What happened at the Texas convention!

Well sorry folks for not posting sooner being stuck in a room with big bugs and no internet .First let me say that Houston is not one of my favorite cities in fact its a toilet bowl its hot and smells and had a dark cloud hanging over it all the time we were there. Dallas is a much more classier town, thats where it should have been.Anyway let me start by sayn the first couple of days was a Repub love feast all the Texas bigwigs were there Rick Perry ,Kay Baily Hutchinson, But we had guite a few though not quite enough to do real damage although we got our licks in out of 46 delegates and 46 altes we atleast got 3 dels and 3 alts being sd 23 was dominated by r3VOLutionaries and possiblly even more perhaps even to 6 or 12 of us in there {It would be nice to here from some other Texans who attended to confirm }Being that we split into district to decide the convention delegates like Nevada. There was a total I would say of 5000 and about 1000 of us maybe a little more. I will let SGP get into detail or someone else more knowledgeable about that. Ill just stick to impressions.,I did manage to meet Ron Paul {and that was great}but Ill stick to the other details We had Kay Bailey Hutchinson say she was against the texas tran corider and planning to put up a fight for governor ,although she as full of horse shit as much as Rick "boss hogg" Perry is. .Little miiss lobbyist of the night is so full of it.We had a newt gingrich film where he premeired his new site.Which the motto that went something like "drill only in the states and pay less "which seems to make since but so did contract with America on paper .If you want to find out more about it is americansolutions.com.The thing I noticed how repubs are really in trouble this year. was there were only 5000 people there ,usually there is 10 to 13 thousand ,bet there was that many; at the Demoncats convention. And number 2 there was NO propaganda film ABOUT Mggruff the crime-dog I thought Debra did a great job and really let those cool- aid drinkers have it.We lost the state chair and lost the Neisous county delegates by technicallity of not sending a certified letter. The equivalent of a cop telling you that yes someone did break into your house but you didnt fill out the paper work properly. A real shaft what can you expect. I was one of those in a real out numbered district but we did manage to get one alt delagate.,I tryed to elect a very older gentlemen who was a Mccain supporter.because the day before I told him about mccslimball is attending LaRoza and he was shocked and so I gave him material but my nomination proved to be radioactive because everyone knew who I was and his wife ran against him also, so he only managed to get 2 votes out of 200, this has been a learnig process for me too.But I do have a little good news to share with you.I have been in close contact with a very important lady in our county she even sits on the rules comittee.of the state even being one of the ones who determined the fate of Neuses county..Now she is no revolutionary but i have often heard her say that she is really glad to have us Paulites but she just wants to lead us around with a dog collar and all 4s. Her husband feels just the same.Well we also elected what I might think is even more important than convention delegates we elected electorial delegates and guess what it was her husband. Now I am in close contact with her and we exchange e-mail alot I often send her things about how bad mccslimball is and she often agrees. So tonite I threw her a little scenerio to see if she would bite the hook I said this is GREAT your hubby being a electorial candidate lets just say the election came down to a virtual lock with both sides hateing each other so much that the only comprimise is Ron Paul.Well I do have some work to do because her reply was "and I quote" Whatever I guess you can dream tho Id dream Duncan Hunter ,Hugh? guess she still dosnt get it yetI am giving her a delegate dvd.I do beleive theyll look at it.

you might want to know?

Agreed

I couldn't agree more. I too was a delegate and was very disheartened by the whole process... But Dallas is a shit hole and the people are not half as friendly as the Houstonians.

I was there as a delgate and my husband

was an alternate (he was seated). We were both ashamed of our Party. It is definitely not what it used to be.

I agree with all of these postings and we felt the exact same way. We were under the radar the first and second day - but after that we decided to break free and show our revolution some love!

We only wore Ron Paul stickers, but it caused many, many folks to diss us and we heard several people make comments about us "Ron Paul radicals" and how we were trying to destroy the Party. I finally asked two older ladies (70ish) why they felt that way. I calmly explained that we loved our Party and asked them why they consider us liberal when our RPT platform is everything we cherish and stand for. They just stared at us like we were aliens and walked away. Sad, sad, day for freedom lovers.

When we were in our SD caucuses and voting for National Chairman - one man got up and said we should never vote for Perry because he was a Ron Paul supporter. He was a long time party man so everyone applauded him except for about 20 of us Patriots. It was very disheartening to see such sheep . . .

My husband and I only attended the General Sessions when voting or announcements were happening because after the first day and second day of sickening party rhetoric (say it but don't mean it) from all of the speakers - we just were not able to listen to the likes of Huckabee and the rest of the neocons any longer.

I must say that although I don't agree with Gingrich on most issues - he delivered the most detailed and meaningful speech of the week.

Seeing Dr. Paul, listening to his awesome speech and having him sign my book made the whole trip more than worthwhile!

We learned a lot about the "system" this trip and although it was a slimy experience most of the time - we will not bow down to their evil ways. This just made me and my husband more determined to fight the good fight.

See you all in Minnesota! I love my Country and Dr. Paul!

Shameful.

I was a delegate and could not believe the propaganda and lies promulgated in this farce. I was so proud of all of the Ron Paul patriots and it was shameful how we were shunned, silenced and disregarded. We did learn a lot and are getting stronger and stronger. I do believe we accomplished much, even though we were slaughtered in most of the votes, and have made them nervous enough to know we mean business in trying to get out the message of Liberty. Ron's speech on Thursday night was his best one yet and we all need to go to www.campaignforliberrty.com and sign up and get more motivated than ever! Our country and our freedoms are worth it, as are the countless lives being taken by our naked aggression which must stop!

My husband was a delegate

at the State Convention and said it was a real joke and farce. He was so disgusted with the whole thing by the way it was ran. We are in Dr. Paul's 14th Congressional District, in fact we live in Lake Jackson, Tx. The Thursday night Rally and Ice Cream Social that Dr. Paul held in the ballroom was great. I don't know exactly how many people were there, maybe 3 to 4,000 people or more. I haven't heard how many were there yet. I just know that he had a ton of supporters there cheering him on. However, the convention was another story and very disappointing.

Hey dodo!

Joke and farce are two very excellent ways to describe what went on at the Republican clubhouse last week.
Did you get any ice cream? I got a cookie. That place was packed with young people wasn't it? I was super impressed with the young people. I was the redneck with the yellow tractor on my gimme cap. Oh yeah, and holding a cookie.

Lotsa Luck to You and Yours.

Shameful is another

Shameful is another excellent description, at least of the behavior and attitude/mentality of the party faithful.

I posted some things I wrote about the whole ordeal, on the second page now, so I won't go into detail here. Needless to say even though I expected opposition to the Paul people I never expected that the people there would be so apathetic. They are supposed to be the ones most concerned, most active in the party.

Hey mack black,

I only described the State Convention that hubby told me by those chosen words. I'm afraid he said alot more about it but I'm afraid I can't say what he also said because I'm a lady and I will not repeat it. haha The ice cream was super but I didn't get to the cookies. I didn't see you because there were so many people there. How many would you estimate? I was very, very pleased with the crowd and I must say that the young people are so smart in getting Dr. Paul's message so fast. It's nice to see the younger crowd getting so involved in what's happening to this country. Dr. Paul has great messages and it's being heard all over the world. Dr. Paul knows what he's doing and I have complete faith in him.

DO RUN RON!!!!!

This is just a guess, but I

This is just a guess, but I figured between 2200 and 2500 at the ice cream feast. That's kinda conservative. I could be off. A couple of other fellas figured about the same number.
And yes, I've had to use great restraint not to use my typical oilfield vernacular to describe the C. R. A . P. that I experienced and witnessed. But hey, it's their club........For now.

Lotsa Luck to You and Yours

My son estimates about 3,000 or so

And he's usually right but so what? We just know that there was alot of supporters there and Dr. Paul's speech was fantastic! Did anyone buy or wear those red t-shirts they sold there for only $5.00? The front read "The GOP Rules" Let's follow them! www.fairconvention.org. The back had a nice long message that I wish the Rep. would read and follow. I think hubby wore his everyday. I saw alot of Ron Paul supporters wearing them and I bought a few also.

Well, it was frustrating,

Well, it was frustrating, disappointing, enlightening, and entertaining, all at the same time. I was the lone Paul supporter from my little rural county. Alot of us kinda flew in under the radar to get to the convention and the best I could tell there may be a dozen or maybe more delegates and alternates that are still flying low on their way to St. Paul. And good luck to them. The little party elites pretty well had the deck stacked, but there was Paulite opposition (although they weren't mentioned as or described as Paulites out in the open) for chairmanships and committee positions. These Paulites garnered about 1/3 of the vote over all, it seemed. It was said that we amounted to about 30% of the delegates in attendance. Everyone was well behaved as far as I could tell. No disruptions to amount to anything. I got the sense, from the party regulars that I visited with, that there was a real fear among them that " those Ron Paulites" were gonna be loud and disruptive troublemakers. I don't know if our behavior disappointed or relieved them. Maybe they were more confused than anything else. You get right down to it, for the most part, they didn't want us there and will be more than happy if we never comeback. But, inroads into the party were made, and if we are persistent, and a whole bunch of party regulars die off, the face of the GOP in Texas could change. But I tend to doubt it. The bigtime movers and shakers in the party have so much control.
You know how at these party events you would expect that every time McCain was mentioned as the nominee there would be a bunch of whooping and hollering and sign waving and stuff? Well, that was absolutley not the case at Houston. Whenever McCain was brought up in general session I would describe the response as moderate to light applause. Hmm... During the first 2 and 1/2 days I got along very well with the party regulars in my district caucus and was treated well. The last session of the convention, I put on my Ron Paul button and was definitely treated differently.
Oh yeah, and at the end of the last session on the last day, after all convention business was done, a delegate got recognized by the chair and commenced to ask that the man responsible for close to 1/3 of the delegates present be recognized, he was told that he was out of order and never got to mention Dr. Paul by name. Basically, the convention was then adjourned and the delegate's microphone was cut off. Dr. Paul's name was never mentioned in general session and I only heard his name once in a caucus meeting when some small time party hack said "that there was room for the Ron Paul people in the party if they will modify their ideas". Or in other words, compromise our ideals to the point that they are exceptable to the party elite. Mother McCain said we would have to hold our nose and vote for her boy. Being the ultimate Independent, I had to keep my nose pinched for three whole days (except for Dr. Paul's rally) just to tolerate the ovine in attendance and the party hacks leading the pep rally. It's my opinion, considering the attitudes that I encountered in Houston, and the behavior of elected Republicans in the past 20 years, that the best hope for liberty is probably for the GOP to go the way of the Whigs and a third party arise.
But, the most inspirational part of the whole thing was getting to see all the young people that Dr. Paul has brought into the process. And I'm gonna admit it right here. This 50 year old redneck got a little teary eyed just watching them participate.

Holding my nose too...

"Being the ultimate Independent, I had to keep my nose pinched for three whole days (except for Dr. Paul's rally) just to tolerate the ovine in attendance and the party hacks leading the pep rally."

It was all I could do at some point during the convention to maintain composure. There were numerous points during which I wanted to scream and yell at people.

After sitting there the entire time Thursday I didn't even go into the general sessions on Friday and Saturday until they started the actual meeting.

I didn't even heat Paul's name in the caucus meetings, but I didn't hear a lot of people bad mouthing him every time I went to dinner. Another difficult time to keep my composure.

On a more positive note

My wife and I were eating supper Friday night and had our Ron Paul buttons on. An attractive late 50 ish lady sitting alone at the table next to us struck up a conversation. She pointed to our buttons and asked us to tell her about Ron Paul. Come to find out, she was a retired history teacher and 30 year Republican Party veteran from Amarillo who had been a Huckabee supporter. She was a very nice lady and after a lengthy and thoughtful discussion, I believe we could possibly have a convert. I know this, Huckabee definitely lost a fan.
Also, I got aquainted with a delegate from Harris County who related that he and an older lady, who was a regular party member, got into a discussion on the first day of the convention that was kind of heated, at least on the lady's part and he calmly explained Dr. Paul's positions on numerous topics and advised her to check it out for herself instead of getting info from others. The next day he said he saw the same lady wearing a Ron Paul T-shirt.

How about that!

Agreed

If I had known about the Precinct thing I would've gotten involved 8 years ago.

Was at TX State Convention from Monday forward. Went to Platform instead of Rules, another mistake I'll know better next time. Rules are more important, you can even get platform ideas instituted as rules heh.

Does anyone know if there's video available of the speeches for purchase?

One thing was talking to some in my county delegation is, it would be GREAT if we could sit down and watch the speeches and stop them and talk about them. Maybe 1 or 2 nights a month, you've got to get to the Substance, Individually, without all the propaganda fanfare that sweeps them up into a mob mentality lemming dive.

Proud of my county. Can't believe we voted for Paul Perry, it wasn't till later that someone told me he was a Ron Paul guy. After I realized my county voted for a Paul supporter respect went way up. One of them is headed towards the electoral college as an elector, and another is a National Delegate.

I've got 2 years to practice the rules, and yeah should've started 8 years ago. Whole thing is really fun. Too bad things may collapse before we get another shot at it.

Way to Go!

IT'S DOABLE

Alpacas - IT'S DOABLE

Texas state convention

Texas elects national delegates in two ways. At the state convention we met in congressional district caucuses and elected 3 delegates + 3 alternates per district. In addition, the nominations committee for the convention nominated a slate -- I believe 35 del., 35 alt. -- which was "elected" by the main convention.

was there were only 5000 people there ,usually there is 10 to 13 thousand ,bet there was that many; at the Demoncats convention

I don't know whether 10-13k is quite right, but there is usually a higher delegate strength than 5800 or so, which is what the TX convention had this time. This was because the delegate numbers are based on votes for Rick Perry for governor, and a lot of people didn't want to vote for Perry. There were actually about 4k delegates + 1k alternates or so, there. Based on votes for our choice of state party chairman we might have had 1/3 of the people there, but that may have included some people who aren't Ron Paul supporters.

I would estimate that maybe 1/3 to 1/2 of the district-elected alternates going to national (not including at-large delegates) are ours, and a few delegates.

We also managed to get one of the head Ron Paul campaign members for Texas on the state executive committee.

Now she is no revolutionary but i have often heard her say that she is really glad to have us Paulites but she just wants to lead us around with a dog collar and all 4s.

There are some, I think, that are not this bad. A few of the 'establishment' people have actually been encouraging. One lady even gave a speech for one of our candidates for alternate in our congressional district caucus. The problem, however, is that even decent people like this do not know us very well because many of us are newly getting involved in the party politics. This means we need to STAY INVOLVED IN THE PARTY, get to know people, build their trust, and we will get EVEN MORE SUPPORT from even many of the established party people next time. This means find a good Republican candidate (e.g. for a local office) and campaign for him. Volunteer at some GOP office. Go to events. Get to know people and next time they will know they can trust you and support you.

Think about it -- we had a pretty amazing turnout at the conventions -- not just here in Texas but in other states, as well. 1/3 of the convention is not bad when for most of us it was our first time at a state convention! Next time we will know more, we will have more support, and we will have educated more people.

Revolutions take time -- stay in the fight.

your advice is absolutely spot-on

Familiarity is vital. Stick around and build relationships. People vote a lot more readily for someone they know than for someone they don't.
