There is a monster in my Garden!

Over 2 nights something got (and I mean it left no sign) all of my pumpkins and squash. Pumpkins (approx. 10-12 )were the size of my head but nowhere near ripe. Squash were about ready. Did'nt touch my watermelon,tomatoes or anything else ( that was 2 days ago) Today one of my watermelons was cut in half as if you cut it with a knife down the middle. No sign of one half. The other half scooped out clean. Could be more missing. There are alot and not very big. I did'nt think they were ripe yet but from what the creature left looks like they are ready ,just small. Trust me it's not a human. Not where I live. One pumpkin was left with 2 huge bites out of it. Any ideas?

Where is that Martfuncher
when you need him? He would be able to to name that culprit lickity split by the evidence left behind in your garden. Funny too, as someone was just asking about him today. Sorry, no help here, the only monsters I have had to deal with were snails who patiently waited for my tomatoes to ripen before decimating them all overnight. Good luck, be careful and keep us posted.

Poo is a good point but I have'nt noticed any and you would think after eating all that.... Then again you know they say wild bears **** in the woods. Always have my gun ;)

Just came back in
from investigating further. I ca'nt be positive because my dogs (one of wich is very large) go out there with me. The pumpkin,squash,and what was zuchini patches do look rather trampled. But we got the zuchini yeild ourselves a while back along with the cucumbers. Looks like there are some coon tracks or maybe the fox that lives down the hill. But I definitly think I might be dealing with a small bear. Tracks are to wide and round to be from my dog. I could tell better if we would get a good rain. Found another watemelon good ways from the garden in the feild and another with a couple bites about twice the size of a human bite. Looks like whatever it was decided that one was'nt ripe enough. Dogs pretty much know better than to wallk on the plants and only go outside with me.

Feral Pigs?
What part of the country are we talking about? Wild pigs can devastate a garden in some weird ways. Would be hoof prints around like the one on this page though.

Virginia. Hanover county known far and wide for it's tomatoes. But we planted way too many plants. Only know of one pig incident in the area. A woman had a pot belly pig that got loose a couple time and was caught trying to mate with trash cans lol. But they moved some time ago. lol No tomatoe casualties so far.
Animals make giant messes.
If bears had visited, they would left very obvious evidence (you ought to see what they do to bee hives). Smaller animals don't eat that much, and leave bits and pieces scattered all over. It sure sounds like humans, but why they would cut a watermelon in half and leave part of it is beyond me.
At any rate, what happened to your harvest is a crying shame.
