I'd love to see Alan Greenspan.

As much as some people love to hate him around here, to his credit he has always maintained that he prefers a gold standard over a Federal Reserve, that we would be better off without the Fed. He just worked there because if he didn't take the job someone else would. He calls himself a "libertarian Republican," and he is. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he voted for Dr. Paul in the primaries. He's written some great libertarian essays, including essays in support of gold, like this classic one: Gold and Economic Freedom: http://www.usagold.com/gildedopinion/greenspan.html

Would he show up? I doubt it. He's getting pretty old.

That'd be interesting

Personally, I would like someone in the libertarian movement (maybe Reason) to interview Greenspan over his hypocrisy (even though yes, he still seems to support a gold standard).

For ex. I think he could have easily (or at least tried to) pushed the Federal Reserve into the direction of a classical gold-standard.

This interview asks him about it;

in this interview on Fox Business: http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZjMQG3qUFKo It's one of the last questions. He's asked if we would be better off without the Fed. He agrees.

But check this out: "Greenspan recommended to a Senate committee that economic regulations all should be sunsetted. Senator Paul Sarbanes accused him of "playing with fire, or indeed throwing gasoline on the fire," and asked him whether he favored a sunset provision in the authorization of the Fed. Greenspan cooly answered that he did. Do you actually mean, demanded the Senator, that the Fed "should cease to function unless affirmatively continued?" "That is correct, sir," Greenspan responded. "All right," the Senator came back. 'The Defense Department?" "Yes." The Senator could scarcely believe his ears. "Now my next question is, is it your intention that the report of this hearing should be that Greenspan recommends a return to the gold standard?" Greenspan responded, "I've been recommending that for years, there's nothing new about that....It would probably mean there is only one vote in the FOMC [Federal Open Market Committee] for that, but it is mine." Liberty magazine (Vol. 5, No. 1, Jan./Feb., 1998) http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/3/4/05450/68826/854/96780

I personally don't see anything hypocritical about him. If he didn't take the job someone else would. It might as well by someone who prefers a gold standard that can say he does when asked about it.

I agree that it would be

I agree that it would be nice to fill the podium with principled conservatives...

..But it's hard to find any people who fit that description who are celebrities.

Name ten famous principled conservatives who aren't dead. I bet you a jelly donut you can't do it.

Oh yeah, he's a big 9/11 Truther.

Yeah right. He's much too rational for that.

I would think he would be there too.

It's great that Fox News picked him to be their legal expert. Couldn't ask for anyone better.

Kucinich Platform 2008

Yes, he has a few good positions, but does the Revolution support these policies??: (wikipedia)

-Strengthening gun control.
-Creating a single-payer not-for-profit system of universal health care that provides full coverage for all Americans by passage of the United States National Health Insurance Act.
-Guaranteed quality education for all; including free pre-kindergarten and college for all who want it.
-Environmental renewal and clean energy.
-Preventing the privatization of social security.

Is this what the Revolution stands for?

Health Care???

Universal Health Care a problem - I don't see the problem. Normally I would say no to such a policy until recently.

Today I was denied coverage because of a hereditary liver, pancreas, and blood disorder - which is TOTALLY contrallable and manageable WITHOUT PRESCRIPTION (that may be the problem). I was willing to pay for coverage LOL WILLING TO PAY LOL yet denied - When do Free Market Economics kick in.. ROFLMFAO - please tell me... I am only 35 and have a long life expectancy but can't get health care - BTW any smarty pants explain to me why you can't see a doctor WITHOUT health insurance - been to the clinics LMAO - the clinic guy in this town is excluded from the hospital because of "problems' LOL... not including his extremem misdiagnosis of my problem.

Maybe with universal health care it will be cheaper to cure disease rather than treat disease.

I really dont see the problem

Also, I have an aunt with liver, bone, and breast cancer and on chemo for a long time - when her health care runs out at the lifetime cap where will she go for treatment - takes 6 months on preexisting - but wait I just got denied because of pre existing LOL... What a shitty system.

I'm sorry for your troubles...

I'll let Dr. Paul explain...but if we implement a universal heatlh care system, where is the money going to come from? Our country is going bankrupt.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGpY2hw7ao8 (around 5min)

Troubles, Thanks but

not looking for apologies - sounds like lip service rhetoric to me "I'm sorry but ____". Looking for meaningful solutions. Maybe the country could go bankrupt on its people rather than its wars and aristocratopoly. Maybe the Morgans, Rockefellers, Bushes, etc.. should be sued for fraud, malfeasance, treason, etc.. and their money and assets frozen till they give back their stolen blood money. I get what RP says.. however, there is a body of law that says otherwise (rhetoric is great but when meaningful solutions are thwarted where does one turn). Not wishing health problems on anyone but maybe when something major occurs and you have NO ACCESS to health insurance you may wake up. OH SHIT.. I am sounding like the neocons wishing another terrorist attack. My how similar some arguments start to sound. I guess when bird flu hits and I can not get the "shot" because of LACK OF ACCESS to health care your apology will sound great at my funeral. Sorry to be so pessimisstic but it is what it is and that's all it will be.

What a great quote, can't get enough of it:

“In Germany, they came first for the Communists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist; And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist; And then they came for the Jews, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew; And then . . . they came for me . . . And by that time there was no one left to speak up.” -Martin Niemöller

One more thing

Maybe I should learn Spanish and sit in the ER and get free health care LMAO. But that is what this country does best - throw each other under the bus and say "I'm sorry but I am more important" - guess Rosa Parks blew that argument for everyone.

I wish (minus the gun

I wish (minus the gun control part). Those are the issues I disagree with Ron Paul on. If we want freedom we need freedom for all, including the poor.

Don't everybody kill me for saying that.

how old are you phil?? the

how old are you phil?? the socialist sytem which kucinich supports is what keeps people poor... you will always have some poor people in every society.. but when a congressmen openly votes for socialist laws it is inexcusable! kucinich is a socialist.. he does have it right on the war but that is all! he is not a friend of freedom, liberty or the constitution!

your either black or white.. there is no grey area when it comes to liberty freedom and the Constitution!

To each there own...

but please don't go espousing your ideas claiming that your a true defender of liberty.

For all those talking bad

For all those talking bad about Dennis Kucinch you should all know that Ron Paul said he would have voted for Kucinich if he wasn't running for president.

Here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJcnoDfFWhM

If one HAS

to vote for a Democrat, then sure, Kucinich doesn't look that bad, but that's not saying much. He's more anti-war than the rest of them, but just as anti-capitalist. Fortunately, we don't have to vote Democrat. We don't have to vote Republican either, which is good since Paul is now out of race. We can vote Libertarian. Or even Constitutionalist.

He doesn't quite say that.

But, sure, I would vote for Kucinich if I HAD to vote for a Democrat, because all of the candidates are anti-capitalists, and he's the most anti-war. But that's not saying much, because he's not remotely like Dr. Paul on anything but the war. He's against capitalism. In fact he made a name for himself when he was young by trying to stop Cincinatti from selling a power plant to a private company. Dr. Paul is FOR privatization of power plants. He's a capitalist.

They agree on civil

They agree on civil liberties too with the exception of abortion and gun control. Foreign policy and civil liberties are probably my biggest issues.

The only thing I have against Kucinich is his stance on gun control. I agree with him almost 100% on everything else. I still support the campaign for liberty though because I place such a high importance on civil liberties and foreign policy.

Let's Not Just Repeat Labels

Dennis Kucinich is not your typical smarmy liberal. It's also not fair to those of us who want to salute someone who courageously fights the good fight to dismiss him as a run of the mill socialist. Obviously, his domestic economic policies, or democratic policy agenda, are not what we endorse. If we want to encourage good things, we should look for occasions to reinforce good things with praise.

I don't think this should turn into a political endorsement thread, so I haven't posted this before. But I include it now to demonstrate that conservatives can find more to talk about with progressives like Dennis Kucinich, and perhaps this gives some insight as to why Ron Paul regards Dennis as a friend.

Now here is a summary of Dennis' record on abortion from a liberal website critical of his failure to fit their ideal:

“As a Congressman, Dennis amassed one of the most anti-abortion voting records in Congress, one especially unusual for a Democrat. Fair enough, Kucinich was raised Catholic. He voted to criminalize partial birth abortions, to deny American servicewomen the right even to pay for their own abortions overseas, to prevent Washington, D.C. from funding abortions for poor women with nonfederal dollars, against research on RU-486, even against health coverage of basic contraception for federal employees. In 1996 he told Planned Parenthood that he did not support the substance of Roe v. Wade. He received a 95 percent position rating from the National Right to Life Committee, versus 10 percent from Planned Parenthood and 0 percent from NARAL."

"Now that he wants to run as a progressive Democrat though, he is waffling all over that stance. He told The Nation magazine that "I believe life begins at conception and that it doesn't end at birth." (Huh?) He said he was not in favor of either a Human Life Amendment that would constitutionally protect "life" from the moment of conception, nor the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and presented his votes as votes not against abortion per se but against federal funding of the procedure…. And while told The Nation he was not in favor of "criminalizing" abortion, he voted for a partial-birth-abortion ban that included fines and up to two years in jail for doctors who performed them, except to save the woman's life. "

"When pressed, Kucinich said 'I haven't been a leader on this. These are issues I would not have chosen to bring up.' "

We should invite Dennis so we can salute his anti war and impeachment leadership. He has some good things to say to us and the world. We should keep the dialog open and show respect for his heroic stands.
