Gold/Silver or Ammo?

For those who may be better informed than me....I currently have about 25 ounces of silver and 80 rounds each for my handgun and rifle.

For the roughly the cost of ten ounces of silver I can get 1000 rounds for my rifle, and a little less for my pistol. I'd like to do all three, but just can't right now and must choose only one.

Seeking opinions, thanks.

I would hold the silver

Hold the silver, word is, it is very close to a serious uptrend. Estimate is within the next three to six weeks for it to begin the upward trend. Especially now that the heat is on the bogus paper ETF trades with no silver to back it. That is a huge factor in what has been holding the silver market down and far too much to explain here. Now that the heat is on them, they seem to be laying off on the market manipulation and bogus sales knowing they are under scrutiny. The 200 day moving average is close to meeting the bottom silver prices, The 100 day is above the current price. If the DOW continues to tank, and oil continues to climb, combined with the banks indicating more losses and failures and the dollar fallling, your silver is gonna be worth a lot more very soon. All the predictions are as much as $25 per ounce by the end of the year. My humble guess is we will be at or have touched $29 by the years end. I am not the metals wizard, but I think I am probably pretty close. It is not solely my opinion, it is a combination of many people's outlooks, lots of charts, and lots of news and manufacturing developments. There are many other factors I am adding in to my guess, far too many to type here. The charts I have been receiving are getting me all fired up to buy more and I can't because I want that one more hard pullback to buy in.

Market is already tight bigmike -- don't wait too long.

I know you are right Lisa

This is probably the toughest "wait for the right price" period I have gone through yet. I'm actually nervous that even my estimates on the uptrend time may turn out to be too conservative or light. I am a bit shaky about missing the right time to buy more for the first time in a good while. I have a few bars in now from 16.55/oz. all the way to one "speculation priced" bar at 20.95/oz. I buy and sell daily whenever the market permits. I watch the charts and market news all day long here at home everyday until the market closes even checking in on the overseas markets at night, lol. I am on the phone with Monex at minimum 3 times a day. That's how I make any income I get right now.

I know of a guy in Vancouver who was told he'd have to

be put on a waiting list and, even then, the dealer couldn't guarantee delivery.

Silver

You have enough ammo to defend your life and what wealth you have in the near term. I agree with Lisa.

Maybe a better question is:

Should I buy ammo now with depreciating dollars or trade those fiat dollar in for something that will hold its value.

How many rounds of ammo could you buy if your silver was worth $500/$1000 an ounce?

Ultimately, you know your situation, we don't.

ammo

Can't eat silver. Ammo will get you what you need in tough times.

more silver, the chances you

more silver, the chances you will need the ammo are very very slim.

Even if things get bad, it will not result in WWIII.

Does everyone think things are

going to get really bad within the
next year?(just checking)

Really bad? Or just worse

Really bad? Or just worse and worse?

The price of a a lot of things isn't being effected too much. But Gas is outa control. The Dollar is directly connected to the value of the oil. So when Bush wants money for the war... Dems say, "no we need money for domestic spending..." Republicans say, "okay but give us the war funding.", and the Dems say, "okay deal!" and the amount Bush originally asked for increases. They send the bill to the FED, the FED prints the money and now it takes more of them to buy a gallon of gas.

Before I got my stimulus check gas was under 4 dollars, now it's 4.25. So essentially your stimulus check is a gas check. Hope you didn't spend it all in one place.

Keep in mind that every time they approve spending they are sending the bill to the FED and devaluing the currency. Every nickel they spend brings us that much closer to disaster.

Some say around

Sept. it could start accelerating. If you watch the news there is still a lot of hot air holding up the economy. Peace

Thanks to all who replied so far...

Wow, so much pertinent info....this is what I really like about DP!

Calibers are 7.62x39 rifle, 9mm Luger pistol, been hitting the range about once a week since March.

2000 rounds?...I've only read recommendations of 1000. Any tips on getting my wife on board? She's not happy that I'm even buying and training to use firearms.

Gotta go for tonight, I'll check back in the morning.

You all give me much to consider, thanks again :)

ahh so you have an ak...

ahh so you have an ak... good choice.. the ammo for this is cheap with the russian surplus compared to my .223 or my 308.. I would just buy as many rounds as you can.. don't forget magazines.. the pistol i would say get 500 cheap full metal jacket rounds to practice with a buy 500 federal 125 grain hydra shok for using if you have to defend yourself..

Been doing business here for a while

But then, I have a current C&R license and had an FFL for a while, so I;m sure to be on their list.

If you're not

If you're not self-sufficient right now. I'd worry about that first. What if you had to pack only what you could carry or load in the car and had to get out of town quick? What would you take? What do you need? How long will that last?

What is the caliber

of your rifle and pistol?

You may want a fishing pole

if you live near water. A water filter, food supplies, seeds there are a million things that you might need. If the market unwinds is your house paid off, car, bills? Don't put all your eggs in one basket. If they confiscate guns, and your gold and silver maybe you would be glad to have bow and some arrows. Think variety it will come in handy for bartering. Just my two cents.

Also good

advice and worthy of consideration.

Don't you just wish they

Don't you just wish they make real silver bullets :) Anyway, I am going to get a lever action rifle with my stimulus check...preferably a .357 may settle with a 30-30.

ammo will trade and be worth

ammo will trade and be worth quit a bit! you will be able to trade it too.. whare do you live??

as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD

I agree with that principle, as do most of the

schools of survival. Ammunition (liquor also) is a very barterable commodity in times of panic. If you can manufacture your own ammunition, you are also ahead of the game. The basics for doing it are not terribly expensive, depending upon desired production quantities and how many popular calibers and bullet types that you wish to accomodate. Like anything else, education is key. Stock for your personal consumption first (food, water, ammunition, etc), then concentrate on potential barter items.

Hi Sierra

I find your posts informative. I'm in Pennsylvania, hence my username ;)

I'm thinking this month rifle ammo. Next month pistol ammo. Third month, more silver. We should be OK for food and water. If I were really bold I'd use the 0% credit card offers and stock up on all three, but my wife would have a cow! :)

I'm a fairly new gun owner and the 1000 rounds each would be a reserve, in addition to what I buy to train with.

I would buy the ammo , rifle

I would buy the ammo , rifle first, then pistol.. 1000 rounds is not very much . if you have food and water thats GREAT! that should be your first priority,( medecine 2) next is personal protection then the silver.. buy as much ammo for rifle as possible.. 2000 rounds per each rifle.. then 500 rounds per handgun.. then your silver.. now if your a faily newbe in becoming a rifleman you need to get with someone who can teach you basics.. you just can't pick up an ar15 and think your rambo.. you need some training..
if thats the case and say you have an ar.. 1000 rounds minimum to train and 2000 saved..hope this helps.. if you would like email me!

Depends

Ask yourself what you are preparing for, if it is a financial system meltdown then guns and ammo will be good to have but you might want to consider food. Barter is great but you need to work from a position of power, have your needs met and be able to walk away. If you have to trade a gun or some ammo due to a food shortage brought on when the SHTF that would be bad. Think food and think what kind of food. You can do MRE's or caned stuff or you can go old school, get wheat, beans, salt, rice and such. Hard thing about that model is you should be rotating/consuming your stock and you would need hardware to prepare it. You can find lots of good information on this site, just brows the popular threads from a few months ago.

Something I like to ponder, what is worth more when you are starving, your house or a car?

If possible try to do both, but

I'd go with the ammo...Life before property
