"Why are you wasting your vote?"
Submitted by spankz on Mon, 07/21/2008 - 14:48
I just had a coworker ask me this after seeing I had a couple pictures from the march up.
I told her I am not. I told her he would never win if everyone thought voting for him would be "wasting their vote." I told her the media brought the frontrunners to us, not us to them.
More than that, I just dont have the energy to fight that kind of ignorance any longer. I really have no tolerance for it anymore.

Agree
I am so sick of that line (wasting votes)
Voting McBama is a wasted vote - because they have no message -
with substance and truth.
USA only follows what the media says - it will only get worse -
but grassroots is an amazing revolution - we have to continue
sharing the only message with real CHANGE
the climax and the beginning - September 1 and 2
I hope all DPers and RP supporters will invade and take over
Minneapolis! (hopefully msm will take notice)
if not - the internet will for sure!
Assuming....
...that votes are actually counted in this country anymore....I will be "wasting" my vote too....why? 1) Because there isn't any other choice of a leader. 2) Because voting for the lesser-of-two-evils is still voting for evil. 3) Because we want change in the way our government behaves...and RP is different than the others. Dems and Reps have become the same, just CFR stooges doing what they're told. RP represents ME...
I am almost 50, and am voting for my first time...it's finally important enough.
Besides, a taxpayer voting for Obama, is like a chicken voting for Col. Sanders!

The "why waste your vote?" psychological programming is closely associated with the "nothing can be done about it" programming.
I've learned that, philosophically, this mindset can be overcome using a little logic. That is--if you internalize or rationalize that nothing can be done, than certainly nothing will be done.
For example, if you want to lose weight or get a new job or go to school or buy a new car, you're not going to achieve those things by rationalizing that you cannot do those things. The first step is always believing that you can accomplish what you set out to do. When that happens, most people will achieve their goals.
But somehow, when it comes to public affairs, people adopt this collective mindset that ultimately only repeats the same vicious cycle over and over again.

Not so suprisingly, this coworker could use a little (or a lot) of exercise and discipline.

I just had the same thing happen recently
when conversing with my mother's Estate lawyer's secretary...she asked me why I was wasting my vote....I stated that if everybody felt that way, of course the person they wanted elected wouldn't get elected....I said to her that people need to change that mindset....I hope I at least got her thinking...she did admit that she considered Ron Paul decent, upstanding....etc......
It does get very frustrating...

Depending on
which state one lives in, voting may not be worth the cost of the gas to get to a polling place.
Here in NJ, the they have created such an immense socialist state, half the citizens are unable to reason effectively anymore, and the other half work for the government, so Obama's empty speeches will most likely carry the day.
So why spend the fuel voting, if your state's electorate is going to decide it's fate before you get out of work on election day?
Ventura is right about one thing, every ballot should have None of the Above as a candidate.
the other day I said:
"MY vote is NEVER a wasted vote! What a terrible thing to say."
Who is she voting for ?

I've run into the same
I've run into the same mindset, only worse. So many actually fear Obama, even though they don't really believe in McCain (and will admit so), they practically area frantic when I tell them I am encouraging folk to look at the other choices.
Wasted Vote
Ask:
Do you think your vote will be the tie-breaker? (wait for answer)
Is your vote wasted if it isn't? (wait for answer)
Why not? (wait for answer)
Especially if you vote for your second choice because he/she has a better chance to win, you can't even say when it's over and your vote did not change the outcome, that you stood up for the best candidate.
The only vote not wasted is the vote for the best candidate, regardless of his chances.
