Marching For Stalin: Mayday London 2008

This is not a parody. Welcome to England. If you thought that Europeans were a little "left-wing" you might be right.

The funniest way to annoy a British communist...

...is to confuse his communist party with one of the other communist parties.

-"Ron Paul cured me of my predilection for Che Guevara T shirts."

And it's their weakness,

what a blessing. But what about 'Anarchy in Britain'? Are the anarchist groups mentioned there simply left-wingers or is there a grain of libertarianism in them?

Ron Paul was right

Good point. Good question.

The idea that all the enemies of limited government are working together on the same team is false. That's why its silly to call Bush a "Trotskyite" or FDR a "Marxist". We shouldn't lump them all together.

The word "socialism" is a semantic minefield. Chomsky thought that anarchy would lead to "socialism". Von Mises thought that anarchy would lead to capitalism. Personally, I think that anarchy will give you a country like Somalia.

I think it was best said...

It is not what evil men do, it is what good men do in the face of evil.

they hold a piece of crap

they hold a piece of crap like Stalin in high regard even tho he murdered
20 million of his own countrymen?? wow what a joke!

as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD

20 million seems low

I thought the lowball number for Stalin's body count was about 42 million according to a book called something like "Death By Government," though I do not remember who wrote it.

well 20 million Ukrainians

well 20 million Ukrainians he starved to death! I'm sure the total toll is much higher!

as for me and my home, we shall worship the LORD

depends

Fortune Favors the Bold

whether you count people murdered by the regime exculsively, or also people killed through forced labor and the famines caused by the disastrous policies.

Fortune Favors the Bold

What Idiots!

What do they not understand about IT DOESN'T WORK!

The idea of "limited government"...

...simply doesn't occur to most Europeans. The importance of commodity money never occurs to most people. In my left-wing days it never dawned on me.

Occasionally, I would encounter an Ayn Rand devotee on the internet. They would always be American, and I would always write them off as utopian idealists who liked awful pulp fiction and didn't understand the monopolistic strangle-hold of Finance Capital on the world's markets and governments.

Didn't they understand that Big Business was in bed with Big Government? Didn't they understand that capitalism meant endless wars for the conquest of new markets? Didn't they see the wasteful anarchy of boom and bust economic cycles?

Of course, I was the hopeless optimist. Not them. I was the guy who wasn't deterred by the historic failures of the command economy. This time we would make it work!

Ron Paul gave me an entirely new perspective.

-"Ron Paul cured me of my predilection for Che Guevara T shirts."

Good to hear.

I was exposed to the philosophy of free-market capitalism since I was very young from my family. I thought this way all my life, so I don't know what it's like to have converted. This is probably much more likely in American familes than in other countries, because of the strong individualist tradition here. We're you brought up in a pro-socialism family?

Strangely enough...

...neither of my parents would consider themselves to be socialists. But then again, if you asked a typical neo-con or liberal if they were socialist, the answer would be "no".

In all honesty, I indoctrinated myself. Many people can look at the state of the world, their country or the economy and see that something is wrong.

But what exactly? That's where things get tricky and controversial.

I can look back at my former "comrades" now and say that they were well-meaning, highly-principled individuals who were just plain wrong.

There really is no such thing as "brainwashing". Some psychologists recently did a study into failed suicide bombers. Now if anyone is "drinking the kool-aid" it would be the suicide bombers right?

Apparently not.

I see.

Thanks for the reply. I've always wondered about that.

I don't know

shall I laugh or shall I cry!
BTW: all the banners, flags and bills look brand new. I always wonder where these small groups get their money from.

Dr. Paul cured my apathy

Ron Paul was right

I wasn't optimistic about London for the July 12th March.

Now you know why :-(

The CPGB-ML never used to wave Stalin banners around. They wouldn't dare. The party must be on the rise.

They most likely financed the banners themselves out of their own pockets. They already own a community centre in West London - Saklatvala Hall.

-"Ron Paul cured me of my predilection for Che Guevara T shirts."

Seems like

Collectivism is still getting stronger at least in the UK. Even if this is a fringe group, it says a lot if their numbers are rising.

Dr. Paul cured my apathy

Ron Paul was right

True.

Its not just the far-left. Fascist organisations like the British National Party are also gaining a foothold in local council politics.

I just hope that the USA can lead by example and show Europe that government can actually shrink and that people would be better off for it.

-"Ron Paul cured me of my predilection for Che Guevara T shirts."

WTF

Unmitigated ignorance.
