Federal Reserve controls US policy?

If Nathan Rothschild did indeed say this:
“I care not what puppet is placed upon the throne of England to rule the Empire on which the sun never sets. The man who controls Britain's money supply controls the British Empire, and I control the British money supply.”
Could someone please explain to me how the 12 private banks who own the Federal Reserve might be able to use it to direct the policies of the United States of America?
Could everyone please give me their opinion on this?

The reason we police the world for natural resources is because the Federal Reserve monetary system has bankrupted us into debt slavery and we have nothing real anymore. We just export paper.

By controlling the issuance of money
they have the ability to inflate or deflate the People's money, and by positioning themselves accordingly can ride the controlled booms and busts, gleefully taking the profits from ordinary people who get lost in the intricate minutia of this phony banking system. The phony media makes it sound like an economic downturn effects everyone, that all that wealth lost just disappears. This obvious advantage allows for almost endless possibilities of further influencing the future of a nation by purchasing networks, radio stations, newspapers, etc. Starting thinktanks and foreign policy discussion groups (TLC, CFR, etc) to influence politicians viewpoints and bestow 'awards' and provide favorable coverage to candidates who either participates in these organizations or is at least willing to surround his/her self w/ people from these organizations (Reagan).
Case in point: NAFTA David Rockefeller started some 10+ organizations (Forum of the Americas, etc) where he literally cultivated Latin leaders and American leaders to support the NAFTA proposals.
One must ask their self why should a private organization that works in secret ever have control over a nation's money supply?

moneyed interests
Despite the fact that many if not most Senators and Representatives are bought and paid for by the moneyed interests of this nation...the real linchpin of the argument comes down to the fact that governments can't do much without money.
If they print their own money they can do pretty much as they like. On the other hand when a private corporation becomes the sole issuer of a currency they can decide which programs they wish to allow the government to spend on by either refusing loans for programs they disapprove of or granting loans for programs they do approve of.
Either way the actions of government and by extension the course of the nation are directed by 'a small group of dominant men'(W.Wilson) to their own benefit without oversight and without recourse to the people.
