I'm sorry but...

I'm getting tired of people getting excited over any article about Ron Paul by a MSM author regardless of its accuracy or bias.

Most of these articles are full of back-handed complements, loaded phrases, words with negative connotations, and misguided analysis.

What many of us fail to realize is that these articles leave the average American voter with a vaguely negative impression of Ron Paul and the liberty movement.

I like to compare it with a pool of water that it has been laced with just a little arsenic. The water may taste all right, but I would not recommend it for a regular source of drinking water.

And his "poll" is a classic example of the subtle warping of Ron Paul's message and his story with which they relentlessly marginalize him.

"His opposition to the war in Iraq"
One of his most controversial and misunderstood policies. (Especially with the old guard GOP/ Christian conservative voters that we are trying to enlist.

"Disaffected voters looking to send a message"
In other words, we don't really know what we are FOR (or don't see anything POSITIVE in Ron Paul's message) but we're just a bunch of anti-establishment types that want "change" for the sake of change.

"What Ron Paul Phenomenon?"
Need I say more?

"The appeal of a "straight talker"
The best option, but really underwhelming since every politician in the world claims to be a "straight talker", and nobody believes him.

I consider this "poll" to be a bad joke.

With "attention" like this, I think we'd be better off ignored.

"Ron Paul is now the champ"

The Real Ron Paul Revolution:

This above article even states, "Ron Paul is now the champ."

and

"Paul could well end up raising more than any of the other Republican contenders and providing the only serious competition for Democratic money leaders Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama."

What the hell happened? How come this was not all over the news at the time that it happened? Why am I just hearing about this now, when it's too late?

Looks to me like the Beltway is trying to figure out..

HOW to "fake us out" in the future.

By that I mean they want to "dissect" us, figure out what catch-phrases they can use to BS us into supporting THEIR candidates in the future.

Which means they don't have a clue... and really don't want one.

Very Insightful Observation.

That's a very insightful observation. To Ron Paul supporters, the reasons given in the poll are not even the top reasons to support Ron Paul, what they are is catch phrases that could be applied to other candidates, especially Obama:

"His opposition to the war in Iraq" - Vote for Obama

"Disaffected voters looking to send a message" - Now that the message is sent vote Obama / minority or disgruntled voters - vote Obama

What Ron Paul Phenomenon? - Obama is in the spotlight, vote for him

The appeal of a "straight talker" - Isn't this word-for-word, an Obama slogan?

:P

Where's the "support the Constitution" option in the poll, where's the "limited government option," where's the "abolish the Fed and IRS," option? Where is the liberty option?

They are not clueless, they are trying influence you!

Bad Choices

I may just be paranoid, but I don't trust the Washington Post as far as I could throw it (well, i guess I could throw a newspaper relatively far, but...)

They seem to want to pidgeon hole the movement into one of 4 acceptable categories - not letting people know that individual liberty is what it is all about. However, I guess any coverage is good coverage...

Straight talker is the BEST answer possible.

It has a double meaning, we like the straight talk, and STRAIGHT TALK is the MESSAGE that RON PAUL Gives each time he talks. MSM gets that, so does all the NeoCons... so choose number 4, "THE APPEAL OF A STRAIGHT TALKER".

Indeed, "straight talker" is

Indeed, "straight talker" is the best choice, it's the choice they want you to make, it's Obama's slogan.

Given the choices, I'm not

Given the choices, I'm not going to waste my 'time on this stupid poll. I mean,it wouldn't matter one bit of RP was a straight talker if he was a socialist like everybody else. I'm a RP supporter because he's the only one of the candidates who has taken the time to study what's actually wrong with this country, has decided that it's the Federal government, and would demand that the Federal government obey the rules, meaning the Constitution.

I agree

Yes, the poll is lame. And it's just on a blog section of the newspaper, so it's not as though the readers of the dead tree paper are going to see any serious discussion of Ron Paul.

+1

While the article acknowledges Ron Paul's strict adherence to libertarian principles, it does not recognize that to be the reason for his popularity.

What happened was that the debates and youtube gave Ron Paul a platform from which to make his philosophy and positions known.

As Ron Paul keeps saying, it's the message, and his success is directly proportional to how much his message reaches people (as long as they are white, male and hetero-sexual anyway - the correlation of message-reaching with popularity is not nearly as high with others).

Ha ha ha ha ha! Why?! Why does no one...

....seem to get the fact that the "old media" is using them to boost their revenues? It's simple ladies and gentlemen! The more web traffic the more advertising dollars. The more interaction/time spent on the page the more advertising dollars. The poll is lame! The author mentions who he believes Ron Paul is but does not list that as an option as to why he is a phenomenon. Dang! I thought we were fighting the "old media"? By all means, take the stupid poll and fund the enemy! RP was on morning joe, who by the way have smeared him at every occasion minus one visit early in the process, and the interviewers said it all. "You're great for ratings". Did the poll make you feel good? The "old media" thanks you!

hmm, of the choices given, I

hmm, of the choices given, I said the appeal of a straight talker.... because he tells the truth, he believes what he says, he stands on his principles and doesn't flip flop, he doesn't give us the same old rhetoric, he doesn't have special interest ties, he defends the Constitution like he's supposed to, he's genuine, etc.

4 milllion again...

Not 6 million. Why do they NEVER mention that he made 6 million in a single day?

I thought the record for

I thought the record for most money ever raised in a day was $4.2 million - set by Ron Paul, of course.

Where did you get the $6 million figure?

Chris Cillizza has no credibility

I've been following his blog on and off for the past year, and he's basically either ignored Ron Paul completely or belittled him any chance that he's had. I am abstaining from this poll because I refuse to give any support to his sham blog.
