This is when Barr voted down the original bill in committee called the anti-terrorist act and then came the newly re-named Patriot Act a week later.
Barr starts at the 8 min mark and ends at the 35 min mark.
This is the day before the Patriot Act was brought to the floor in the house.

Good Grief
You actually did better pushing the repentance angle. This justification simply doesn't cut it. There was no need to vote for it; in fact, it was reprehensible. This legislation was too malevolent to justify support for it in any form.
And I watched this video. How do you think this helps your defense of Barr? I kept waiting for a punchline that never came.

I will agree Barr or Baldwin are much better choices than McCain
or Obama. I will be researching them if Ron Paul does not get the nomination, but I am hoping for the sake of our delegates, we can respect them by posting about Barr and Baldwin after they are the only two choices we have left. I don't even know anything about Barr or Baldwin enough to criticize or accept them, I will not know anything about them unless Ron Paul is unelectable. We need to remain focused on Ron Paul for the sake of our delegates, let's take this to the finish line and worry about what ifs when we need to. Right now Ron Paul is still in it, remember? Ron Paul all the way, our delegates will do us proud. I am trying to be civil, could you also be civil and promote your candidate if Ron Paul is no longer electable?
I don't buy that.
How do you know that several of those delegates are not Barr supporters? Just because one is a Paul delegate doesn't mean they can't be donating to Barr's campaign at the same time. I doubt any of those delegates are under the impression that Paul has a chance at getting the nomination. They're there simply to show that there is support for Paul's philosophy. It's just to give Paul a showing at the convention.

Bob Barr in 2001...
I wish all those who rip on Barr for his Patriot Act "support" watch this...
Did Barr vote FOR the (un)patriot act? YES OR NO WILL DO
So, did he vote YES or NO? What does the historical record say about Bob Barr's support of the (un)patriot act? WHAT WAS HIS VOTE? YES OR NO...WHICH WAS IT?
Jeff there were two votes
The First vote he voted "NAY", it passed anyway. The second vote after the sunset provisions and weakened language were put in he voted "YEA"
However, it wouldn't have made a difference on the second vote if he did or didn't because it already passed the house. Its moot, but obviously Barr thought it was a bad vote also as he said numerous times it was the worst vote he had ever made.
The point is that if the damn thing already passed, then it passed. I think I like the fact that he went in there and put in sunset provisions to make it weaker for the final bill to be signed by the President. It wasn't like the guy was cheering for the Patriot Act, if you watch him he had grave concerns about the whole thing, and while Dr Paul voted NO NO NO, he didn't do a heck of alot of good when it passed anyway because they wouldn't invite him onto the committee to make the wording changes. So sometimes when you are so negative about something it becomes detrimental in the long run. I don't know about you, I guess you would trade one "NAY" vote for Sunset Provisions, but I wouldn't because that one "NAY" vote wouldn't have mattered from Barr because the "YEAs" won by a huge margin. Instead Barr was able to get in there and make some changes

What would winning look like, anyway? Bob Barr dropping out of the race? Seriously embarrassed by the lack of support? All his votes going to the dominant parties, instead? What?
Nobody is perfect, and that includes Ron Paul. The whole reason we don't want government central planning is because the officials we elect are seriously flawed.
This is not (yet) a choice between Ron Paul or Bob Barr. Barr has been nominated, and Ron Paul has not. When it becomes a race between the two of them, I, for one, will rejoice. I can think of nothing better than having the two of them to decide between.
Deciding who to vote for because of a black & white, no subtleties, assessment of their position on a single issue is what created candidates who don't say ANYTHING of substance. It's what gets the bland elected.

It's good that you posted the link though, so the less informed can see for themselves what bob barr actually DID regarding the (un)patriot act, given what the mental munchkins like to SAY about his support of the (un)patriot act.

but I just had to do it. This is one issue that I don't take lightly. After waking up last year to Dr. Paul's message...I made a promise to my wife, son, and myself that I would never, ever support ANYONE that voted for the Patriot Act, and do what I can to repeal it.
I don't care what they were thinking beforehand...I don't care if they tried to water it down...I don't care whether they had a chance to read it, that's more of a reason to vote NAY, it's like signing a contract without reading it first...I don't care if they "regret" voted in favor of it the first time, then vote against it when it was time to renew...shouldnt have been ignorant the first time!

I only joined a few months ago...some people say...ohhh I've been here x number of months or years....big deal...do they really think we are that stupid--we know that Neocons would have the foresight to join here just in case???!! The reason I only joined a few months ago, shishio, is because I'm an older lady and didn't know these kinda places were on the computer....but I've been writing letters to my local newspaper praising Ron Paul since last summer...

All you have to do to see what I wrote here on the DP is to go to the search box in the upper righthand corner of this site, type in bedr1 and go back to the earliest date and read what I said about Ron Paul. I am sure you will see I was then and still am a rock solid Ron Paul supporter.
Just because Ron Paul ended the race and some of us have moved to the only viable candidate left, that being Bob Barr - that doesn't make us anti-Ron Paul. We are just trying to spread the message, get Barr in the debates where he can actually do some real good and who knows he may skyrocket and beat out Obama and McCain and that I think you would agee would be a million times better.
