What will you do when the SH!# hits the fan? Better yet, What are you willing to give up?

I have been wondering about fortitude lately. How much are we gonna need to survive the horrible predictions that even Dr. Paul has suggested are on the way. I am scared shitless honestly. It is very hard to imagine how it could become.

This thread got me to thinking http://www.dailypaul.com/node/55551#comment-561094

What will you do if the predictions are true? I suspect they are true and my mind is reeling with ideas. I just keep coming up with a hopeless outlook though; "The Grapes of Wrath", ring any bells? Other than gardens and guns with ammo what will you do if the scenarios play out as predicted? Will the borders be open? What are some of the questions you guys are asking yourselves and what are you doing to prepare other than the obvious.....any good ideas out there. I just cant imagine millions of people leaving the foodless cities...okay so i am alittle O.D.'d on Alex Jones...I sure as hell aint going shopping for clothes and furniture. am I over-reacting?

I have tried

to look at every possible angle of this coming debacle and the outcome for me, is not good. I have tried looking for something positive, it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack. I look at homeless people in a whole new light. I used to blame them for being lazy and weak with afflictions, but now I understand it could be any of us in the near future. I see them now as being more free than the rest of us. They dont cling to material possesions, which hold you down. Could it be possible to be reduced to a nation of gypsies? Let's be real here, they are not passing these laws such as FISA ( spying is the fuel of fascism ) and the housing bailout bill, which piggybacked a provision to allow the IRS to moniter all your transactions, such as credit, debit, checks, paypal ect. They are not doing this for nothing. They will be able to see what the slaves are doing, such as stocking up on food, gold, silver, ammo, ect. Not to mention the fence, they are building. Does anyone think they are really building a fence to keep out the illegals? Wouldn't that be counter productive to the globalist agenda? I believe the fence is to keep us in. I also believe there are camps ready for us. This will be reserved for the ones who wont roll over and take it nicely. I sure as ( insert word here ) wont be heading for a camp singing cume ba la. Someone also mentioned on here about they are now taxing you if you try to leave this country. Unbelievable. I talked to a relative who lives in TN and now they are charging the parents 30 dollars per child per month to attend school ( they pay they taxes already for the schools ) it's getting that bad. This is just the tip of the iceburg folks. This country is flat out broke, with the current ponzi scheme of the banksters, the banks are insolvent already. They just havent told you to curtail mass panic. This is another reason they are starting to drill in this country, who will sell us oil with a worthless currency? These traitors in DC KNOW you cant keep a country solvent with no manufacturing base, wide open borders ( enticed by a socialistic system ) and a fiat currency being printed into oblivion. The Patriot Act was the final nail in the coffin for freedom. All these other draconian laws are to keep us in place and them alive. I dont relish the idea of being a slave, it's one thing to think it, it's another to KNOW IT. Those who think they can just hole up may be in for a suprise. They can and will take you and your land and posessions by force, if need be. They have eminent domain. They also have been and will sell off this country with you and I on it. What's the mineral rights on your property worth?I thought I wanted to stay in this country, but now I am not so sure. The question is where else is there to go?

Do yourself a favor

and live your best life TODAY! The more negative thoughts you have, the more you draw negativity to you.

YOU may not be affected. Make your plans but DO NOT live in fear! If you do, then they win.

I live in the country, therefore do not have the worry and concerns of city dwellers. Find a friend in the country and start networking.

Start networking in your neighborhood, but whatever you do, DO NOT LIVE IN FEAR!

Live your best life, plan on succeeding in whatever you do, and by all means, do something.

Is anyone moving out of the

Is anyone moving out of the country? If so, have you found any good places? I just want to be ready to move if they start forcing vaccinations for "bioterror" myths. I mean, honestly, why has the US gov. built detention camps all over the US fully staffed if they don't plan to use them?!?

I'm not really looking for a commune life or anything crazy, I mean, why paint a bulls eye on your farm... look at Waco, but at the same time a community of like minded people would be amazing.

One more thought...it may be good to study how the Amish live and visit a community to learn from them. I am intrigued with that culture and their self-sufficiency.

How do you make a living 4 hours from the city?

What and miss the party.

I am

working on pulling up all of my roots...selling all of my assets here and will be living in Costa Rica.

Can you find jobs

in Costa Rica? I bet they have some big bugs. LOL.

Jobs?

Well....if you speak fluent Spanish...Yes. You can make a killing in the tourist industry. But if you don't speak fluent Spanish...then you are in trouble.

The locals frown upon "Gringos" taking their jobs, and the average Costa Rican only makes $300 to $400 per month working 6 days a week and 10 hours a day. So on the high end you would get $1.66 per hour. The best jobs for an American would be working in the high end restaurants on the coast or bartending. Anything that has to do with "Tips" from Americans. Many rich Americans flock to the Costa Rica coast, and they are always in desperate need of translators. Anybody who speaks English is rewarded highly in Costa Rica...and if you speak Spanish as well...then you can double your income again.

It is very different.

arrrggg this country is not

arrrggg this country is not worth fighting for?

as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD

“A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.” (Prov. 22:3; 27:12 KJV)

Hey McCain-----┌П┐(◣_◢)┌П┐

Come on

I fight everyday, but I feel that in my own best interests and in regards to survival. I must have an exit plan. I love Costa Rica. It is where I go to gather my thoughts and vacation. Along the way, I have set up a little camp for myself. Small house, car, familiar with the country etc. I would hate to bail on the US, but I have no other choice if Sh*T hits the fan. It is warm, friendly and very inexpensive to live. Also, the food and water is all organic and fresh. When I am in Costa Rica, I get very healthy. It is an amazing place. It has its problems like any other country....but the problems Costa Rica has are nothing compared to the USA. The lights will go off once in awhile, no high speed Internet, petty theft, etc. These problems in my opinion are very manageable.

Another law in Costa Rica is that you can only stay for 90 days at a time.....but that is easily fixed by just going to Panama for 72 hours and then coming back. A little hassle...but I think it is Okay to go on a little road trip every 3 months if needed. And the fine for staying over 90 days is minimal.

how are you planning to support yourself?

It would be cool if there were alot of us moving to central america and could meet up and discuss plans.

LOL

Costa Rica is very different then here. Food and Water cost next to nothing, and most people never finance a home, so their really is no debt....It only takes about $400 a month to live like a king after you have gotten the house and car out of the way. So at that rate.......I could last quite a while on just my savings. $4800 a year?? That is close to what I pay in property tax alone here in the states. Hmmm?

Actually maybe you *should* buy clothes.

How much would several years' supply of socks cost you? And how about work boots and walking shoes? We all might be doing a lot more walking. How long would your present wardrobe last you? Some extra pants and shirts might be a good Idea. We're talking basics here, not style. Pay special attention to cold weather needs, jackets, gloves, etc.

The bottom line is that supply interruptions could occur and affect what's available in stores, even gas stations. You might not be able to get to a store to buy anything.

Yes, you might be forced out of your home. You might have to live outdoors year-round. You should consider buried caches of food, medicine, clothes, money (including some *real* money), a gun and amo in hermetically sealed containers. And have a "bug out bag" packed with food, clothes, shelter, and survival equipment so you can strap it on and leave without ever going back if conditions warrant.

The key is to be alert to dangers around you and be ready to act at once. You might shoot a dozen assailants trying to enter your home and rob you one week and decide to leave your food stores, your garden, and your silver bullion behind the next week as staying becomes untenable from a survival standpoint. At that point it would help if you have one or more destinations in mind with buried caches along the way to sustain you as well as a large cache of supplies there awaiting your arrival. Alternatively, have a reserve of gas stored so you can drive there if that is deemed possible.

Once you have made some preparations for truly hard times you will begin to feel better, even enjoy the process of getting further prepared.

Look for Cost & Price Value differencials and the Factor of 5.

What do I mean?

Lets go back to the good old Lemonade stand.

Remember how that works? What is the cost of sugar, water, lemon juice, the stand, reinvestment profit, and your living wage? Remember what your good ol dad taught you? The factor of 5?

That is, "Son, if you wish to stay in business, make sure you never break the factor of 5."

Ok, not everyone was as lucky as me to have a dad give you some needed advice when you were just a teenager first trying to make a buck. So here you go...... Here is the lecture on the "factor of 5 and Cost/Price differentials"---in case you missed it.

Teenage Son asking his dad for advice-----"What if my lemonade stand does a factor of 6 or even 7 dad?" ------Dad, "Well then son, you will soon be rolling in the money!"

Son --- "What is the factor of 5?"

Dad---"It is your cost per glass of lemonade must be 1 and your retail selling price AT LEAST 5. The RULE OF 5 is just a basic Rule of Thumb. If the business does not factor "to make money at a factor of 5, then don't go into that business. Your glass of lemonade has ALL YOUR COSTS ADDED IN, including the profit you need to go back and do it all again, a living profit so you can live to see next year and pure profit to grow your business bigger. SO if your lemonade juice, sugar, cups, stand all cost you ten cents, then you must add 10 cents to buy those materials again (and watch out for inflation), 10 cents for you to live on, and 10 cents for you to grow your business bigger. Get the idea son?"

Son-- " What if I want to raise twenty chickens instead dad, and the cost per dozen eggs is only ,25 cents?"

Dad---"well then son you better be able to sell those dozen eggs to the store for $1.25, or you will soon be eating the chicken's corn yourself".

Son --- "Dad, what if I make a clothing business and sell that hottest sports jackets?"

Dad--"Well son, you bring up an interesting point, some businesses must have higher factors than others, and its your job to decipher what those factors are BEFORE going into that business. I think your uncle Nathan told us once that the factor in clothing business is 10, that is your cost better be 1 dollar, the retail price better be AT LEAST $10 if you expect to be in business another year".

Son---"You mean when I buy a $10 jacket, it just cost the guy who made it $1 dollar?"

Dad---"Yep, thats about right."

Son----"Wow, thats not fair, I want the jacket for $2 dollars, not ten."

Dad --- "But if he sold it to you for just $2 dollars, he would never have the profit he needed to eat, let alone buy more material to make more jackets for next year. You see, the Factor ---Factors all this in. Its what we call a useful "rule of thumb"".

Son---"What if I want to build or manufacture something?"

Son, ---"Like make shoes?"

Dad, ---"Excellent idea. Well its the same with lemonade. Look at the cost of materials, leather, glue, and shoe making machines. Look at your cost per shoe. Then look at the retail price you can sell them for. Its as simple as that. Its not complicated. Its just basic math, addition and subtraction. Thats the beauty of it. Just make sure that you use a factor of 10 or more. Fashion is such a fickle thing, you may make a killing on some styles, but loose big on others."

Son, "What if I want buy houses like you dad?

Dad --- "In real estate I do the same thing. I look at purchasing & holding costs and Selling Prices. I look for 3 things in houses. First get a price that gives you a mortgage that was lower than what you could rent it out for and any yearly rental expenses. Thats called cash flow. Second, Look to buy a house that is cheaper than Rebuilding costs. Third, look for a house in an "up and coming growing area". Because house prices have risen so fast, many people could not find this kind of deal, but today they can. That is just an example son".

Son --- "Have you seen anyone else use the factor of 5 to make millions dad?"

Dad -- "Oh yes, all the time. Take that "Girls Gone Wild" TV advertisement I caught you watching the other day"

Son --- "What, well I was not really watching it"

Dad, ---"Well the story on that guy is he just took his video camera to college parties. Before long other guys where asking him to show them his recordings of the parties. He was smart enough to realize his costs were low and he could sell two DVD's for just $10. His production and reproduction costs are extremely low. His material costs, crazy drunk college girls, give him material for free. Only Animal Life documentary makers get their material costs "for free", that is the lions and tigers do not charge a modeling fee. So with such low costs, I am guessing around 5 cents a DVD, he could afford some expensive advertising that probably quadrupled his costs up to 20 cents a DVD. Selling each DVD for 5 dollars, this is a factor of ....."

Son, "thats a factor of 25 !!!! Wow he is rich!"

Dad, "Yes, I would not be surprised if he was a millionaire before 30. You can be too, just surround yourself with POSITIVE examples. Buy Success Magazine, read their stories. Get your mind thinking about Price and Value differentials."

Son,---"Do you really think that I can do it dad?"

Dad --- "Well it is NOT rocket science. Its not algebra. Its not hard at all. You just need to inquire, ask lots of questions about prices, learn the value of things. Look for Cost and Price differences. You collected one hundred old games and placed them up on your computer. Then you charged your buddies at school just 50 cents to copy them from your computer. That was brilliant. Do something like that again. Remember, the larger the COST and PRICE difference, the better your chances are in making some it big"

Son---"Dad did you really pay $25 per square foot for that marble tile mom picked out for the bathroom? That marble guy probably has a quarry somewhere and made a killing on you dad....ha, ha, ha..."

Dad---"Well son, when you get yourself a wife, I do the laughing.....ha, ha, ha."

Purpose of life

I went through so of the same things so months ago. (I am in the UK but I expect similar thing to happen and we have the EU problem and there is a lot of debt here too.) I was pretty down and the situation filled my thoughts in a negative way. I was an athiest but as I did a lot more research and I came to a realisation that it is a spiritual battle as well as anything else. I started to reasearch areas of science and religion and ancient History and spirituality which had been alien to me and I realised much has been hidden from us. Take heart get to know your neighbours, try to make yourself a better person, educate yourself in all things realise that you being in fear of the NWO gives them there power, choose to be free of fear and move beyond it, choose to be a free person. Goats, goats, goats

The ultimate survival food source is the goat. They eat weeds and brush, first, then green grass. They reproduce easily. They are tough and resilient.

Their mutton (or barbacoa, if smoked Spanish-style) is a good high-protein, low fat meat.

Goats also produce

milk and organic fertilizer!!

OK, like all livestock, some goats are better for meat production some are better dairy goats so make sure you've got a couple of different kinds after determining what you need.

Chickens are super-easy to keep (at least where I live) and their production of eggs & fertilzer, combined with their love of bugs, makes them a good addition to any rural home.

Someone posted earlier that people would need at least 4 acres. I think that's way to small. Having come from a family that actually farmed and actually ate, canned, froze, etc enough food for a family I do know that 4 acres would not have been nearly enough land. (Rule of thumb that I was raised with: No less than 300 jars of canned goods to make it comfortably thru the winter). Especially if you're also trying to keep animals that you're not going to buy feed for.....Animals eat A LOT more than most people realize (even goats).

Just my $.02......

and they produce milk

many middle eastern dishes are made of goat but the ones I 've tried were filled with bones. It tasted good after I sifted all the bones from my mouth. Goats milk is good for babies and can be used to make soap and lotions. Very good sustainable product.

In my opinion, the correct

In my opinion, the correct answer will be "I'll be a Farmer".

Food and water shortages will be the order of the day. Real life crises are not a Rambo movie.

When civilization crashes, your first concern should be "What will I feed my kids?"

I doubt my life would change much...

My house is outfitted with solar panels and is situated about 20 miles from the largest city(10k). Enough electricity is generated to cover the air-conditioning and about 60% of the lights in my house. Well water tastes great. Rainwater is collected in a large 12,000 gal tank from the run off from the house. Garden and hothouse is looking rather nice this time of year. All veggies and fruits are organic and the seeds have been saved over several years. Literally hundreds of canning jars waiting to be used. Goats and pigs are doing fine. The pit grill seems to still work (mmm BBQ). Woodland critters are in easy range, generally on my own land. The smokehouse and springhouse are fully functional. The reloader is well stocked and the ammo cache is a little over half full. Several pounds of gold and silver along with several hundred pounds of lead. Property tax paid up to 30 years in advance. And most importantly, a huge library.

So, lets see...

Clothing
Guns
Ammo
Gold and silver

Don't owe a damn thing to anyone.

I'm not a gold bug or a survivalist... just a well educated, deep woods, country boy that hates debt with a passion. So if the shit does hit the fan... oh well. I doubt I'll notice except for internet access. I don't think that will be too much of a loss.

Hi Moon!

Here's a good starter exercise for any SHTF scenario.
You can start with this, and then make the trial runs longer as you get more experienced.

Pick a weekend, and on Friday evening, just go to the breaker box and shut off the electric to the house, and turn off the water main to the house, and act like you can't drive the car anywhere.
Spend the whole weekend like that, and live with what you've got.
By the end of the weekend, you'll know what you're gonna need to get in order to survive for a weekend.

Then next time you can try it for a week.

Ideally, you should get a good enough idea what it would take to last out a year.

Yep, pretty scary.
At least in the exercises, you know when it will be over, and you could turn on the electric if you had to. Not so in a real SHTF.

It's an eye-opener.
Try it. Nothing like real world experience as a teacher.
And this is just survival, without having to worry about defending yourself or anything like that. But start out slow, and build up as you learn. Nobody starts out as an expert.

now thats a reality check

I think it would be a good idea just to save on utilities too.....
