I now understand part of his plan is to mandate wind power through the Federal govt. Now this is better then mandating ethanol, but not the idea way to go about it. He is investing alot of his money and part of the plan is to get many billions from investors once regulation is relaxed.
30,000+ have signed up so far. Pauls opinion would really help.
The idea that we can tear up the whole Appalachian Mnts to get at our huge coal reserves is not logical. Same with oil shale. I also think the offshore and Artice oil amount is greatly overstated for political reasons.

Wind produces electricity, but we import oil for vehicle fuels.
We'd all be better off investing in Sustainable Power Corp's biocrude production company. We have the ability to create vast amounts of biofuels using waste organic matter. What's even better is that the process runs it'self off it's own nat gas byproduct, and the only thing you could call a waste product is a 7-3-7 organic fertilizer. It doesn't get any better than this. Why try to rebuild the entire liquid combustible fuel delivery infrastructure to hydrogen or nat gas when Sustainable Power has the liquid fuel solution.

Doesn't anyone believe in FREE enterprise?
I can't help wondering why nothing happens in this country anymore without raiding the public coffers. It used to be that a good idea would find funding by people who believed in it enough to risk their capital and then they could reap the benefits when the profits came in. Why does every business venture today look to the taxpayers to fund their high risk projects, and there is never any reciprocal proofit to the public treasury? It is immoral and makes no more sense than any other frivolous plan to spend other people's money. If you want to invest in this, you are free to do so. But you have no right to tell me or your neighbor that, because the majority agrees, my money will be used against my wishes.
The whole scheme is Paulitically incorrect.

HYDROMAN
Yes, as long as the government ( taxpayers) blow money across those fan blades to keep them subsidized we will have cheap energy.

Read this JunkScience review of Pickins plan
It doesn't paint a very good picture. Just another plan to take money from people and give it to Pickins?
The plan includes using Natural Gas to run cars. See any places to fill up? Are you prepared to replace your car or buy a multi-thousand dollar conversion?
Hear about the energy emergency in Texas when the wind stopped blowing?
And there are more negatives in the article. Read it:

I also sent them an email asking what they think of the plan. I hope we do not miss the ball. A man spending millions to get this out. We should get out in front of this.

If you do sign up, be sure to also join our group there. We should contact campaignforliberty.com and get their opinion on Pickensplan.com
He has only 27,000 people signed up so far. One blog post or email by the campaignforliberty and we become the #1 group on his site.

Does our president endorses him?
If Dr Paul backs him up I'm on board. Can we all ask our president if he would endorse Pickens?
The dollar!
RP says and I agree completely that we need to have a sound currency, the high oil prices as well as other commodities are related to a weak dollar.
The president of OPEC stated recently that for every 1% decline in the value of the dollar Crude Futures gain 4 dollars.
I like Pickens idea but it is temporary.
Campaign for Liberty Group
I signed up too. I created a "Campaign for Liberty" group at the Pickens site- if we are going to sign up, we may as well get some exposure for the CFL there.

Personally dont like the guy but...
This shouldnt be personal... he has a real plan not just a bunch of "we should do this" or "we could do that".. as far as the negatives of wind or this guy making money off the natural gas business? Well considering we are currently funding the Saudis and dumping poisons into the air on an industrial scale... I would say this is a good first step.
There would still be the need for another couple large projects like this one.. but this one could be up and running in under 10 years... it should have started in 2001.
We can always look at this as a transitional move and when we have in place a solid replacement for it then these wind turbines can always be phased out.
I don't know much about him
I don't know much about him but I have seen the commercials. On the other hand, isn't he involved with Bush and everyone else. From what I read, he supported him both times and donated a lot of money. The juxtaposition is kinda odd. Did he have a revelation or something. Why would someone in that camp be interested in working on this problem?
Free markets
I support any entrepreneur that wants to solve a critical problem and provide value to consumers. I do NOT support a dime of government money to support these risky ventures. I think this is the essence of Dr. Paul's message - the government needs to get out of the business of choosing the winners and losers, and let the market decide.
That said...it seems like Pickens' plan is to lobby for government subsidies and handouts.

Word on the street is that Alt Energy is going to be the basis for the next economic "bubble". Grab up some of those promising start up companies now before the mad rush ensues and we do the bubble to bust thing all over again.

Then you will know everything you need to know about the truth of "big oil."

More research needs to be done before we go all hog wild on
these alternatives. I am concerned about the noise problems with these large turbines. Some newer studies are showing long term exposure can cause Vibro-Acoustic Disease, and its documented (Germany) that epileptic seizures will increase due to proximity to the turbines. While this might not concern people who live in the city, for those of us who live in rural areas where they want to put these massive turbines it is not a thrilling prospect.
Personally I'd rather see the push for legalization of hemp production.
Solar power is a viable option too.
Wind is good, and can produce alot of power. There are some issues with space and tower height. Towers must be very high to harvest continuous wind. There are some dirigible-type wind generators which are like tethered blimps, which might have some potential.
Solar is a pretty mature technology now, and costs are coming down, and new cheaper processes are being discovered.
There is an average of 1300 watts per square meter available during daylight hours, available for harvesting. And it's not just electrical conversions either. Direct heating is becoming a big industry for solar thermal heating activities, especially in water heating. Methods have been developed for storing the energy for use overnight, including batteries and thermal storage devices. It is viable.
Hydro has been used for many years, and is also viable. Micro-hydro generators can be used for places that have nearby streams on the property.
Combinations of any 2 or 3 of these technologies can easily power home needs. Efficient appliances are the other half of the equation. Use less, and you'll have to generate less power.
It's all there now, and it is getting cheaper as people discover new and better ways to do it.
Alternative Fuel
The idea of wind power is a option of note, but the problem with wind power is you have to utilize vast amounts of property to set up a wind power operation. You also need to have a supply of wind, which is not always availible.Producing Ethanol from corn isn't a good idea either corn is food, and we shouldn't burn our food supply for fuel.Hydrogen from water doesn't make a lot of sense either, using up your water supply. But what does make sense to me is Methane from landfills. It's hardly ever discussed but it is in constant supply, and we create more trash everyday.Trash is a waste product so we don't have to use our food resouces or drill in sensitive areas. When material decomposes it gives off Methane gas, most landfills just burn it off as a waste product. But it is possible to utilize for fuel.
Landfill Gas to Fuel
The method by which methane is recovered
from landfills involves the use of a series
of wells and vacuums that collect the gas.
The methane is then sent to a processing
and treatment facility, which typically
operates on-site at the landfill but can be located
between the landfill and the end user, at a separate
location, or at the site of the end-user. Several functions
exist for gas that has been collected, processed
and treated.
The most common use is by utility companies
that require natural gas or some other fuel to produce
electricity through the operation of engines, turbines
or microturbines. Depending on the type of company,
its electrical needs, and the amount of methane output
from the landfill, the electricity is either used by the
company that produces or purchases it, is made available
for purchase by local industries, or is sold for use
on the local power grid. Another alternative, which
requires further refinement of the gas, is to convert the
methane into a pipeline-quality transportation fuel for
alternative fuel vehicles.13 Burning methane is more
efficient than using natural gas, since LFG has approximately
half the heat content of natural gas and burns at
a lower temperature.

Thanks for that data, Faron, on landfill
methane gas....I know this is true...I worked at a facility in the 90's that baled up garbage to try to utilize the most from landfill space...of course, we ended up going out of business due to new GOVERNMENT regulations... now that is one of the better ideas I have come across...all for hemp production, as well...
