Count me in to do what I can

Count me in to do what I can (you are the boss on this one...lucky me).
Location: Springfield, MO. 30 miles north of.

I was thinking of FidoNet myself

I used to BBS (and even ran a 12 line 'chat' system for a couple of years) in the early to mid-90's; but then the internet and lack of finances sort of steam-rollered over that operation. I started out on Prodigy at 2400bps. (I'm taking a stroll down memory lane! ) That was back in the old DOS days, and I may even have my old software around in a box, on 5 1/4 inch floppies no less. ;-)

If I had the funds for a few phone lines and modems, I was thinking of setting up that sort of thing myself -- so I think Alex has a good plan!

The only sure way of

The only sure way of communicating if the MIC shuts it down is radio. Any other Hams out there beside myself?... maybe we need to come up with a Liberty frequency on each band. This is the only way to be in contact in an emergency. Many of us hams have volunteered our time during catastrophic emergencies. We were the contact to Vietnam soldiers for their families.
Granted all that old tech got put aside during the invention of the web.
Time to dust off the hallicrafters and the dipole.....

that's the best idea I've heard all month!

probably all year... so we need a Hams for liberty website..or something like that. I've been interested in becoming a ham guy myself...where do we start?

i went to take the class...

and took my parents too. i quit going, they are both hams now.

UPDATE ON PLAN C>>>>>> PLEASE READ.....

If you would like to be an active part of Plan C... please either post here... or send an email to me at contact.... If you do please list --

---Your state you live in....

--- what city you are close to (say w/in 20-50 miles

--- What technical abilities you may have (you may have none.. that is OK.. but if you say know how to repair tv sets, or assemble computers, or can do basic repairs around the house... that would be helpful to know.)

--- would you be willing to assist for say 2 hours a month (at most) in this massive project!

THIS WILL ALLOW US TO MOVE FORWARD ON THIS A BIT FASTER AND BE PREPARED FOR ANYTHING THEY MAY "THROW AT US" (or attempt to take a way from us)....

Add me to the list.

I live in northeast Iowa. I can use hand tools.

I'm in!

Near Charlotte NC!! hmmm... I rewired a thermostat by myself once and I can use some power tools !

Good communication skills.
I want to be included also my best friend has same qualities and was a army paratrooper with the 82 airborne for 8 years until he found his mission in Panama wasnt to protect the constitution but rather a mission to aid the CIA take Noriegas cut in the drug trafficing buisness. Funny the CIA brings the drugs in and the FBI busts you and the government gains fund from the public.
We really need an army of people to begin the Constitutional Army of the United States.

We are in California about 1 hour from San Francisco. IN central Ca.

Will be willing to gather , plan, build ,design and band together for a free country.

Are you looking to adopt? ;-)

Thanks guys!! when you (all) find out .. you will be

I don't want to spoil the party... I think a stay-in-touch and keep informed 'back-up' plan is a great idea if we lose contact through this site.

BUT- how do we know who is on the other end of that telephone line?
For all of you leaving your information- DO YOU KNOW THE PERSON THAT IS COLLECTING AND SAFE-KEEPING your info?

This would make an easy and convenient round-up list of those 'in the know' if the list was in the wrong hands.

Thoughts?

No offence, but are you a

No offence, but are you a Patriot or a Coward?
Our Fore-Fathers dedicated their "lives and fortunes" to the cause of freedom. I do not hide behind my user name on this site and will start posting under my real name when they can program this system to still show my history here (I don't want to be the new guy on the block).
The only "fear" I have is that very few will wake up for a revolution.
I do not fear big brother...to do so would be to admit he has power over me and that the Constitution is gone. I readily admit it is ignored but it is not gone while patriots live.

I understand you concern...

however .. if you do a search and read everything I have ever posted... I think you will realize that there is not a stronger supporter of freedom, Liberty, or Ron Paul out there !! Every message goes to a non- descriptive voice mail. nothing fancy. I record the info. and thats it. If nothing ever happens , then that info. grows dust on it. After our Republic is on firm ground again. I will eventually throw it away. No one sees it, No one can find it.(I then put the records in an even safer place than I am at, just in case something happens to me...which again I am extremely careful of as well). I take peoples privacy extremely seriously. And if that is not safe then I don't know what is.

It is a wise thing to do a search of the posts of any person you suspect to be a troll or untrustworthy. If you click on the user name, and then click track, and you can find out everything that he/she have ever posted. Or if you have more questions, you can click contact, and ask them your questions. But to create doubt without doing one or both of those things is not a good idea. I took initiative, to set this up back in April when someone expressed concern due to the Daily Paul being down for a day or so. No one else was or did. I just wanted to create an environment where we could all communicate and feel as safe as possible in doing so. I have experience from a past career in setting up and running conference calls, so for me it was no big deal. I hope this helps calm your concerns. If you have more, please contact me at contact.

Thanks

BTW-- plans C which is being put together is a MASSIVE UNDERTAKING.. that is being done to protect our ability to communicate should the entire internet go down or we are censored to the point where communicating online is not even feasible. It will be announced as soon as its done.....

Thanks

I have been worrying about this.

Alex Jones mentioned on his show last week, that he is installing a FidoNet system, to allow direct modem connect, in case the Net goes down...

Next Scam: "Cash For Cash"

http://www.RonPaul2012.com

I've been trying to think of

I've been trying to think of how individuals can cooperatively build their own internet infrastructure, to reduce government control, potentially/eventually increase access speed, potentially/eventually reduce costs, etc.

After all, the internet is a bunch of separate networks owned by people/businesses/governments/etc, with contractual agreements dealing with their connections to someone else's network. Individuals generally pay one of these companies, an ISP, to use their network to access various servers and other computers on other networks.

I think the key to accomplishing this is to develop a system that's easy for individuals to duplicate, with specified hardware, software, and configurations. Individuals could do this out of charity for their neighbors while accepting informal donations for any costs, or they could do it as a business (likely facing government regulation).

A Linux distro (probably Debian or Ubuntu based) could be created specifically for this purpose, so an install would provide all the necessary software, mostly pre-configured (some configuration will likely still be necessary).

Wifi could be used extensively, since running cables all over could be expensive, as well as difficult to do across streets. Dealing with access out in the country where houses are far apart would be a challenge.

IPv6 could be used (might even be necessary), and additional security and anonymity measures could possibly be put in place.

I think the reason why this is even possibly a worthwhile idea is because of government regulation of the internet. What I fear is that attempting this would eventually lead to consolidation of our small individual "ISP's" into larger ISP's that are subject to the same regulation and corruption our current ISP's have, and then defeating the purpose of this idea. So if this were to be attempted, it has to be done simultaneously with fighting government regulation, since regulation is the direct cause of the problem.

Hopefully this makes some sense. If anyone knows of any projects like this that are already being attempted, or wants to help develop this idea, please feel free to reply to this comment and/or contact me. We'd probably have to setup a wiki, and chat on IRC (or maybe a forum) for sharing thoughts on this.

I think security and

I think security and anonymity are two big things that should be carefully considered in the development of this idea. Possibly something like Tor either built-in, or some modifications contributed to Tor so it can just be dropped into this system and used.

Latency is another concern. This idea will likely increase the number of hops from individual to website, likely to increase the lag for normal tasks online. And if using some form of "onion routing", like Tor, then the number of hops increase that much more.

Wifi networks

There are people already doing this with wifi from house to house. I can't remember project name, but there are one or two projects in the US that are doing this.

Yeah, I remember something

Yeah, I remember something about a project in Seattle, WA, I think, that's doing something similar with wifi. I remember seeing an article about some guy that started a business in Australia that's geared towards helping people become their own little wifi ISP's as well.

I personally don't want to restrict it to wifi, and I think it's important that there's lot of interconnectedness between all the small individual "isp's" in the various towns to ensure redundancy. Routing protocols could be used to help spread out the load through this new web. Some people that become these small "isp's" would keep their current ISP connection, so there's some gateways to the rest of the internet. Some people could even organize a way to pay for larger connections to the internet through T1's or T3's or whatever, which would increase available throughput for our web of networks to the internet. Most of the connections in our little networks would likely be 54Mbps (wifi) or 100/1000Mbps (lan), since that's the most readily available and affordable connections (as far as I know, anyways).

There would certainly be costs for doing this. Switches would be necessary. Small/cheap computers (to act as routers) with multiple network cards would be necessary. Cables would be necessary. Possibly some wireless bridges. How these costs are paid for is up to the individuals who put it together, whether they want to charge formally or informally for providing service for their neighbors, or just ask for donations, or whatever. They could provide information about their costs and what's been paid for and what still needs to be paid for to their users, and let users decide what they want to contribue, or they could just run it as a business and charge the users and shut off their service when they don't pay, or however they wish to do it.

Users would most likely have to pay for any hardware required to connect to the network, though it shouldn't be any more than some cable or a wireless card or bridge, or a cheap router, or lan card, and some people will already own what is needed.

Obviously some people still have to have connections to the internet (and it's up to individuals to decide whether they want to keep their ISP service or get a faster service, or drop their service entirely, and just use this web), or else we become autonomous without access to any real websites and other web services, defeating the purpose. So that means a project like this can't work without either people doing it for the cause and/or people doing it for profit, but I assume there will be people from either or both of those categories.
