Revolution. The reason being is that McCain has to LOOSE this election in order for the GOP to be rebuilt with RP Republicans. Whenever the GOP or the Democrats loose a presidential election and loose control of the House and Senate, like the GOP is about to do, then that party goes through a "soul-searching" rebuilding phase. The Democrats went through that phase during the Reagan years in the 80s through the early 90s with George H.W. Bush.
So once the GOP goes through a re-building phase, neo-cons will slowly leave the party making way from Ron Paul Republicans. Ron Paul's Capaign for Liberty will ensure that. Bob Barr's WILL NOT WIN THE ELECTION, thank god, but he will at least give the final punch that will knock the GOP out of the ring by siphoning McCain's votes.
Voting for Baldwin is OK too even though he will won't be as successful. Voting for Nader or McKinney will actually help McCain. It also won't be recognized as a "libertarian" vote, thus the media won't know for sure how many RP supporters are actually voting for Nader or McKinney (or even Obama if some RP supporters decide to do that for some reason). If they vote for Barr, it will be symbolic of a "libertarian" vote, thus symbolic of the "RP message", even if Barr isn't as "PURE" as Ron Paul as is.
Who needs a "shadow mission"
when we can have the real thing. We already have a "shadow government". that is controlling everything so why support someone who is not completely aligned with the real mission. Makes no sense to me.
I think my post already
I think my post already explained the answer to your question. If you don't understand it then you really are stupid. Sorry for the personal attack, but there really are a lot of morons in this Revolution. I guess you and the rest of the morons need Ron Paul to make some kind of announcement that will tell you what to do because you don't deeply understand Ron Paul's ideology. Thats OK, Ron Paul will hold your hand and endorse Barr (and maybe Baldwin too) for you in a few months. And then this forum will be flocking to Barr like the sheep that they are.
Because I don't agree with you
you think I am stupid. Oh well, whatever makes you feel better about yourself is fine with me. All you have is an opinion, and you know the old saying about that. You know, where everyone has got one. If I were you I wouln't hold my breath waiting for the flocking to occur.

lol, you beat me to it...!
now we each need to figure out what to do.
this needs to be spread far and wide.

Successful confusion
It is sad and amazing that a once fantastically great grassroots, possessed of tremendous skills, strength, fortitude, and drive, has descended into a pottage of defeated and confused pawns of the establishment... Where is your thinking cap, your bravery, your intuitiveness, your guts, your cause?
You are not alone in the confusion surrounding the recent strategic announcements, but remember, you are an army few men history had at their disposal, one for which many have dreamed!
It is beyond reason that a people such as you, tried and true, non apathetic, truth lovers, who have been blessed with the vision to see the truth when spoken, to recognize freedom and liberty for it's blessed gift and inalienable source, would at once succumb to the siren song of malaise and weakness.
What I see, is not possible, and I tell you that you should suck up what energy freedom and liberty pours out for you, hitch up your trousers, and try with all your last might, until the next president is sworn in, to get the most righteous and perfect man for the job into the oval office... and failing that, follow that by lawfully removing the one who gains by deceit and perfidy.
You all know the man for the job, as he is the only one of such caliber to bless a campaign in over 100 years! You all know what needs to be done, and you all know that means he needs votes... at the national convention, and lacking that by write-in.
Write-in for every state is not prevented by the silly laws the states have set up, but you just need to have a more complete write in to include the position and other written data, which you can find under exceptions in each state's laws. To be able to write in a candidate has always been a right for the public.
To feel one ran the race to the end, climbed the muddy and steep hill to the top or died trying, is the only real task with which this great grassroots has been burdened; for it is your destiny to carry the hour, the day, the year, nay , the nation, for your families and your future families. It is what you were born to do at this time, it is what generations past have fought and died to pass on to you, for you are THAT GENERATION they have hoped for, and THAT GENERATION history will remember as THAT GENERATION who tried, and in trying, saved the hour, the day, and the nation!
Having done your best to accomplish the task to it's fullest, you will have done all God allows us, you will have the real measure of peace granted only those who endured to the end, who valued liberty above life!
"Suspicion is a Virtue, if in the interests of the good of the people." Patrick Henry
"We are not weak if we make a proper use of those means which the God of Nature has placed in our power... the battle, sir, is not to the strong alone - it is to the ... brave..."
Very well stated
I am hoping the confusion is a temporary condition that passes quickly. I do not see anything that has changed. It started out a Revolution with Ron Paul an elected official as a guide and remains so now with the addition of a greater momentum and the promise of even more people joining in. We do know the right man, at the right place at the right time for the job; I don't even know what the question is.
HOW ABOUT HAVING A SEPARATE ELECTION?
And make sure our votes are counted just to see how many people actually vote for Ron Paul.
Just an idea. Probably not realistic, though.

Consider 3rd Party in 2008
I believe votes of protest will be the real deal for 2008.
both of the major 2 parties need to get the message -
(as well as msm)
Chuck Baldwin is who I am most likely voting for -
check him out and the others also - and make up your own mind.
See you in Septemeber - MN.
And My Reason
for Consititution Party this year is all because of the Freedom Message.
Which is why I got interested this year in the first place -
hearing RP and his message - the CP is the closest I have found.
And of course CB is a mega supporter of RP.
This is what supports my decission to vote for CB.
(all about the message)
I am so over this whole vote issue
we are so past that now. Half of our votes last time probably didn't get counted literally. Everyone saw the machines at their best, the recounts, the boxs that were "sealed" and the ballots that were dumped. This Revolution will go on votes or no votes. I plan on staying the original course and not deviating off of it one bit. I am fed up with the whole scam system. My vote for RP if nothing else will be for me, a statement of my convictions so it will not be lost at all.
well said
I'm in 100% agreement. This has been a long fight and I defended him and spread his message for over a year. I knew I was voting for him no matter what happened. My vote is for the Revolution.
