Turn the TV Off...

Here's a quote from an article regarding the effect of television on our lives...it's appears to be brainwashing us.

""We are proposing that television as a simple constant and repetitive and ambiguous visual stimulus, gradually closes down the central nervous system of Man."

Becker holds a similar view of the effect of television on American's ability to think:

"Americans don't really think ─ they have opinions and feelings. Television creates the opinion and then validates it."

Nowhere is this clearer than with politics. Television tells Americans what to think about politicians, restricting choices to those acceptable to the oligarchs whose financial power controls networks and major cable channels. It tells people what has been said and what is "important." Everything else is filtered out. You are told who can win and who can't. And few people have the urge to look behind the images in the screen, to seek content and truth in ideas and look for a high quality of leadership.

Such an important matter as choosing a president becomes the same as choosing a box of laundry detergent ─ a set of possibilities, whose limits are determined, by the images on the screen. You are given the appearance of freedom of choice, but you have neither freedom nor real choice. That is how the brainwashing works.

"Are they brainwashed by the tube," said Becker to the interviewer. "It is really more than that. I think that people have lost the ability to relate the images of their own lives without television intervening to tell them what it means. That is what we really mean when we say that we have a wired society." "

Here's the link for the full article....long, but worthwhile, imo.

If you must watch it, avoid all news

Sit in a restaurant and eavesdrop/listen to the people who watch TV and read newspapers.

It is horrifying.

Good God, the commercials alone will kill you or make you want to kill yourself.

We have been married 37 years,

and only had a television set with tv for a 2 or 3 year period during that time. My husband wanted to keep it, although admitting that it controlled some of our family life, but decided we had to get rid of it, because he knew that it was the only thing that brought out my violent tendencies (of which there are none, cept towards the tv). I kept dreaming and day dreaming of shooting it to death. I always felt that it controlled our life around it, and also it tried to make us think a certain way, rather than thinking for ourselves. So, we did shoot it many years ago. We do have a tv set now, but no tv service, and now use it occasionally for movies, and school lessons, and musical instrument lessons. I recommend it to all with children to do away with it, or at least use it only for movies, (non hollywood). and other things.

I am sure people think I am daft

since I have large flat scren HD panel tv and no cable or other signal coming into it. Unforuntley I had not realized I was being neutralized by sports entetainment until after the purchase. I kicked all the sports programming a year ago and cable went this year.
The famly and I still enjoy the a movie now and then andoher dvds - but the mass media has lost its reach in my home.
The kids? They are doing great. My 5 yr old plays chess with her nine year old sister. That wouldnt be possible without kicking the cable.

Liberty = Responsibility

Liberty = Responsibility

Colbert Report and Daily Show

The biggest mass-hypnosis machine for the younger generation is coming from Comedy Central via Stephen Colbert and John Stewart. Both of these guys are Progressives and they instill in youth the belief that government is there to do everything for us: fix all our problems, provide food and housing for everyone, and change our diapers. People who watch these shows are also under the assumption that they are smarter/more educated than everyone else. It's the best mass hypnosis I've ever seen.

Register as Republican and Vote for Ron Paul

So true. It's really kind

So true. It's really kind of scary.

"There's somethin' happenin' here..."

Ron Paul

cured me of my tv addiction, now I'm addicted to Campaign for Liberty. Peace

Prepare & Share the Message of Freedom through Positive-Peaceful-Activism.

And what about the internet?

I seemed to be watching many youtube's and all kinds of stuff. Should that be tossed as well? If not, what's the dif?

Does my burka make my butt look fatwa?

I usually do not bother, but....

Who is this person? YouTube is not propoganda! Protect the internet, it is invaluable.
Fox News is not YouTube.

absofrigginlutely

I became a hypnotist at the same time I discovered Ron Paul. Coincidence, if you will. If you want to observe the greatest mass-hypnosis experiment ever perptrated on an unsuspecting populace, observe the television viewing masses. Once you turn it off for several WEEKS you begin to regain your ability to think critically. This is FACT - I am not making jokes. People actually believe thier OPINION is as valid as a FACT because the ability to reason has been numbed by televised hypnotic techniques.

Truth exists, and it deserves to be cherished.

i almost never watch t.v.

i almost never watch t.v. and it feels so great...

Have begun Weening myself off of the tube. It feels great.

Thank God

Thank God my parents didn't own a TV for the majority of my upbringing. I think they may have owned one once when I was very young, but even then you couldn't watch just anything. Now as an adult with my own child, it is my responsibility to pass that wisdom on. Even to this day I do not watch much TV.

Generally, I only find myself watching if I know Ron Paul will be on, or if I have a very specific reason having to do with research or learning more about our situation. One more thing: those of us who face our dire circumstances with courage, not turning away to live a life of convenience and ignorance, are a blessing to the world. We fight the depression and sense of despair that we sometimes feel knowing what we know, but our strength comes from a source that can't be controlled by the enemies of liberty and justice. Even in prisons we are able to liberate minds locked in the matrix using the power available to us.

I

Too did not have a TV for most of my earlier years.

Are we seeing a pattern

Are we seeing a pattern here? Those of us whose parents were smart enough to see something potentially malevolent in the unrestrained consumption of TV programming (even "age-appropriate" programming) have brought up children more prone to resisting the NWO. In contrast, those whose parents allowed them to watch as much TV as they wished are prone to sticking their head in the sand at the first sign of trouble. One thing I have noticed among hardcore RP supporters is a disdain for TV in general, and perhaps that's saying something....

I watched way too much TV as a kid

Fortune Favors the Bold

was even "raised by the tube" you could say... but by high school I had lost nearly all interest. These days, I can barely force myself to sit and watch a tv show, it's so passive... that said I am a fairly unique person

Fortune Favors the Bold

Unique Indeed

The fact that you had the innate ability to reject such programming by your teenage years does indeed show a uniqueness of character. I also find it difficult to watch TV in general.

I watched a lot of TV growing up...fortunatly i had my awakening. I only watch things of Humor and Cspan...and the occasional Fox or CNN to see what they are lying about today...Im like a dog now...i can smell evil.

Cancel your cable!

Watch dvd's from netflix.
Spend time with friends and family.Form a militia,grow a garden,invent an alternative fuel source, buy guns and practice shooting them,re read the declaration of independence and the constitution,read thomas paine's common sense and rights of man,learn to fish,learn to hunt,anything besides give your money to those who constantly marginalized the only true patriot running for president while constantly omitting the facts in favor of their globalist fascist slant on everything. They will not get my money anymore --I'm voting with my wallet.We should all be sounding the alarm to prepare for the coming economic tidal wave; we are just now seeing the tip of the iceberg.
Unfortunately we are in new territory and it may get very ugly.
Get rid of everything that you don't need and prepare for what is to come.
The sky is not falling but the dollar is.
Gas and food would not be going up if the dollar wasn't sliding to record lows--thank the fed and the politicians for this.
Some of you have heard this all before but the time is so near that I feel compelled to spread the message.God bless us all and good luck.

Interesting summary

.........and sadly, likely very accurate. As for the sky falling, that may be happening too with all these politicians talking about a nuke strike. Yes, getting very ugly out there. Everyone I talk to, the topic of conversation is always had bad things are right now.....and all I have to do is ask a person "how are things going?" The expression on their face tells all before they open their mouth. There a few exceptions, but seems very few.

How the hell have we gotten this screwed up! Don't answer that.

Bob W., Naples, FL

Please make sure that when

Please make sure that when you get into these conversations about how bad things are and are getting, that you interject that we are really building a movement that is going to change all this crap. We must know we are going to change it. They must know it too. Once most know it, it will change almost overnight. I see a BUNCH of evidence that it is already beginning to change. Let us continue to be firm and spread our resolve and understanding.

I haven't owned a TV

for 12 years now.
I won't have one in my house.
The only TV that I see is if I'm visiting friends.

i cut my cable 6 months ago

when i saw the propganda and the smear job they did on ron paul. the first few weeks were hard but life is so much better with no tv. netflix movies are an option.

Alternative

Ok, I agree as much as anyone that we need to shut off the MSM. They're corrupt and it's actually fairly provable that they're being manipulated if you compare the graphs of the candidates web traffic online compared to the MSM web traffic. They all follow similar dips and rises based on events except for Ron Paul's traffic rising even when the MSM shuts him out.

You can scream all you want that people need to shut it off...just change your whole lifestyle because the MSM is corrupt.

Usually when something is corrupt or worthless, the free market produces an alternative. Don't shout out that we need to stop driving if everyone drives SUVs, recommend a hybrid. Don't shout out that we need to stop voting because the Republicrats are corrupt...recommend a third party.

Instead of watching regular TV I recommend this as an alternative:
http://www.amazon.com/ZeeVee-ZV100-NA-ZvBox/dp/B0018L7NUA/re...
The ZeeVee ZvBox. You plug one end into your computer and another into your TV. You still have all of the same TV channels of your old school TV but you can also change the channel to your ZV channel. From there you can watch Internet TV. There are a few sites out there that provide their own content. You could even just drop your cable and solely watch your ZV channel.

I'm in no way affiliated with the ZV device, nor do I own one but I see it as a good first step toward every day americans having an alternative to their corporate TV stations. This is something I could set up for my mom and she wouldn't have to become a computer geek to use.

I'll definitely be buying one of these, or hopefully a competitor will come out with one as well. But I see this as the future of our TV viewing as a nation.

I don't have a TV at home since years

and I don't miss it at all.

Dr. Paul cured my apathy

Ron Paul was right

Exodus

Besides turning off the TV, get your children and friends children out of the government "public" school system. The government control of education is the garden of American's misery.

Culture is Religion externalized.

I stopped reading when I read

"It seems that we Americans are getting progressively more stupid. They note a decline in reading and comprehension levels in all age groups tested. Americans read less and understand what they read less than they did 10 years ago, less than they have at any time since research began to study such things. As for writing skills, Americans are, in general, unable to write more than a few simple sentences. We are among the least literate people on this planet, and we're getting worse."

That's total b.s. That is totally unscientific and there is no way to test it properly. Especially when they try to say we're the least literate people on earth. Really? Because there are quite a few countries in the world where only around 30% of the population can read. Also, they're implying that we're so stupid because we watch so much tv and yet they have no evidence to back that up except opinion which, in the article, they scold us for listening to too much opinion!

Here are some stats you might find of interest

Of course, Dr. Paul wants to get rid of the Department of Education, and when you look at the amount of money spent on education in this country, we should rank much, much higher. These results do not look favorable to the US on the world scale.

For more information on the NAAL, go to http://nces.ed.gov/naal.

In the International Adult Literacy Survey (IALS) assessment, 1994-98:

The average composite literacy score of native-born adults in the U.S. was 284 (Level 3); the U.S. ranked 10th out of 17 high-income countries;
The average composite literacy score of foreign-born adults in the U.S. was 210 (Level 1); the U.S. ranked 16th out of 17 countries.
(Sum, 2002, p21, Table 12)

In the International Adult Literacy Survey (IALS) assessment, 1994-98:

The mean prose literacy scores of U.S. adults with primary or no education, ranked 14th out of 18 high-income countries;
The mean prose literacy scores of U.S. adults with some high school, but no diploma or GED, ranked 19th out of 19 high-income countries;
The mean prose literacy scores of U.S. adults with a high school diploma or GED (but no college), ranked 18th (tie) out of 19 countries;
The mean prose literacy scores of U.S. adults with 1-3 years of college, ranked 15th out of 19 countries; and
The mean prose literacy scores of U.S. adults with a bachelor's degree or higher, ranked 5th.
(Sum, 2002, p19, Table 11)

IT'S DOABLE

Alpacas - IT'S DOABLE

Thanks for the stats

While we are low ranking (as your statistics have shown) among 20 or so high-income countries, that is the difference between 97% literacy and 100% literacy. I mostly have a problem with the article making statements like, "most Americans can only form a few simple sentences," because it's a fundamental fact of language that humans can form infinitely long sentences in their native language.

I gave up TV 16 yrs ago. I

I gave up TV 16 yrs ago. I stopped reading this article when it started making this all about TV being anti-christian. I get tired of that slant.I do believe that what is going on on the planet is anti-human, anti-enviornment, anti-spiritual. That encompasses a lot more than just Christianity. This article implies that the TV has falsely created environmentalism. I say TV and government have falsely created messed up "too little, too late" laws that step on our rights and actually HINDER us from doing what's needed to take care of enviornment.Most people want to take care of this planet and if we could live a full life without polluting the planet I believe my fellow man would opt for that.(example: bring out the sustainable renewable non-polluting energy resources that have purposely been suppressed)
