URGENT URGENT URGENT - read ASAP (July 8th)

The US Senate is about to vote on it's version of HR 6304 - the FISA Amendments.

What does this mean to you?

This bill will allow the President, any president, not just the current one, to tap YOUR phone for ANY REASON he or she thinks fit. This is Soviet era style stuff here folks. There will no longer be ANY law stopping the President from tapping the phone or internet communications of ANYONE they want. So if they don't like you, if you disagree with their policies, if you don't support the taxes they want to pass on you, or mandatory government healthcare, or to take your guns, or your kids, or force you to be vaccinated with experimental drugs, or if they start another war you disagree with, or simply because you didn't vote for them, they can tap your communications and store it for any purpose or use they want.

AND the telecom companies will be immune from lawsuit for doing the dirty work. Retroactively. That means they can't be taken to court, even for what they've already done.

Folks, this isn't about catching terrorists. It's about convincing you to give up all right to privacy. It's about FEAR and INTIMIDATION. Even your non phone conversations may possibly be 'tapped' due to their ability to remotely turn on devices like cell phone and OnStar microphones.

This is serious people.

Call your Senators NOW and tell them to vote NO on the FISA bill.

Spying is an act of war. Spying on the American people is treason. This bill is a declaration of war by our government upon We the People. Anyone who carries out this spying is a traitor and is guilty of treason. Let's not go down this path. If you want to see where it leads, read about Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, Pinochet's Chile, Mugabe's Zimbabwe, heck even Saddam's Iraq.

This is also an act of Treason by Congress if it passes this bill. Treason is defined by the Constitution as "giving aid or comfort to the enemy, or making war against them [the several States]."

If the terrorists hate us because we are free, I can't think of a better way to give them aid and comfort than to take away that freedom from the American People. (I've already covered the making war
part)

Ever wondered how good people in countries with horrible dictators allowed such things to happen? You're living it. This is one step in that process used every time.

ALSO -- AND JUST AS IMPORTANT

There are two resolutions, one each in the House and Senate up for a vote today.

H.R. 362 and S.R. 580

These resolutions call for a full naval blockade of Iran. Iran exports crude oil and imports refined gasoline, diesel, and other petroleum products. This blockade calls for preventing ALL refined products from being shipped back to Iran. It calls for strict inspection (which would require boarding and detaining every ship) of all ships entering or leaving Iranian ports.

This is an act of WAR against Iran. They will not take it lightly. Iran has vowed to shut down the Persian Gulf access in the Straits of Hormuz if any forceful actions against them are taken. If you think Oil and Gasoline are expensive now, wait till this garbage passes the Congress. The article below estimates from $200 a barrel to $500 a barrel. Think you can stand that?

At a time when Israel is threatening to strike Iran if we don't, and when Russia and China have warned of an all out war with them if we or Israel does so, and when both the White House and Tehran have decided at another round of diplomacy, is this the message we want to send to the world? Do we really want to pick this fight now?

Call your Representative and Senators NOW and tell them to vote NO on these resolutions.

Made the call

In God We Trust!

Just made the call to Senators Kennedy and Kerry of MA

Both are against this despicable FISA Act
Kennedy however can not vote because of his health.

I gave them both barrels and asked that they would please pass along my devotion to the constitution and my emotion towards those dirtbags who are doing their all to remove our liberties.
They will not succeed!
They need tar and feathering, literally! And then shipped to......the moon?
Without any suits of course!

Hey! Make your calls and post back here!

There are over 60 people on here---let's make a difference today!

Done.

Done.

Done

I contacted my bad elected officials. I really don't think it does a bit of good. Unfortunately. Our politicians basically represent themselves, not us. Being an elected official should not be so lucrative. We have screwed by letting them decide what they make, how stupid is that.

FanofWalt posted a clarification on the other FISA thread

That the FISA bill itself, has some good amendments to comment on, so the part to be adamantly AGAINST is the FISA AMENDMENTS ACT!
So in this case it is better to state what part you are against, not that you are against the whole bill.

Not just "NO" but "YES," "YES," "NO," "NO"!!

I just realized Jkap's link is the same link I've been posting, but I'd like to make clear that not only does that link help you easily reach your senators, it also points out that there are two portions of the bill we want senators to vote YES on, as well as two portions we want senators to vote NO on. There's also a handy-dandy script for you to use, if you like.

Here's the linky again

Vote "YES" on the Dodd-Feingold amendment, which would strip telecom immunity from the bill entirely.

Vote "YES" on the Bingaman amendment, which would delay implementation of telecom immunity until after Congress has received the Inspectors General report on the president’s warrantless surveillance program.

Vote “NO” on the cloture motion to end debate on the FAA,

And finally, vote "NO" on the FISA Amendments Act, an unconstitutional and dangerous bill that would radically expand the president's spying powers and immunize the companies that helped him break the law.

See, now this is a problem

We all really need to investigate and know what we are talking about for ourselves. Fortunately, I did explain my position and hopefully they will figure out what I meant. Why do these bills have to be so complicated. I really detest the way Congress works. In the first place, they have way, way too much on their plates because they are doing things they should not be doing at all. There is no way for them to do an honorable job. It is almost no wonder their are Barr votes going the wrong direction, but then he has a hard time having to admit he didn't know what he was doing.

Complicated by intentional design

Why do these bills have to be so complicated? They don't. They're complicated by design.

A bill about "X" is about to go to vote. Congress Critters recognize that "X" is a popular/big/important bill, and will likely go through. So they quickly add "riders" to the bill to get their pet projects through, even if their pet project ends up invalidating another part of the bill.

Multiply that process times the number of legislators with their own agendas. Voila: complicated bills.

I know

why in the world do we allow them to work this way? It is idiotic.

Called my Senators

I used the "contact congress" widget at the top left column of www.DailyNewscaster.com to find the contact info. Entered my zip code "bam' had names and numbers.

In summary?

What? We want them to vote against are Senate Bills 2248 & 580, House bills 6304 & 362.

Is that the short and sweet of it??? Why can't they just call them by the same numbers?

It is important that you let them know your are knowledgeable

about the bills, so have a short comment when you call or write about the effects of the bill. It is better to do a separate call for each bill. The number is not that important if you know what the bill is about.
The FISA Amendments Act has already sneaked by in the House when the public was more concerned with Brittney Spear's sister having a child, or the "earthquake" in China, or something. So we MUST get it stopped in the Senate!

Here is wording to use--I faxed this to my Senators yesterday

If you live in my state please change it before sending to the Senators, otherwise, just copy and paste if you like it.

Dear Senator,

I understand a vote is expected early this week on another terrible piece of legislation in the U.S. Senate called the FISA Amendments Act.
This grossly unconstitutional piece of legislation would enable the President, acting through the Attorney General, to spy on the people of the United States (including physical searches or homes and workplaces) without a warrant.
It would also provide full retroactive amnesty to lawbreaking telecoms, thus forever putting an end to any efforts to investigate and obtain a judicial ruling regarding the Bush administration's years-long illegal spying programs aimed at Americans. There are currently lawsuits in the courts regarding this illegal and unconstitutional spying, and these citizens have a right to address these matters in a court of law.
You took an oath of office to Protect and Defend The Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic. It is a travesty that our elected officials are now assaulting the constitutional rights of U.S. citizens using the use of the word “terrorism” to justify their illegal and unconstitutional actions.
The FISA Amendments Act is an outrage and an assault on our freedoms and the Constitution. I urge you to vote against it.

Is there actually an advantage

to talking to them about it??? I just tell them how I want them to vote. I hope they know what is going on and the pros and cons and whys and wherefores. I know that is NOT true, but nothing I say will get read, I figure.

I think there is an advantage because----

We need to let THEM know that WE know that what they are doing is UNCONSTITUTIONAL! They should be more concerned with the word "treason" than the word "terrorism" that they are using as an excuse to commit treason! I ALWAYS remind them of their oath of office to Protect and Defend the Constitution of the United States of America---and that means that they are to protect MY 4th amendment right.

What is the number

What is the number for the Senate bill for the FISA legislation?
