Tipping the Balance, Part II
Many people have been inspired by my friend Todd's post about taking direct, personal responsibility for spreading Ron Paul's message of hope and freedom. See Tipping the Balance for the story of how he personally delivered the message to comedian Lewis Black. He didn't wait around for anyone to tell him what to do. He had a great idea and acted on it.
Todd's idea is to distribute Ron Paul's book, The Revolution, A Manifesto to as many 'movers and shakers' as possible - i.e. - to people that have a big influence over other people.
As we were talking the other day (Todd is a neighbor and a personal friend of mine. He is an alternate delegate for MA District 8, and I am an alternate for District 7, and we will see you in Minnesota!) we were brainstorming about other influential people that we should get this book into the hands of, and how to go about it. We set up a special section for this in the Forums section titled, "Tipping the Balance," for ongoing news about this project. Participation is open to all - let your imagination run wild, and as Dr. Paul says, have fun!!!
At this point, we'd like to open up this brainstorming session to the community here at the Daily Paul. Let your imagination flow! Don't worry about how to go about it, we'll work on that next. So let's come up with a list - who are the most culturally influential people that are open to the message and who should read this book? Post your ideas below.

"6 Degrees of Separation" Confirmed
There's an MSNBC article out today confirming that the "Kevin Bacon" theory of connectivity is pretty accurate:
Microsoft study confirms 'Kevin Bacon' theory - Survey of instant-messagers finds any two people just 6.6 degrees apart
Excerpt:
Which means that any contact name brainstormed here in the Tipping the Balance project is valuable, and should not be thrown out. Oprah herself might not read the book, for example, but what about her production assistant who might inadvertently pick it up in the production office? He may then send the book in another direction, but not necessarily an ineffective direction; to the contrary, it could even be greater.
Here's my wish: a truncated pamphlet of Manifesto which highlights the main points (say, 10-12 pages in length), for those who are "too busy" to read a whole book. Yes, I know RP's book is short, but executives and other very busy people often want the bullet-point summary. Those who would refuse a book might accept a pamphlet.
The pamphlet ends with an order form. The reader can send in the form get a full copy of the book sent to them at a very reduced rate ("free" often implies "not valuable"). Those who choose not to send in the form are at least likely to glance through the pamphlet, which in itself can help plant a few seeds. Also, this could be a cost-effective way to distribute excitement and interest in the book at fairgrounds, to people standing in line at the movies (or in line at their now-closed bank), etc.
Just another idea for the arsenal...
Top on list should be
Top on list should be religious leaders and organizations, i.e. Dobson. Also well known megachurch pastors and denomination/conference presidents, on down the line.
Don't forget the audio version too. Very nice for busy people, those who travel often.
Trust in God, but tie your camel tight.
"Socialism needs two legs on which to stand; a right and a left. While appearing to be in complete opposition to one another, they both march in the same direction." - Paul Proctor
How about Oprah?
I can't think of a better person to spread the message to America. She gets people to read books!
Come on, Oprah made Obama.
Come on, Oprah made Obama.
That would suggest
that she REALLY needs a copy of the manifesto...
Joy Behar would probably actually read it
She has been quite receptive to Ron.
The Book
Well-known life coaches and motivational speakers with massive audiences (Ron Paul's positive message of personal freedom & responsibility would sit well here).
Nice Burlington
That's a good idea...I second that.
this is what I am doing
Ron Paul is always saying have fun spreading the word of liberty. Well, what better way than to start a free movie night in the community center where I live? Put out fliers to invite whoever is interested in showing up.
I will show a new movie every week, from the One dollar dvd project and have copies of Ron's book along with extra dvds and some Restore the Rebublic magazine.
I have contacted the council for permission to use/rent the building and I have other logistics to figure out, but first things first.
Hopefully I can recruit other Paulites to help with questions and info. Seems like a fun way to help wake the sleeping!

AHHH HERE'S A DECENT IDEA...
Not really related to the book, but here's a pretty good advertising to try and reach college students across the country...
So ads in student newspapers are dirt cheap (around$ 35 ), so we can try to get an ad in every major universities student newspaper to check out the Campaign for Liberty which couldn't be a bad thing...
So if a University has a Ron Paul organization of some sort maybe they can donate a few bucks to place an ad in their newspaper...
What do you think?
something even cheaper
google ads.
obama has them everywhere. i have NEVER seen a ron paul one.

Michael, I have been saying
Michael, I have been saying all along that this book is our best weapon (see post http://www.dailypaul.com/node/52155 )
Also I added this reply to post http://www.dailypaul.com/node/46974

What an impact this could make. Dr. Paul has given us this amazing book. Just think of the impact this could make if we attack this with the same zeal that we achieved on the big money bomb days. Then we were just giving money and never truly knew how it was spent. By buying and giving out these books, we ensure that this message of freedom can be spread far and wide over and over again for years and years. Books last!
In each book I buy and pass out I am putting the following message on a blank shipping label attached to one of the front blank pages:
Hi and welcome to the r3VOLution,
Please when reading this book, don’t read it as a Democrat, or a Republican. Don’t read it as a Liberal or a Conservative. Read it as an American who values your freedoms.
If you enjoy this book as much as I did, please pass it on so that this message of freedom can reach others. Better yet, buy several copies and pass them out as I have with your own message. If you read the book, you know that the small price of a few books will be returned to you 100 times over if this message ever sticks.
In any case please E-mail me and let me know what you think of the book and how you are going to pass this message on.
Thanks and enjoy,

I have received some very positive feedback from people who have actually taken the time to read it. One of my co-workers read it and actually bought several copies to pass out her self. This book is a powerful weapon we all should be using.
How about Bob Barr and Wayne Allen Root?
When I was at the Freedom Fest in Las Vegas, I talked to both Barr & Root. Both told me that they HAD NOT read it. .... but both wanted to know, "How can we get you guys in the Revolution to support our campaign?"
Well, READ doctor Paul for one. Second, say the things he says number two. And three, mean it.

Just some brainstormed ideas I'm gonna toss into the ring...
If I was a sheep who would I love...
1. I didn't think Angelina Jolie was like-minded as us, but apparently she is a fan of Ayn Rand and so much so that she is going to play Dagny Taggert in the Atlas Shrugged movie which is currently being put on ice. So if she's a fan of Ayn then maybe we can show her the way back to Ayn's philosophic roots.
2. The sheeple like American Idol and those other lame shows (ie Dancing with the stars, The Bachelor)...so maybe we can convert those hosts and what not...
3. Apparently Stephen Colbert is a Ron Paul fan so maybe we can concoct some way to use his fame...
If I come up with anything more I'll post them...
Isn't AS on ice because
Isn't AS on ice because Ruppert Murdoch bought it? Fat chance of him ever releasing it from his slimy fingers...

There has been 8 bank
foreclosures so far this year. Think about all those people in one place standing in line angry, awake and ready for truth. We need only a dvd, cd, or slim jim with internet web sites, information on what is happening. The last bank is located in Florida if you live in Florida check it out. You don't have to say a word just walk by give them the info and maybe a bottle of water to comfort them and be on your way. Peace Patriots

How about...
County hospitals in bigger cities? They have a captive audience every single day including weekends.
A few fliers here, a few dvds there. These folks are caught in a system that they know very little about. Lets educate them.

Clint Eastwood?
Famous movie TV stars with good values morals.
Michael Moore?
What if he could make a movie about Ron Paul revolution?
That would be a huge one!

"But, indeed, no private person has a right to complain, by suit in court, on the ground of a breach of the Constitution. The Constitution it is true, is a compact, but he is not a party to it."
This is a great idea
I've often thought that we will know that this movement has really taken hold when it's cool to be a freedom advocate. To do this, we need to have some people in places of influence - especially in the entertainment world - who are on board with us. The guy who was wearing a BreakTheMatrix shirt on Fox News is a good start, but now we need to see this kind of thing regularly on shows like Entertainment Tonight and in People Magazine, etc.
Since I live in LA, I have a few ideas about how to spread the word amongst the 'cool' crowd and the entertainment business - things like DVD bombs in certain neighborhoods that are home to lots of artistic and creative types such as script writers, actors, directors, musicians, etc. I'm not the type to go hunting down celebrities (heck I can hardly name any of the current crop since I almost never watch TV or go to the movies any more), but maybe it's time to do one of those "see the homes of the stars" tours and take notes on names and addresses for future DVD deliveries...

people who campaign for
people who campaign for their elected officials at the local level-they knows alot of people and do alot of talking. sheriff, pto presidents, educators, American Legions, local athletic "stars"-ALL adult atheltic organizations(alot of them travel and would need a good read:) and for a real strange one waitresses of country clubs, they would have something to talk woth their guests about and a quick mention of the revolution could change a life as we all know.

your local chamber of commerce
though, that may be speaking to the choir??
Think global act local too
I agree with Todd that converting a few from the top will have a huge impact on quickly spreading the word but don't forget the Priest's, Rabbi's, etc that live in your town or city. Also, all small towns have a local news paper, get to know the editor and talk to him/her. I have a ton of luck in checkout lines here talking about dropping the state income tax, a great way to open into more topics.
PS Mike, All of the Alternates from district 10 are Ron Paul supporters so you will have plenty of company at the RNC.
Yeeehhaaaw!
District 8 - Todd's district - was a clean sweep as well. All 3 delegates, and all three alternates. My district got 4/6: 2 of 3 delegates and 2 of 3 alternates.
Great suggestion about the local influencers. I live in a small town - Arlington - just 50,000 people or so. But it has its own newspaper - the Arlington Advocate. I should start reading it...
F O R M - here is just one way....
A simple tool to help you talk to anybody in five minutes about the message of liberty. The letters stand for Family-Occupation-Recreation-Message. That is all you have to remember, the rest will come with practice. People like it when they get to talk about themselves, while you are looking for a way to relate Dr. Paul's message to them personally. This is an old Dale Carnegie "How to Win Friends and Influence People" sales technique.
Family -
(sample questions)
Do you have kids?
Where is you family? / Where do you come from?
Do you get "home" often?
What brought you to here?
What do you love about raising a family here? / Being so far from home?
(Most people will just start complaining.)
Occupation -
How is your job?
Hours? / Commute?
You must really love your job! (Opens the door to complaining.)
Do you have a second or side job?
Does your wife work? Does she love her job?
Recreation -
What is there to do for fun around here?
What do your kids for fun?
What did you do for fun back home?
How often do you get to do that nowadays?
What are you reading?
What do you watch on TV?
What do you think about the news nowadays?
Message -
Now you know how to apply some aspect of the message to that individual. Not everyone is going to be turned on by "no tax on tips" or the immigration issue. Is inflation or the job market making it tough to make ends meet or requiring them to work extra? How is variable interest affecting their mortgage payment? THE GOAL OF EVERY CONVERSATION IS TO SCHEDULE ANOTHER CONVERSATION.
Do not get discouraged with this. You will only get one or two people out of ten to get excited and wish to hear more, the others are just asleep. Exchange phone or email contact information. Invite them to a meetup or make a bookstore-coffee date and invite another friend or two from your meetup group to go along. Once you have made a date with one person, invite other people you talk to. Excitement is contagious, people get it from each other, and it spreads fastest in small groups of 6-10 people, where 2-3 are committed (to keeping the conversation on track) and the rest are new. Remember, it is all about the newest guy. The conversation is all about the newest guy.
If this person has a social calendar, show a little interest and invite yourself along to HIS next gathering.
Now you have to get off of the computer. You will be far more successful in person than in chat rooms. Take Dr. Paul's new book and some slim jims and go do your laundry at the laundromat or sit in the bleachers at the park at little league practice; you will have a captive audience. :-)
