"Ron Paul wants to bomb every country on Earth"

Okay people, wrap your minds around this one...

So I'm driving between LA and San Diego and I stop off in San Clemente for a coffee. This is in the southern tip of coastal Orange County, a hotbed of libertarian minded thought. As I'm pulling out of the parking lot of the coffee shop, I see a Toyota truck with a shell on it and surf racks, and plastered all over the back of it are bumper stickers like "Give me back my Constitution!", "Purple Heart Veteran", etc. Now if you read my post on the police you know that I carry AF2F, "Washington You're Fired, etc. DVDs with me for just such occasions...;-)

I pulled back into my parking spot and jumped out of my car (VW bus with Ron Paul stuff all over it) with the intent of putting the DVDs under the wipers or in the door jamb, but when I got close I realized that there people sitting inside; a man with a long gray beard and (probably) his wife or significant other. Before I could say a word, he belted out "Don't try to give those to me!" The rest of the conversation went something like this:

Me: "Well I saw your bumperstickers and I thought you might be interested in watching these..."

Him: "I will tell you, when I first heard Ron Paul speak, I must say I was interested. Then I heard about his opinions on the war."

Obviously he had seen my VW.

Me (inside my head): "Oh boy, hear comes the neocon brainwashing propagenda (thanks to Dave Von Kleist for that term)"

Me: (out loud): "Well don't you think it's about time we came home? After all, isn't our mission accomplished?"

Him: "Yes, it is. But I'm afraid of what Ron Paul would do if we elected him president."

Me: "Oh really. Tell me more."

Him: "Well, I have a friend who is very politically connected, and he tells me that most people misread what Ron Paul says about war."

Me: "But you realize that he is the only candidate running who says that we should only wage war in retaliation to being attacked?"

Him: "Yes, I do. But you have to understand what he means by 'being attacked'. I'm afraid that he would bomb every country on Earth."

Me: "Huh?"

So, in a nutshell (or in this instance, a nutcase), this guy tried to tell me that RP has a special definition of "being attacked" that might include being called names, sending irate messages across the ocean in bottles, etc., etc...

If anyone can find evidence of this "secret definition", please feel free to enlighten us!

Paranoia and Wishful Thinking

Are the norm rather than the exception. It sounds like this guy is very afraid of the Republican Party in general. It would be interesting to find out if he had the same fears about the Democrats. On the wishful thinking end of the spectrum, I recall laughing at an Obama supporter on youtube who wanted tax cuts.

-"Ron Paul cured me of my predilection for Che Guevara T shirts."

Just goes to show you...

The sheeple will believe anything.

You know what this is, don't you

He has gotten into that "reverse" psychology of the NWO. Call it onto the other person just exactly what you are doing that they don't like. What he has been fed is exactly what the globalists do. WE (the people) are the enemy here in the US. WE (our government) is PEACE keeping all over the world. Bush says, "Why do they hate us? We are so GOOD." Obama says we have to tear down the borders. We can't have countries that are so much greater than other countries. We can't have people here who live in 72 degrees in their houses, drive cars that require so much gas and eat anything they want. The world doesn't like that. He said that is not leadership. In other words for anything they have in mind to do, they make their own plan sound so worthy of praise and so inviting for the people. But anyone who is against them, they say they are doing "exactly what they are really doing, but lying about." Obama also said the US must learn Spanish, the Spanish people do not have to learn English.

I think you ran across an old, burnt out hippie. Too bad! I grew up a little too late for the hippie days. But I did get to see the aftermath of the Love Revolution as it turned into a cesspool of drugs and satanic idolotry. Some people you just can't reach.

Thats probably not the worst.

The worst is when you tell people that Ron Paul is the ONLY peace candidate... and then they argue that they dont want peace. Most people have been brainwashed to the point where they believe peace is weakness and war is free. That makes me sad. I am no peace-nik liberal bleeding heart... but gosh people... even I know that you should only go to war when its absoluetly necessary.

I've experienced this response too often.

Throughout my journey, the answer you describe has come up often when interacting with those not as familiar with the concept of limited government/personal liberty. I feel your pain G Class, It is a bit disheartening and makes reasoning with someone difficult. Most of those who never see war regard it as something mystical and noble, those who see it and describe it for the masses tell another story. We can hold true in our beliefs of non-intervention because we, at least, recognize the human and economic costs associated with war. Those that do not see the evidence that supports non-interventionism and anti-statism can only discover it on their own. Continue to nudge politically-active peers in the liberty direction and we will attain results. This will be a long process, but the goal is necessary and worthwhile. Thank you.

So, when McCain sings "Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.."

What HE really means is 'no entangling alliances'..

Sounds like that guy was so surprised to hear a politician tell

the truth that he thought he must be telling the most outrageous of lies. People are so used to politicians telling lies, that when one tells the truth, they believe it must be the biggest lie of them all. Keep spreading tho word.

Poor thing.
