Congressman Ron Paul Has Won 50% of the Straw Polls!

Most of the time when Dr. Paul is covered in a news success story, there is usually a tendency for the reporter or blogger to mention that Ron Paul is low in national polls. The implied conclusion from this data is that Rep. Paul has a very slim chance of winning the Primaries in any way with Republican voters. Yet, I find it interesting that Congressman Paul has won 20 of the last 40 straw polls around the country, which is more than any other GOP Presidential candidate.

Why is it that the mainstream media hasn't reported on this intriguing feat? I'm sure many of you have your suspicions, as I do, but to me, this is such ignorance on the media's part. Supposing that Giuliani, Romney, McCain, or Thompson would have this many wins in straw polls, the media would be eating it up, most assuredly! I can immediately think back to an MSNBC online story where they mentioned in their headline that Romney LOST the Conservative Leadership Conference straw poll (coming in 3rd Place), rather than mentioning the winner, who was none other than Dr. Paul! This is just poor journalism, at best, and blatant ignorance, at worst.

To date, I have not read one article nor seen one news story that even mentions this uncanny success of Dr. Paul's campaign. These straw polls do necessarily reflect the support of likely GOP Primary voters, but the media seems strangely amored with landline phone- based national polls, many of which do not even list Congressman Paul as a viable candidate! This must come to an end, my friends.

The question I pose to you, my fellow Ron Paul revolutionaries, is how and what can we, as his supporters, do to bring this information to the public. If Mike Huckabee can get major media attention for coming in SECOND place in the Ames, Iowa Straw Poll (I know, they used Diebold Machines.) as well as SECOND in the Values Voters Straw Poll in D.C., then how much more should Rep. Paul with his 20 FIRST PLACE finishes? The mainstream may try to discredit Dr. Paul's online poll success with "spamming conspiracy theories," but how can they explain his state-to-state straw poll wins conducted in public? For the media to disparage those results, it would require them to engage in a conspiracy theory of epic proportions.

And consider the REST of the pie

If Ron has finished 1st place in over HALF of the Straw Polls, how does that pie breakdown in what remains as obviously no "one" other candidate has the entire other 1/2. I think this is also important for perspective...

I just took action

I just sent a letter to the editor of The Purdue Exponent (we have like 45,000 students!), because in their October 4th issue they left him off the list of republicans in the primaries. Here it is:
----
There has been an astounding quantity of media coverage for the 2008 Presidential Election, and rightly so. This is one of the most important elections in history. The Exponent, like many other media outlets, has chosen to ignore Congressman Ron Paul in favor of the media favorites from a few nationwide phone polls. To date, Ron Paul has won 20 of 40 straw polls across the nation. According to real-time viewer polls, he won the MSNBC and FOXNews Republican debates. His ideals of personal liberty, small federal government, and non-interventionist foreign policy continue to unite voters across party lines. My question: Why does his massive grassroots support base get ignored in favor of buzz-name candidates with no real platform like Rudy "9/11" Giuliani?
----

I recommend everyone do something similar in to their own local news. Stand up for your candidate! Let Ron Paul be heard!

Polls = propaganda

Edward Bernays (father of public relations) can give you an inside on how the media is using the "polls" as a way to encourage/discourage groups to accept or not an idea or person.

The polls are design to see Dr. Paul fail and it is naive to think the military industrial complex will not use their corporate control media. The MSM = elite media for propaganda.

Cheyenne, WY Straw Poll Vote Percentage?

I've been trying to find the percentage of votes that Congressman Paul received in the Laramie County GOP Straw Poll, but with no success. I heard he won by a landslide, but I don't know what the numbers are. Any help?

Sorry to take so long to respond

On Oct 28th, Ron Paul and Duncan Hunter spoke at the Laramie County Republican Party dinner. They were introduced by our two US Senators.

Results of the straw poll:

Ron Paul 49
Thompson 25
Hunter 15
Romney 14

He got roughly 48% of the vote. But I can't say the percentage
accurately because the officials only reported the top 4 results.
McCain, et al, also had buckets for votes, but I don't know the
numbers.

I have contacted the official campaign with this information so that they can fill in the results on the campaign website.

Congressman Paul's Straw Poll Results

By the way, you can view Dr. Paul's current straw poll results and head-to-head records against the other GOP candidates at:

Enjoy!

Amazing I've never heard that once

in the news.... Yet, everryday I hear Hillary went to a college... Guiliani likes the Red Sox....etc..etc... The people that do participate in these polls are ingrained with this stuff...they really have no idea and thats why it's so important we get out in our neighborhoods, at work, at the ballpark and engage in conversations with as many people as we can. Otherwise, even if we post all the signs, and wave on the corners...they'll still be saying to themselves...'theres those crazy Ron Paul people'

There are a few whackoes out there

and don't try to convince them. Don't waste your time with angry brain washed useless idiots. Just throw something very bad about his preferred candidate so he won't even vote. Converting most people to our side is easy once they hear the message.

Yerrrrrrrrright!!!!

yep,

gotta engage 'em else yer a wacko. I hide behind slim jims myself, kinda back off while they read it, then quietly say, ok, what DIDN'T you agree with?

Is that a good strategy? tips?

You DO hear about Clinton

You DO hear about Clinton because the media has chosen her as their candidate.

You DO hear about Guliani because the media knows that their candidate will mangle him.

You DO NOT hear about Paul because the media knows that he is the only Republican who can beat their candidate.

If Paul is NOT the Republican nominee, you can safely tune out until the media celebration of Hillary's inaugural address (if you want to witness the death of your future).

focus

Its the votes that counts -- that's the bottom line.

Suppose MSM is biased (you better believe it and get out of denial) and loaded against RP, what can we do?
1. redouble our effort to disemminate his messages
2. donate our money
3. awaken our brothers, sisters, friends, colleagues, neighbors, partners, acquaintances, etc, etc. to RP's message, doing whatever we can do
4. participate in meetup activities
5. vote on primaries and caucuses
6. make videos
7. read up on the issues and on the books.
8. get in touch with our fellow citizens
9. etc., etc (I'm sure we can continue to be creative like we have been so far...as RP supporters).

Ron Paul ahead of the others

Any way that the lack of reporting now helps us with turn out during the primaries? I say this because us Ron Paul supporters are dedicated and will show up to vote. Where as a lackluster supporter of another candidate may not show up to vote in the primaries.

Once Dr Paul wins the first couple of states the media will follow.

Good question

you might be on to something. Similar to the fact that Paulistas are the only people at fairs etc. The other candidates well, basically, they suck, and they have pretty lackluster support.

That being said, it doesn't take much effort to punch a chad.

But...voters will see our support

However, the more bunper stickers, yard signs, bill boards, t-shirts, campaigning at events average voters see us and the Ron Paul name the more legitmate we be come in their mind and the easier it will be for them to vote for Ron Paul.
