1 question for Alan Greenspan
Submitted by Storm3 on Sat, 11/03/2007 - 13:25I will be going to a management conference in São Paulo next week and Alan Greenspan will give a 2-hour video conference.
MAYBE there will be a Q&A after.
MAYBE I will have the chance to ask ONE question.
The presentation will be on the 7th of November, so perfect post-November 5th timing.
I have not researched properly the issues between Paul and Greenspan, but if anyone has a question will try to pose it.
Fire away.

Question for Alan Greenspan
For starters I think a perfectly simple question would suffice:
"Do you think that it is justified to denounce the idea of restricting the money supply by commodity backing, i.e. something like the gold standard, as being "absolutely crazy, freakish or nuts etc.", like many in the mainstream media try to paint it, or do you concede that this would be a perfectly viable and sound economic alternative to the current system and the problem of inflation that merits serious debate instead of ridicule?"
For a hint about how he will probably answer see :

(from about 5:50 onwards, although the whole clip is very interesting)
Perhaps you even get to follow that up with:
"So you would confirm, that anyone calling that flat out "crazy" has obviously no clue about monetary policy?"
How about...
Mr. Greenspan, could you please refute for me the logic of your 1966 essay 'Gold and Economic Freedom'? He will likely evade the question, because the truth is that he was correct in 1966 and subsequently sold his soul. It might get an audience member or two to read it though.
Thanks for the suggestion,
Thanks for the suggestion, Archiphage, but I think I would be in over my head. I wouldn't be able to clarify or defend the question if it came to it.
What I was hoping for was a constructed question which would force Greenspan to give us Paulites a quote which we could use in our campaign.
