Please tell me about your Pre-Awakened Stories

0 votes

I am interested in anybody's stories that epitomize sheepdom or ignorance prior to becoming awake....okay I'll start...

During the first gulf war, I was a sophomore in college and some guy was selling a shirt that resembled the "Nike Swoosh Just Do It."

However, this shirt said "NUKE Iraq (with a swoosh) Just Do It."

I bought one for $10 (which was a lot of money back then to a college student)

I thought I was so patriotic and a good American, but I was just a dumbass, who was blind to reality...

Thank god for Ron Paul and all of you people. That Tim B is long dead.

Cheers,

Tim B

1992

The only party I ever joined was the Libertarian Party in 1976. I remained in the party only because I had no where else to go until 1992.

Nineteen ninty two, I was working as an inspector for the Los Angeles County Registrar's office with a distict of 10K voters. Bill Clinton was named president that year while I personally had what represented 10K ballots in my car waiting to be counted, as were dozens of inspectors lined up behind me. The election was rigged and I had no where to report it. I found Ralph Nader. Nader convinced me to register "Decline to State Party" and help work on a national campaign laws. Nader's presidential runs are not for him to become president, though he does have plans just in case..but the work has been about fighting for candidates's rights, because if candidates have no rights, what makes you think voters have choices and representative voices each election? No one I know has sued the government more than Nader, who has been fighting the corporate hold over American politics for decades and MSM likes Nader as much as Ron Paul. Ralph Nader has been easy to support for me because not only are his presidential campaigns grassroots where one meets and even works with allot of different third parties, Reform Party, Peace and Freedom party, Green Party, Constitution Party, Socialists Party. There are 36 registered parties in the USA, and then Independent candidates, in 2004 there were 136. So working with Nader was one hell of an education and we learned the "machine"..and the 21 law suits in 17 states from the Democratic Party in 2004, educated us about their dirty tricks. Antiwar, pro cannabis, anti war on drugs, pro expanding markets, stopping dependence on foreign oil, creating thousands of private EPAs instead of one big government corrupt one... Nader and Ron Paul are more alike than not. I have a beautifully framed "Bill of Rights" Nader gave me. Many of us were investing in the rEVOLution in hopes it would become an Independent campaign and we could employ our collective work to unite the conservatives on the left and right, to "take back America", from the neoliberals and neocons. Instead of working for Nader (allot of hard work but we get along) I decided to support Ron Paul, who I invested more, than three years of Nader campaigns. As it is, Nader is on the ballot here in CA, and I'll vote for him. I still have my Ron Paul bumper stickers and wear my Ron Paul tees (which I have a pretty neat collection from creative Ron Paul rEVOLutionaries). I admit, I LOVE Ron Paul more than Nader, and I guess that goes back to when I was a LP member.

I was watching a video on youtube, saw the towers fall,

I was such a sheeple that when I saw the reality of the towers you'll never believe what I did.....I CALLED BUSH TO TELL HIM. no shit. I was SHOCKED and figured he didn't know either.....geeze, can you believe it. His office told me I shouldn't talk about it.

A month later I heard Ron Paul say.....Just come home.

Without a doubt, reading "Atlas Shrugged".

My husband was going to the bookstore and I asked him to pick me up a copy (I have no idea why). I read it day and night (some days not showering) until I was through. It was like being hit with a lightening bolt -- moochers and looters.

The curtain parted.

Ron Paul "Sign Wave Across the USA" -- November 5th!

Watched Faux...

every day at lunch. Watched Hannity, and O'Reilly. Listened to Rush, Hannity, Lars Larson locally, and Glenn Beck regularly. Have always been Libertarian leaning, but they would never get elected. Bush said the "right things," so I voted for him. I have never voted for a Democrat. I was watching the debates, and I heard this congressman Paul guy say something to the effect of "they don't attack us because we are free. They attack us because we are over there. I mean, how would we feel if the Chinese were doing the same thing to us that we are doing in the Middle east?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I thought, man, that is a damn good point. Of course, then Rudy had to chime in, and Dr. Paul totally ignored him and made Rudy look like the bought and paid for lawyer that he is. Then after the debate, Hannity treated Dr. Paul like shit, and talked over him enormously. That really pissed me off. The following weekend, I spent at least 8 hours watching YouTube videos of Dr. Paul. That's all she wrote. I've been a Paulaholic ever since. I became a PCP in my district-as a matter of fact I just got a letter from the Republican party in my county in Oregon today. It basically stated that as a PCP, my primary goal should be "to get John McCain elected. No whining, no excuses. It's just something that has to be done." I ripped it up, and it is still in the trash where it will stay. I also got a donation request from McAnus last week with a FedEx Airbill reply envelope. I sent him some slim jims of Dr. Paul. I hope he enjoyed them, and thanked him for picking up the postage. No word from his campaign yet. I'm not holding my breath.

Thank you!!!

I just need to wake up some of my dumbass college buddies

Edit: sorry, that was directed to Michael Nystrom

Most ironic

I was "awake" enough to lean heavily toward the libertarians with my independent self. I realize I sheepishly voted for Ron Paul in 1988 and believed I was wasting my vote, so never even bothered to look at the name I voted for.

If only I had done my homework then...

Truth exists, and it deserves to be cherished.

What I thought was...

that Bush was the lesser of two evils. I thought he stood closer to what I believed than any of the others but inside I really didn't believe it. I didn't really know much about anything. The thing that started to peak my interest about the Governments "looting" policies was when a co-worker showed my and article about the North American Union on WND.com. Then when the Presidential race started another co-worker sent me a website that lined you up with the candidate that line up closes to your values and the first time I did it Ron Paul was my man. I thought who is that guy and blow it off, then I did it again later and he showed up agian, so I decided to look into his record and who he is. It was the first time in my life when I knew for fact who I would be supporting. It has been a ride and put me out of my comfort zone because no one believes in liberty anymore and when I explain things like "fiat money" they look at me like a "deer in the head lights". So I am greatful to Ron Pauls gumption and his dedication to protecting the Constitution. Thanks for asking for the stories, it is encouraging to say the least.

God Bless,

Warrren

Cheney

Not long ago I was venting to my wife about how evil Cheney is, and she reminded me that I decided to vote Bush in '04 because Cheney had the military "experience" to win the war.... It reminded me how blind I had been. Thank you Ron Paul!

I voted for Bush... Twice

yeah i guess that about sums it up, but it gives me good perspective into the minds of other people who were like me. I guess my core values haven't changed much, but I am no longer an ignorant fool in the political arena.

I was the neo-connest of neo-cons

I was all for the Iraq War. I used to defend Bush and what we did in my worldly travels - my European friends especially hated Bush, really down on America in general, and I used to argue with them all the time about why what we were doing was right.

As we were closing in on Baghdad, I was wondering when Saddam would let loose with his WMD's. I thought it was going to be like throwing a match in a box of fire crackers. Saddam was just waiting for our army to get close enough, then he was going to set them all off at once and wipe them out.

It never happened. Wow, that was puzzling; why didn't Saddam use his WMDs?

Living overseas, I was away from American TV and propaganda. The internet was the main source of news and entertainment. Early 2004, playing online war games. Someone in a chat room mentions that Bush is a "neo-con" and a "Freemason". I never heard those terms before. That intrigued me so I started researching... PNAC? Bush is in some other "secret society" called "Skull and Bones"? John Kerry, who is running against him is too? Discovered Alex Jones, Rense, Illuminati-News.com, and all about the New World Order. Learned how this all relates to the Bible. I was an atheist for years but obviously no more. I returned to God. Started telling others about the NWO. I returned to the US after being lured into, and set up for failure at a company that was a NWO front organization and basically kicked out of the country I was living in (that is a bizarre story in itself). I guess that was my punishment for being so vocal about it.

I never thought there could be a political solution to the problem since all top politicians are in secret societies and organizations like the CFR. After seeing this little "Ron Paul" pic (the "Founding Father material" pic)
several times on Alex Jones' website, I finally clicked on the link and WOW was I amazed by what Ron Paul was all about. Here is a candidate who is believable and is actually a REAL Christian - not a fake, pandering one like Bush or Huckabee, or in some elite secret society. He spoke the TRUTH. He talked about all the things we've forgotten in regards to what America stands for - like the Bill of Rights and the Constitution.

I'm still not totally convinced that there is a political solution to this problem, especially after witnessing in practical disbelief how the MSM, GOP and Diebold worked like a well-oiled machine to snuff out Dr. Paul's grassroots momentum.

I am {was} so ashamed...

of myself for "drinking the MSM kool aid" after 9/11.
I have always considered myself a libertarian. After 9/11 I was so pissed that we were attacked and all those innocent people died. I wanted revenge. I went to my older brothers house That day and ask him , why?
Why did they do that? All he could say was that they hate us. He didn't elaborate. I don't think he knew why they hated us. I started to buy the official story .
I caught the neocon virus.
My wife is a Democrat and was appalled at some of the things I was {honestly} "parroting".
So, I always have thought there are 3 sides to every coin, and decided to listen to the other sides of the story and see what makes most sense to me ,in my heart. I went back to my libertarian roots that I proudly considered my self to be.
Man , I had lost all my empathy listening to those hateful, neo cons.
I thought ,wow ,if I was an {for lack of a better term} Arab, I would be mad as hell after all of the things the united States has done to me. I stepped out side my self and looked at how I {or my loved ones} would feel if I was treated like a terrorist, just because I lived in a region that the US has decided is the axis of evil. Most Arabs are just like me. They love their children as much as I do ,they have no power to control the government they live under, they are innocent just trying to survive and make a living. If they do have anti American sentiments, it is to some degree understandable . They do it for the same reason I did it. They drank the kool aid and forgot that we are all human beings on this planet. We all have the same emotions and needs.
I was a little Leary of Ron Paul ,just because he was a republican . Then I listened to the man. He makes so much sense its ridicules. I tell every one about him,and I wear my passion for the man, and the movement ,on my sleeve.
I don't care if people think I'm un American or crazy or whatever. I know whats right in my heart and I am proud as hell to be A Ron Paul supporter

I love your candor

Tim,

It takes a real man to admit his mistakes.

I thought I was so patriotic and a good American, but I was just a dumbass, who was blind to reality...

Congratulations for having the humility to be a real human being! Apparently, judging by the number of votes that Ron Paul got, about 10% of the US population has that ability.

My story (which I only realized recently) was that in 1988, when I too was a sophomore in college (I'm 40 now), I tried in vain to get my dad (who is no longer with us) to vote for...are you ready for this...?...Dukakis!!! My mistake was similar to yours. I was so blind to reality that I didn't know my ass from a hole in the ground.

I was a liberal, completely brainwashed by my high school and early college education. I told my dad he should vote for Dukakis. No, he wouldn't, my dad said patiently and firmly.

Well, who are you going to vote for, I asked?

"I'll probably vote for the Libertarian candidate," my dad said.

It blows me away to think about it now, because my dad passed away in 2005. At the time, I didn't know who the libertarian candidate was in 1988, and I didn't care. Some minor third party - I wasn't interested.

Of course now we all know who it was - Ron Paul. And when I think back about my dad now, I realize that 1) he was a very wise man, and 2) somehow, he transmitted to me some very important knowledge, though I'm not sure how.

Like Dr. Paul, he taught by example. And he had the patience to put up with me as a punk kid, who thought he knew everything as a sophomore in College, who thought that Dukakis was the best choice for this country. He didn't scold me, or admonish me, or tell me what to do.

What a joke I was.

Thank you Tim, for this thread and for provoking in me, and allowing me to share this memory.

Michael

I'll be very honest with you

I'll be very honest with you guys here. It was 2004. Sometime during the first quarter of '04, I received my voting card and was registered as a Democrat (mainly because of hatred towards W). I was committed towards voting for Kerry because I thought he was the only anti-war candidate. I'll admit at the beginning I was too dependent on the MSM. I cast my first vote for Kerry. In January '05, I got serious. I remembered hearing about Nader and Perot. I did alot of research and found out about many other parties. I liked what the Libertarian Party stood for in general. In '06, I was still a registered Democratic voter and just wanted to vote the bums out. I voted Democrat in my Congressional District and a mix of Democrats, Republicans and independents for the other races. The more I read about what was happening, the more pissed I got. I finally figured out that I couldn't trust the average Democrat or Republican because they were the same (except for some exceptions). I waited for '07 with all my hopes up. I wanted to find a revolutionary candidate. I was torn between voting Democrat or Republican. My main issues were illegal immigration and the War in Iraq. In May of '07, after the heated debate with Giuliani, I found that person. Dr. Ron Paul. I'll admit I was considering Hunter and Tancredo (mainly because of the illegal immigration issue) before but Dr. Paul got me right away. Before Dr. Paul, I was a moderate Democrat but now I'm a moderate libertarian (but more of a libertarian streak). Dr. Paul taught me alot. Especially on the war and economy, I was stunned to hear such a clear and sounding message. That fight with Giuliani woke me up for real. The day after, I googled him to see where he stood on the issues and liked most of his stances. Ever since that day, I considered myself a Ron Paul supporter. I learned most of what I know about the economy thanks to what Dr. Paul said because he's a great and smart economist, he has a degree from Duke no less! Now, I mainly talk about the economy and what's supposed to happen. This whole experience will be cherished in my heart forever! I never want to see this movement die! You guys rock, no matter what's waiting for us in the future, the whole campaign and movement has really inspired me, you made me feel proud to be an American again (not that I'm never proud)!

wow.

you must be another head on my body because i think that i wrote your story there..........we're so close to one and the same it's f'd up!

88 too young to vote I did hear of Ron Paul's race and I attended a rally for Bo Grits.

I voted for Jerry Garcia in 92 by write in while overseas in the US Marines.

96 and 2000 Harry Browne (He told me about Ron Paul too he said Ron was the only honest man in Washington I wish Harry could have seen what Dr. Paul has done for Liberty)

04 Badnarik....

This year I am undecided...... write in Paul, Bob Barr or Baldwin.

I am leaning toward Barr and voting for him in all poles because I would like to see a ex neo con confess his sins in the national debates and call out McBama for the war mongering neocons they are.
Barr = "Turd Sandwich for Liberty"

Well, first I was asleep and dreaming that the gov't were all a

forgive me for I was once the biggest sinner of them all

Unlike most of you I have known about the Good Doctor for quite a while longer then most of you..As Ive wrote to you before my Sainted mother introduced me to him in the 70s because of his Pro-Life stance.Though throughout my life I have drifted in and out of knowing what was the TRUTH and total complacency{It is one thing to be totlally awkened but it is another to be awkened and then drift off to sleep again as I have done thruoghtout my life] . I did vote for Paul in 88 but at the time it was more for legalizing pot then anything else. In' the early 90's when I was in the Navy I thought that it was completely none of our bussiness to be in middle- east but like a good little sheep I went along with the plan.Since then I recognized the bullying of our .goverment with the invastion of Panamma, the Waco incident and the Oklahoma City bombing and recognized that things were only growing worse still I sit back and did nothing.I was also introduced to a great man named Bill Cooper {whom I consider the grandfather of our movement} He and Ron Paul were the only ones I had heard that would rail against the federal researve and one world goverment.I even voted for bush in 04 thinking it would end the war faster as a way of wanting to just get it over with boy was I stupid. When the primaries came up I was torn between Tancrado and Paul.Tancrado is a good man he admited "he loves Ron Paul like a brother"He is also is a backbencher like Paul and even was told by karl rove to never darken the doorway of the white house again. When the MOVEMENT came along I quickly jumped aboard maybe it was I wanted to be exulted for the sins of my past and maybe it was because their was enough of us finally waking up.I only wish that Bill Cooper could have lived to see this day he would have been very proud. My lesson in this sorted tale is for the young people of the r3VOLution once you are awkened please never go back to sleep to see your GREAT Country deteriorate before your very eyes.

Bob is that you?

Is your name Bob Barr?

Nice thread.

Raised Republican but I was really an Independent my vote has been all over the place. My thinking was to vote for the man not the party. I sensed something was wrong because the government was always doing such stupid things. I couldn't understand it because everything they did caused MORE conflict and chaos. Something wasn't right just that gut feeling. Even when 911 happened and I watched the building fall my first reaction was "Wow that looks like one of those control demolitions" but I thought no way it couldn't be."

Then one night in May I was clicking my remote and happened upon the debates. Wow! When I heard Dr. Paul it was like the room lite up. TRUTH is such a rare thing these days that when you hear it you get all giggling. I was hooting and yelling, it was so AWESOME! I had to know more about this man with such courage to tell the TRUTH. I asked my son to help me learn about this man on the internet (I didn't know how to use it). Well, the rest is history like everyone else this was just the beginning of the process called AWAKENING. Sometimes, I think maybe I wish I didn't know what is happening but thank goodness, those days are few and far between. If I never woke up I would never had the opportunity to meet some of the most GENUINE, SINCERE and INTELLIGENT people in the world. Here, is to TRUTH and INTEGRITY
Dr. Paul's finest qualities.

Prepare & Share the Message of Freedom through Positive-Peaceful-Activism.

And Nice Comment.

When I first heard Dr. Paul talk, it was on the debate about Blowback. I had a similar reaction to yours. Even my body physically reacted. When my husband got home from work and walked in the door, I all but pulled him to the computer and made him watch the video. It had that big of an impact.

Until that time I rarely got on the computer. When Napster first came out and before I knew it was illegal, I spent many hours downloading music. But that was the extent of my web surfing.

But after hearing Ron Paul, I spent hours reading anything I could find on him. I copied every good news item and used reams and reams of paper and ink printing out articles from the Ron Paul Library. I bookmarked so many links, made so many documents and finally locked up the computer. My husband then felt I needed my own computer. So now I have my own laptop.

Then after a while I found Daily Paul. At first I just lurked. I felt I wasn't knowledgeable enough to post anything. I finally got up the courage to post something. It was a flop. Ha! When daily paul was down all those days I was lost without it. That was when I knew I had become addicted to dailypaul.

Never be afraid to speak your heart.

Like many Fathers today

My child was taken away from me, I found a group f4j dot com 14 years later. This lead me to the Browns (NH) and others fighting the injustice in our so called "justice" system and countless other sites like Alex Jones. The point being I believed if I just did the right things the "system" would work. I allowed my daughter to be abused for 14 years based on this belief. Well I'm awake now and my "pre-awakened" story is a personnel nightmare shared by way too many others, so I'm glad you only got screwed for $10. You sound very young to me Tim so let me impart these words unto you "Think very carefully of the decisions you make today as they will decide your future for you".

Ughhh..

I voted for bush twice cause I had friends and family in the service. Then I learned about everything and still kicking myself in the ass for voting for him.

Only peace I get is knowing that Kerry was more of the same in 04 and that Gore is part of the whole kabal as well. So either way I voted wouldn't have mattered anyway.

We need to change the water and get them all out and get more Ron Paul types in. This means at every level of government.

Anyone ever heard that before???

Never again, though

Tim B

I have a merit badge for voting against bush twice!

I will always wear that badge proudly. Though I will admit that at the time I really believed that Kerry was a lesser evil. I am ashamed more of wanting to vote for a lesser evil than I am of being tricked by Kerry. But I agree, more of the same.

Nah I don't hold voting for bush against you. You have made your confession, and recited your 10 '9/11 was a inside job'. All is forgiven.

Not only did I vote against

Not only did I vote against Bush twice, I voted Libertarian both times.

Even when I listened to Rush Limbaugh, I knew Bush would be trouble. Although I must admit he vastly exceeded my expectations. If we have one more President like Bush, we are undone as a civilization.

My political genesis is weird, because I was a Libertarian-Republican hybrid for a long time when it was fashionable for a libertarian to be an anarcho-capitalist. Now it's fashionable to be a 'Republitarian', but I don't like it as a concept anymore. 'Republican' means 'treason' to me now.

I was so f. stupid that after USSR collapse I was thinking it will be global peace forever and that arabs hate the western countries because we are free and prosperous. Thanx to the internet I figured things out but took me like 3 years. For a long time I watched CNN and belived everithing they said...today I wish to have the money to sue them for brainwashing.

Between 1-10 I was almost a perfect sheep, I give myself an 8...I belived everything still I was smart enough not to join military or vote.
