ha ha I'm still new here, but i find it funny that some people at the sight of Bobby Barr avoid him like the plague and make fun of people that support the guy, but some of these same people praise Dennis Kucinich like he's St. Peter. I'm no rocket scientist, and even I can find a problem with that scenario.

By non-libertarian stances, do you mean the stances that he held before he saw the light, left the GOP, and became a libertarian? Or are you talking about stances he currently holds?

I met Bob Barr up in Vegas at the Freedom Fest conference. He could not talk to me, just walk away. He avoided my questions. I soon found I was not the only one he avoided. And its not as if my questions came with attitude or where mean spirited or loud. I was stunned that he walked away, no answer, just walked away. Latter that day, I found that I was not the only one he did this too. I can't imagine Ron Paul every just walking away from any potential supporter or voter.
Barr is short, very short, like 5'6. My take on him is that he has the small man chip on his shoulders .... is angry at the Republicans and this is his way to get back at them. He is after Ross Perot supporters, not Pat Buchanan supporters or Ron Paul supporters.
Take the Legalize Drugs position. He has not "seen the light" and does not see or think or say that actually, its the hardest of drugs that Should be legalized first. He does not get the damage at all. Watch him on Beck or respond to Sean Hanity.
Watch him on the terrorism question ... he is not a NON-interventionist....just not for the Iraq War, which is a different question all together.
I also met Wayne Allen Root. He tells us he plans to be the next libertarian presidential candidate for the next 4 campaign cycles.... Yikes. This man is looking for the "magic words" but is no principled libertarian. He is someone who loves the libertarian sizzle, bought the sizzle, thinks he can grow the sizzle some more and sale the sizzle to America..... What the steak is, he has no clue. I asked him, "What are my individual rights?" and his answer tells any libertarian that he is really a conservative who "Still doesn't get it". Gee, how hard is it to recall, LIFE , LIBERTY, and PROPERTY? Answer, not hard for libertarian but amazingly difficult for a Conservative who can only recall the jefferson double liberty phrase, "in pursuit of happyness". Sadly, we libertarians wish Jefferson never scratched out Property and wrote that phrase, but fortunately some of us do read John Locke and our state Constitutions where it can be found. Anyway, for Barr and Root not to know the 'root' principle of libertarianism, that is Individual Rights, and thus its NonAgression axiom, is just terrible and inexcusable.
And its not as if he does not know what to say.... just listen to Ron Paul call for the IRS and the Fed to dissolve amoung other things. But like most conservatives, little bobby barr has a hearing problem.
Wayne Allen Root has "political ambitions". Watch out for that one in years to come.

Well, libertarianism encompasses a fairly broad range of positions. There are anarchists, minarchists and those that simply believe that however much government we have today is way too much.
By "seen the light" I did not mean to imply that Bob Barr is now some kind of anarcho-capitalist. I meant that his positions have changed considerably since he was a Republican congressman impeaching Clinton.
Yes, he's not the ideal libertarian candidate, and he's no Ron Paul but he is the only candidate who will be on the ticket in most states, and can garner most of the votes to promote the pro-liberty agenda.
If you want your vote to represent the pro-liberty position, you must vote for Bob Barr. Voting for anyone else, even writing in Ron Paul, simply will not count, and will ultimately work to oppose liberty.

big picture, it would be nice to see the libertarian party to have a good turnout. but the idea that writing in Paul will not count and works to oppose liberty is ridiculous....it's exactly those people who will write in his name that have some of the strongest convictions and will seek to educate others. In the end that's what's going to work if anything will. the libertarian party does not create additional patriots.... it's simply an umbrella for the existing ones. In order for us to restore the republic and the constitution, it takes people like Ron Paul to create new additions.
in the shortterm, small picture, you may be right.
in the big picture, you only gain additional patriots by humans educating each other. Ron Paul and people like him inspire this.
Without additional patriots, restore the republic is just a slogan.
that's the big picture. so yes, Bob Barr and the Libertarian Party is a useful "leg" as you might call it, but leave the disciples alone. Their roles are more important then this leg.
Barr takes the Constitutional position. He says he doesn't want the Federal government involved. Whether he is in favor of the states legalizing drugs is irrelevant, because it's still the Constitutional position.
He's definitely not an interventionist, as in a nation builder or neocon.
What does it matter how tall he is?

Ummmm....
Nice production values, and nice message -- but it doesn't fairly present Barr's program or record. Works better as a Ron Paul piece, frankly.
Face it. Barr isn't a Ron Paul Libertarian -- he's Libertarian Lite. His non-libertarian stances are conveniently omitted here.
...and then you omit them
...and then you omit them yourself. Now that's convenient.

Their role is most important.
