We Are Beginning to Move the Rock of Freedom Uphill
By Tom Deweese Thursday, July 31, 2008

There is no question that the forces of freedom are facing serious challenges.

There are active battlefields on every front. Private property; personal privacy; national sovereignty; education; gun control; the sinking value of our money; the soaring national debt; rising health care costs; oil at $4 + a gallon; National ID cards and the growing number of surveillance cameras on every street corner; the never ending invasion of illegal aliens; the assault on religion; and the very creation of the Department of Homeland Security - which I believe to be the most outrageous, dangerous, anti-American government force ever spawned.

We are certainly going through a great upheaval. And fear and despair are growing with it. So many of us are looking down at our feet, with a long face and tears in our eyes. The Republic is dead. There is no hope. The shining beacon of freedom that once was the United States is extinguished - or soon will be.

There was a moment of hope. Ron Paul was running for president. The great knight in shining armor. The last great hope. The cry went out - if Ron Paul isn’t elected - the Republic is dead. This will be our last election. Paul, of course, isn’t going to the White House. Now we have nowhere to turn.

They control the media. They control the banks. They control foreign policy. They control domestic policy. They control the education of our children. The voting machines are rigged. We control nothing.

Go home. Prepare yourself for the long, cold, dark ages that are coming. Store your food. Hoard your gold. Hide from the forces of evil. No one will blame you. You have all the excuses you need to quit. To fade away. To lose. There is no hope. It’s over.

And don’t you think the other side hopes you believe all of that? Don’t you think they are counting on you to give up?

So go ahead and do it. Give them their total victory. All that’s needed is for you to do nothing. But, if you quit now, you’re going to wish you had given it just a little more time, I assure you.

The fact is, too many from our side are so consumed by despair and tunnel vision that they are missing some very exciting developments. I get e-mails daily shouting doom and gloom, no matter the issue - no matter the outcome of an event.

If Congress does something right - the doomsayers see a conspiracy in it. Said one letter I received - “aren’t they just letting us win a few battles to try to lull us into believing we are winning?” What level of paranoia is that person operating from?

Let me enlighten you to some events that have taken place this year - while so many from our side were preparing to wave the white flag and stick their heads in the sand.

First, it’s a fact that since the hated Democrats gained control of Congress two years ago, we have lost very few battles - and won a bunch. That’s partly because now, many Republicans are actually acting like Republicans again, blocking big government programs and working to keep spending down. Apparently the Republican Party’s real purpose in life is to oppose the Democrats - no matter what side of an issue they must take. And so it seems to work better for our side when Republicans are out of power.

More good news from DeWeese

There is a Daily Paul forum post with links to some excellent Tom DeWeese videos from the Freedom21 conference in Dallas: http://www.dailypaul.com/node/64003

Assault on religion?

Assault by religion more like it.
I doubt anyone her at DP is completely consumed by despair, or we wouldn't be here.
"The fact is, too many from our side are so consumed by despair and tunnel vision that they are missing some very exciting developments."
Sure some are, but what development do you speak of?
"That’s partly because now, many Republicans are actually acting like Republicans again, blocking big government programs and working to keep spending down."

OK, now I know you're smoking crack.

Blocking big government programs? Are you serious? Obviously not.

Not so fast

Enjoyed reading the article. However the title and your conclusion are a little too optimistic for me. "We Are Beginning to Move the Rock of Freedom Uphill" I would say that we "We are beginning to slow the rock of freedom's descent" Until we begin passing the majority of legislation that reverses freedom destroying laws, we are still going in the wrong direction. Look at it this way; if freedom were the lake, and the river coming in was the passing of laws that reversed freedom destroying laws, and the river going out was the passing of freedom destroying laws, then our lake is still going down.

Partisan blocking of legislation has always been part of the game that gives the appearance our government is working properly. They know that with each term they are "draining the lake"

It is important that we keep our chins up and never retreat for any reason. However, it is also important that we not delude ourselves into thinking we have gained control. This is going to be a long process with the possibility of a "major event" that will equal to a major break in the dam. Our goal is and should always be to gain a strong enough foot hold to stand our ground when needed.

I heard the arguement recently...

that McAnus must lose, because otherwise, the blaming each side will continue. If O'sama, Yo'Mama, O'Bama wins, then there is no one for the Dems to blame. It may be too late at that point though. The Repubs are, and will continue to take huge losses, until they wake up. I'm looking forward to Gordon Smith losing here in Oregon. Maybe we will then get a Ron Paul conservative to run in the future.

This is what I've been saying- I AGREE

We have a 'better' chance of people listening now that Democrats are (will be) in power. The Republicans turned a blind eye to the actions of their own party because -it was their party- BUT now that the Democrats will be in power, and 'sadly' for the sake of opposing the Democrats, they SHOULD start to act more 'Conservative' when the 'Democrats' start to pursue Government growth and hopefully get Republicans to 'act' more like Americans in return, (speaking out against unnecessary growth of Government- etc.)

We couldn't talk much sense to them WHEN they were in power because they were all too content with looking the other way when their party did something wrong- but hopefully when Democrats get in Republicans will start acting more like Republicans.

(Sad, and pathetic, but true.)

I wish people had the 'principles' to speak out against their party when they go astray- such as Ron Paul has done.

GO RON PAUL!!!!!!

I think we are making a difference

here and there. But I'd rather be electing a president.

Thank you....

we all need encouragement sometimes.

I'm ok with

the Republicans being out of power.
It's just the idea of the Democrats being in power that bothers me.

Fantastic article

Thank you!

Eternal vigilance! small victories can become BIG!

The DP is proof that the grassroots support for Ron Paul and his peaceful message of individual liberty is large, real, and not going away!

You must first have a horizon before there is a dawn.

The dark ages did not last 4 months.

While I agree that freedom is our destiny.

This guy, I fear, is fresh out of college.

WAHOR!!

Eternal vigilance is indeed

Eternal vigilance is indeed the price for Freedom. Rhino, you should read up on your history. We don't get to freedom without doing anything about it. The only way for evil to win is for the good people to do nothing about it. We don't get to our freedom destiny without doing it all the way.

Tom DeWeese is one of the most prominent freedom fighters in America and has been for many, many years. Hardly fresh out of college...

This article is from his speech at the Freedom 21 conference in Dallas, on July 26. He is the person behind the Freedom 21 conference and organization. He is one of the people that have done the most to expose and stop UN's "Agenda 21". "Agenda 21" is the hidden agenda behind a lot of what goes on behind the scenes and opposes Freedom in this nation and abroad. Look it up and study it if you have not done so yet.

Tom has some great videos on Agenda 21 as well that you might want to see.

He has also sent out millions of infomation packets to the people along the proposed NAFTA "super highway" to inform them of the plans for this land grab and how it has been implemented in secret.

Freedom Rules!

Thank you freedom for the info ...

When I first read it I thought it was a call to arms.

Your words bring a new perspective and I will do as you say:

Do some research.

The numbers keep growing now at 80,702!

Remember the Biblical story of a man who is asked by his king how he should be rewarded for I know not what anymore.

The man suggested that he be given a penny on the first day, then two pennies the second day and so forth for just one month or so. By the end of that time he would have all the wealth of the kingdom!

Each of us should appreciate that the future is in our hands, that if each of us does our job to grow the movement by spreading the word and passing the torch one by one our numbers will double and redouble.

It will get easier as time goes by because our growth will become visible and will become news.

Just as so many claim that Ron Paul has no chance. I recall Stephanopolis telling Ron Paul himself that "that is not going to happen" when he had asked Ron Paul what possible outcome there might be to his campaign and Ron Paul responded that "I could win" said matter of factily.

Do the math! 100,000 would become 200,000 if each of those persuaded just one more to join us. 200K would become 400K, 400K 800K, 800K 1.6M, 1.6M becomes 3.2M.

It is important for us to keep this in mind in the coming years, yes years. IF we all did the passing of the torch it could theoretically happen in one month but in fact in reality it will instead take years. Not everyone will do the job. Not everyone will take advantage of opportunities to pass the torch. Not everyone you reach will pick up the torch and continue to pass it on. So it will take years.

The day will come when the 1.1 Million votes Ron Paul received will become two million, then four million, then 8 million. Once the movement is that strong its viability will be more accepted. It will be easier to attract followers. But we want leaders not followers.

Our movement needs those who understand the ideas underlying our commitment to the cause of individual freedom not blind followers who do what they are told, vote as they are ordered to vote, who do not read the bills they vote for or against, who do not use their own judgment, who do not take the trouble and expense to obtain and read the books Ron Paul and his supporters recommend. Have you looked through the bibliography at the end of The Revolution: A Manifesto?

One of the books he recommends is Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. Ron Paul mentions he has serious disagreements with her but that it is still worth reading.
What are those disagreements? Why is it still worthwhile to read Atlas Shrugged? Have you read it yet?

Once you do you might want to find and read her journal. Essays from her journal were published in collections entitled The Virtue of Selfishness and Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal. In each you will find an essay entitled Man's Rights.

Find our for yourself what Ayn Rand believed. She did write book reviews of books written by the economist Ludwig von Mises of the same Austrian school of economics recommended by Ron Paul. Mises advocated the free market in such books as Planning for Freedom and Planned Chaos. His major work is Human Action. He demonstrated the fallacies of socialism in Socialism.
His Theory of Money and Credit should be read by the likes of Bernanke.

Take heart for the intellectual ammunition for our struggle exists in abundance. It is a battle of ideas rather than swords or bullets. The young people coming up in a steady stream are facing a life different than we did when wer were their age. I recall gas at under 30 cents a gallon, candy bars were 5 cents now $1.59, my rent for the two bedroom apartment in Flatbush, Brooklyn where I grew up was $42 a month, a quart of milk cost a dime! (1939)

The Federal Budget history is revealing. The first under Washington was 5 or 15 million dollars. By 1940 it was about 40 Billion, by 1960 it was 92 Billion, since then it has taken less and less time to add an additional 100 billion, Now it is 3,200 billion!

Believe me, Obama has further growth in mind.

Ideas move the world and "no armies can stop an idea whose time has come" to paraphrase Victor Hugo.

"I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine" Ayn Rand in Atlas Shrugged p731

Yes, my

son gave me her book to read. It was very good and I could relate my dad was a small business owner. I think the Freedom train is just warming up and hasn't left the station yet. Peace Patriot
