Energy Supply Solution
Submitted by liberty4us on Fri, 08/01/2008 - 07:33I am done waiting for our traitors in Congress to act on the energy issues stifling this country. I want to bypass these self serving morons. I want to encourage all the oil, natural gas, electric, and other energy companies to get busy drill, mining, or whatever gets us more home grown energy. And forget what the feds say! Because I will pledge, and I would hope others would also, to vote not guilty if they are charged with any violation of federal law (and maybe state law). I believe the government doesn't have the authority to restrict our energy supply and want to show them that their stupid laws are meaningless when confronted with a jury that says so. We the people still have the power to make things happen, we just need to come together and make it happen.
Please contact your local energy company, and those evil oil companies to start getting busy with energy production.

Support the "Pickens Plan."
Support the "Pickens Plan." He's already addressed congress. Things are moving. It sucks now, but I watched his congressional testimony. He is currently building a wind plant that will provide 4000 megawatts. Warren Buffet is also investing in massive alternative power generation (according to Pickens) in the midwest. Private individuals and companies are picking up steam on this, it is just going to take some time. Pickens himself demanded that the government either help, or barring that, get out of the way so that private individuals can do it. We'll see...
Pickens Plan questions
So is he asking for subsidies for this plan?
I looked at the website but could not tell if this is some sort of private venture or if he's trying to "educate" everyone so that we'll write our elected officials to push for subsidies for his windfarms.
I'm thrilled if he's tackling the problem as part of the private sector; I want nothing to do with it if he's gonna get tax dollars to make a private profit.
Mr Pickens has PLENTY of his own money.....And should be able to raise plenty more via his oil buddies to make something like this work. I also have a concern with private property rights issues....forcibly taking private property thru eminant domain to install those massive transmission lines is a highly likely scenario.
Part of the problem
is that Congress (with the exception of Ron Paul) is refusing to recognize and industrialize hemp for biofuel and ethanol production. Hemp is FAR better than corn and it produces 18x more energy than corn. It amazes me how our elected officials talk about how they want to make America's energy supply more secure, but yet they won't recognize Ron Paul's Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2007. If they really cared about weaning America off of foreign oil they would industrialize hemp, and start producing hemp ethanol and hemp biofuel. It just makes sense: America's security is directly linked to the industrialization of hemp.
better yet...
shop locally.
install a programable thermostat and raise the bar
make your own deisel fuel with grease
get an extra propane tank and purchase propane when the price is low
use a wood burning stove
install a solar panel
collect rainwater for irrigation (or drinking/showering with filter)
use your bike
recycle
reuse (i just made a sidewalk out of upside down wine bottles)
etc.
the free market is the solution and if we all did a few things it would change the marketplace
Not likely
I don't think I should change my lifestyle because some a**holes in congress want to restrict energy supply and distort the market. I want them to get out of the way or be pushed out of the way. If market conditions cause me to do your suggestions then so be it. But we have a distorted, manipulated, and corrupted market caused by our congress. That is where to start fixing the problem.
