McCain Silences Librarians

Which is why we need to be educating people for the next 100 years. This population did not go downhill overnight. I would suggest that most of our problems really started right around the WW2 era. Mass media was just coming into its prime, which has enabled the mass mis-education of the population. Public education by that point was the norm, which has enabled "them" to get their hands on the minds of little children as soon as they are old enough to start thinking critically.

Until we control the education of our own children, and until we can educate the masses of misinformed people, nothing will ever change.

"She advocates dirty books," is what the townspeople say, misunderstanding that what she really advocates is the right of people to decide for themselves what to read. You can see why they're confused.

Take-a-little, tax-a-little, take-a-little, tax-a-little, take, take, take, tax-a-lot, take a little more. That's what the voters want from government.

Miser Madison of the Madison public library, foundling hospital and all his other charities, some consider a dirty capitalist.

Yes, easy to confuse the two. Librarians are at the forefront of defending free speech. Paradoxically, they're used to raise more tax money (we must fund the library!), but the first to have budget cuts.

Miser Madison, the wise old bird, "gave River City the liberry building, but he left all the books to her!" Now there's an argument for privatizing liberrys.

The Music Man is a great libertarian musical, with gullible and incompetent public officials, gullible and silly voters, and a fraud who learns to take responsibility and live up to his obligations. Oh, and a librarian who longs for a white knight (Ron Paul, anyone?) and settles for a real person.

Ron Paul, himself, is uncomfortable being a white knight. As he says, this isn't about him, it's about the message. We can't count on one man to solve all our problems. The price of liberty is eternal vigilence, not a single hero.
