Beware Charismatic Young Man Who Promises Change
A letter to the editor from a Patriotic Cuban American
From Richmond Times-Dispatch, Monday, July 7, 2008 ~
Dear Editor, Times-Dispatch:
Each year I get to celebrate Independence Day twice.
On June 30 I celebrate my independence day, and on
July 4 I celebrate America's. This year is special, because
it marks the 40th anniversary of my independence.
On June 30, 1968, I escaped Communist Cuba, and a few
months later, I was in the United States to stay. That
I happened to arrive in Richmond on Thanksgiving Day is
just part of the story, but I digress.
I've thought a lot about the anniversary this
year. The election-year rhetoric has made me think a lot
about Cuba and what transpired there. In the late
1950s, most Cubans thought Cuba needed a change, so
when a young leader came along, every Cuban
was at least receptive.
When the young leader spoke eloquently and
passionately and denounced the old system, the press fell
in love with him. They never questioned who his friends
were or what he really believed in. When he said he would
help the farmers and the poor and bring free medical care
and education to all, everyone followed. When he said he
would bring justice and equality to all, everyone said,
'Praise the Lord.' And when the young leader
said, 'I will be for change and I'll bring you
change,' everyone yelled, 'Viva Fidel!'
But nobody asked about the change, so by the time the
executioner's guns went silent, the people's guns
had been taken away. By the time everyone was equal,
they were equally poor, hungry, and oppressed. By the
time everyone received their free education, it was worth
nothing. By the time the press noticed, it was too late,
because they were now working for him. By the time the
change was finally implemented, Cuba had been knocked
down a couple of notches to Third-World status. By the
time the change was over, more than a million people had
taken to boats, rafts, and inner tubes. You can call
those who made it ashore anywhere else in the world the
most fortunate Cubans. And now I'm back to the
beginning of my story.
Luckily, we in America would never fall for a young
leader who promised change without asking, what change?
How will you carry it out? What will it cost America?
Would we?

This might be the reason Obama sounds so much like Castro.

Now I am going to have nightmares!
Thank you for that article! I had not seen it yet and I would reccomend everyone to read it if you haven't! We are on such dangerous ground and so many are just blindly following along!
There are so many pieces.. it is like a giant puzzle and all the pieces start fitting together... but I don't like the picture it is going to make!

HAVE A CIGAR
Come in here, dear boy, have a cigar.
You're gonna go far, fly high,

And did we tell you the name of the game, boy
we call it Riding the Gravy Train.....
We heard about the sell out....
You owe it to the people. We're so happy we can hardly count....
It's a helluva start, it could be made into a monster
if we all pull together as a team.
And did we tell you the name of the game, boy
we call it Riding the Gravy Train.

Sweetness
...now I'm going to have to put on some Floyd and read those marijuana decriminalization posts again ;) Nice poetry, too!
Interesting likening of Obama's rhetoric to Castro's; there's also those nice deja-vu moments with other nefarious figures in history, such as Obama's rhetoric to a rather large crowd in Berlin, or the unending line throughout the history of humanity of those who thought pre-emptive war should never be off the table. The insidiousness of the threat, extolled through political lullabies for the masses, worries me to no end. How ironic the agent of the status quo is wrapped in proclamations of progress, idealism and "change."
But so it's been since the dawn of our awakening as a species. At least when the evil overlord aliens come to enslave us all, with sweet sanguine promises of comfort and easy living in their castles in the sky, we'll be so used to getting screwed by our leaders and fellow man that we might actually have a chance to tell them approximately where and how to stick it, provided we don't self-destruct before then.
As one among the elite Patriots, I feel like a guardian of humanity. I mean really, the original Revolution was an enormous paradigm shift in the awareness of what government can and ought to be for free people, and all of us are fighting for the right to evolve intellectually, physically, and spiritually, all in our own individual way, in the sheer face of tyranny and collective oppression, however underhanded and sugar-coated the means.
Damn. I love you all so much.

Nice Reflection, Hobbes
You understand well the role for the remnant.
While you are kicking back, listening to your Floyd, enjoy these pertinent posts from the past:

Thank you, LibBerte
Good stuff. That made my evening, what with the casual and consistent blowing of my mind. Also fascinated by the obvious parallels of the Remnant and the Revolution; indeed, we did find our prophet, and continue to watch for others and communicate with voices whose faces we've (mostly) never seen, in the dark, as it were. Luckily we have the internet to facilitate our communication and voices, and our gathering is really starting to make some noise; thunder and black on the horizon, instilling icy tendrils of impending uncertainty as a puppet master grips the railing of his shining balcony, gold painted and slowly chipped away, the ugly black metal beneath reflecting nothing, wondering aloud where he put his jacket.
