"I'm voting for McCain" - Ron Paul Supporter
Submitted by abc123 on Thu, 08/14/2008 - 00:07
This is what my son told me a couple of days ago.
I was heartbroken - he volunteered during x-mas break in Iowa (23 hour bus ride one way), met Ron Paul, went sign waving with me and he "trained" me on how to canvas and we covered our district. We were even harassed by the cops when sign waiving.
When I asked why, he said that Barr has no chance and that McCain is preferable to Obama. I threatened to cancel his vote for McCain by voting for Obama (i'm getting sick to my stomach) - that woke him up a little.
Help - need someone smarter than me to articulate why this is not good so he can read it.

Here's another idea
Your son should be positive and idealistic, true? In any case this is how many are when you are young. Now why would be not be positive and vote for Barr (or Baldwin), rather than (negative) for Obama or McCain? Also, your vote does have an influence. When he voted for Dr. Paul and did more, there was about the same chance that Dr. Paul would win the primaries, than Barr would win the election. This did not stop one from voting positive? Also: if all/most would not vote for a person he/she thinks has no chance of winning, is it not your responsibility to vote for him? The message that the vote for Barr would send, would be powerful alone, regardless of who wins. After the Reform Party performance of 19%, fiscal responsibility and budget restraint became important with Clinton. Third parties in previous centuries had the leading ideas and contributed, when their ideas were taken over by one or both of the two big parties. If Barr and Baldwin perform reasonably well, it will force the GOP to move in the right direction and will make it easier for Dr. Paul & Co. to steer the GOP in the right direction.

WHEREAS the Republican Party is founded upon the conservative political philosophy derived from the principle that individuals are endowed not by the government, but by the Creator, with certain unalienable rights; and
WHEREAS the Constitution of the United States is designed to guarantee the unfettered exercise of those rights by strictly limiting the power of government, whose authority is derived only from the consent of the governed; and
WHEREAS the Principles of Conservatism promote Liberty, Prosperity, and Individual Freedom; and
WHEREAS the leading presidential candidate for the Republican Party, Senator John McCain, has consistently demonstrated a record of public service counter to the philosophy and principles of conservatism and the Republican Party as evidenced by the following facts:
1. He has a consistent pattern of shocking verbal abuse, including screaming profanities, against Senate Republican colleagues who oppose his bills in any way; and
2. He has exercised scandalously poor judgment by intervening with the federal regulators on behalf of Charles H. Keating, Jr. in the Savings and Loan Crisis of the 1980s; and
3. He has worked against the principles of the Republican Party, promoting greatly expanding federal regulatory authority in order to combat global warming in ways that would greatly burden the American economy, contrary to free market forces; and
4. He has fought the Republican Party to create the Patient’s Bill of Rights, which allowed the government to impose a set of burdensome mandates on insurance coverage; and
5. He has undermined the principles of a free market economy by voting for an amendment that would authorize the Secretary of Health and Human Services to implement price controls on prescription drugs under Medicare; and
6. He has worked against the Republican Party to make a mockery of the rule of law, promoting amnesty for 20 million illegal immigrants; and
7. He has voted to subvert American Sovereignty by granting consulting rights to Mexico concerning the erection of a southern border fence; and
8. He has undermined the Constitution and opposed the Constitutional duties of the Vice President to break a tie on judicial nominations; and
9. He has worked against Conservative principles, undermining the First Amendment by abridging the free speech of citizens partaking in the political process; and
10. He has consistently led efforts undermining Second Amendment rights by promoting bills which regulate all sales at gun shows; regulations which force gun-owners to purchase trigger locks, making their firearms useless for self-defense; regulations which restrict the legitimate transfer of firearms over the internet; and regulations which extend the restrictions of the Brady bill to pawn shops and gun repair shops; and
11. He has voted to use taxpayer funds to harvest stem cells from human embryos; and
12. He has refused to take immediate and direct action to protect the life of the unborn; he opposes the repeal of Roe v. Wade; and he opposes a constitutional amendment to protect all human life; and
13. He sponsored and voted for a 282% tax increase on cigarettes that would have unconstitutionally violated the First Amendment and increased the size of the federal bureaucracy exponentially by giving the FDA unrestricted control over nicotine; and
14. He supports raising Social Security taxes; and
15. He has broken with the Republican Party in strongly opposing President Bush's tax cuts in 2001 and 2003. He also joined leading Democratic senators in offering and voting for amendments designed to undermine the tax cuts.
Hope that helps. Have a great day. Vote Ron Paul-Otherwise

Try this
1. Take him down to the local barber and get his head shaved, this will get him ready for the draft.
2. Take him to the local foodshelf, tell him this will be where his family will be eating in the future.
3. Take him to the local Walmart, explain to him this is where he may end up working if he fails the draft exam.
4. Take him down to the local bank, tell him to withdraw all of his money and sell everything else he owns and enjoy himself, because he'll never survive the nuclear holocaust that's going to happen.
5. Take him over to the neighbors backyard campfire, have him state "my friends" before every comment he makes. Example: "My friends, the weather is great tonight", see how it is received.
6. Give him a virtual fema camp tour, tell him this is where the end of the line is for %50 of his friends.
7. Last but not least, tell him, never to take facts into account because most problems are in your head.
This ought to do it.
You don't just vote...
You don't just vote for who would mostly likely be better then the other candidate, you vote to support your ideals. Altho there is no way Barr or anyone other then McCain or Obama will win doesn't mean your vote is wasted. In fact your vote for a third party is even stronger.
Here is why: The more people support a third party candidate the more the republicans will have to give in to gain lost supporters. If McCain looses because Paul supporters went elsewhere, then next time around the Paul supporters will have more influence.
We may even get a more conservative candidate. If we vote for McCain then they know that not even being a liberal warmonger is going to scare away the voters, and our vote is wasted on bad ideals and the destruction of our party (if you are republican like me).
1 out of a million votes has more weight then 1 out of 50 million. Go third party. Give your vote some weight. Punish the system and reward good candidates or the system will never change. Otherwise your just being taken for granted.
It's not just about this election.
You could leave him alone.
You could leave him alone. If you respected his decision to support Ron Paul, then respect his decision to support McCain. You dont have to force things down his throat. He is (assuming) a grown man.
Of course you would say that:
You voted for McLoser in the primaries and you'll vote for him in the general. Who the hell do you think you are kidding around here? If you were any dumber and more sold out, you'd already be a Senator.
Bob W., Naples, FL
That doesn’t mean you
That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to talk him out of it, though. He’s about to make a mistake, somewhat like, though admittedly on a smaller scale, that poor Bay Area sap US troops found fighting for the Taliban when they first invaded. I would hope his parents made some effort to talk him out of it too, even if they ultimately respected his choice.
I see no mention that both candidates are CFR New World Order!
Tell him to go to the CFR website, and the Agenda 21 U.N. website, the Security and Prosperity Partnership website, www.spp.gov , these are actual government, NWO promoting websites and tell in detail of their plans. Of course, they make it sound all wonderful to be a globalist, North American Union, U.N.E.S.C.O, etc.etc.--but-----IF YOU LOVE LIBERTY and our constitutional REPUBLIC----all this must be opposed with our very being!
Have him watch The Creature From Jekyll Island by G. Edward Griffin! I know it is hard to believe these things are planned to DO TO US! BUT IT IS A FACT!!!
Whether it's Barr, or
Whether it's Barr, or Baldwin, or McKinney, or even (although barely) Nader, any of them would be better than McCain or Obama. I hear people say "I'm not voting for Barr because i disagree with him on this" or "Im not voting for Baldwin because I disagree with this".
My point is that there are issues with Ron Paul, that some may not agree with, there will never be a candidate (Ron Paul is the closest for me) who has the EXACT same views as everyone supporting them, so really we do have to vote for who is the closest to our own views, which means we are giving up some small views in exchange for a President that will MOST represent us.
Having said all that, if all of the supporters of all the candidates from the "fringe?" parties can organize, and support a common candidate, then we can win. We only need 34% to get the nod.
Between Ron Paul, McKinney, Baldwin, Barr, Kucinich, Nader and others, if there is 1 candidate that can be rallied around, and agreed on, then we can change the 2 party system!
We will NOT win if we maintain the attitude of "Im only writing in Ron Paul" or "I wont vote for Baldwin" or "I will not vote for Barr" and so on.
Paulers have been so amazing at organizing in the past, I think that we can get 1 candidate to support over the next 3 1/2 months, and if not win, at least shake it up.
People say there is no such thing as a wasted vote, but a spiteful vote is a waste.
that's funny that you
that's funny that you threatened to cancel out his vote...
Is he OK with being complicit with McCain's crimes?
Anyone who understands that McCain and Obama are two puppets on one master, and then votes for either one, will be guilty of whatever the "winner" is in my opinion.
Truth exists, and it deserves to be cherished.
Here's an email a "party
Here's an email a "party first" relative sent me yesterday:
Nobody likes to read a long, drawn out message . . .
So here's a summary of their experience:
CANDIDATE ~~~ CONGRESS ~~~ MILITARY
John McCain ~~~ 26 Years ~~~ 22 years
Barack Obama ~~~ 143 days ~~~ 0
*****************
Here's my response:
"Those are interesting figures... I suppose one could argue that Obama just hasn't had enough time to screw things up!
Anyhow, here's how I like to look at politicians (of course now that I am one I am excluding myself from this analogy...;-):
Let's say you a new neighbor moves in next door to you. For the first few weeks he seems nice enough, making small talk about how your yard looks, an old car he is restoring, your mutual interests, etc.
Then one day you notice your garden rake is missing. It's an old one your father gave you and it has a wooden handle with distinct red stripes around it. They just don't make them like that anymore.
A few days later you are chatting with your neighbor in his driveway and you happen to see a rake just like yours in his garage. Closer inspection reveals an unmistakable crack in the handle which you repaired several years ago and your father's initials are carved into it. You ask him if maybe you didn't leave it in your yard near his property, and he says "No, that's my rake. I've had it for years." You drop the subject and head home.
When you get home, how do you feel? Do you think you will ever be friends with him? Do you feel betrayed and wish that he had never moved in? Are you considering small claims court or maybe a fist fight? In any case I'm sure you wouldn't be happy.
I wrote this scenario because people often remark that they are voting for the lesser of two evils. Well, in my mind there is no such thing as "more or less evil". You can't be a little bit pregnant, a little bit dead, or a little bit evil. Evil is evil, period.
Remember that when you decide whom to elect to represent your values. They are re - "presenting" what you value to the rest of the city, county, state, or nation. And if you're not happy with how they do that, then don't support them.
As for Mr. McCain, his involvement in the Keating five incident and the large number of combat vets who have spoken out against him are enough to sour me on him as a candidate forever. (Not to mention his positions on illegal immigration, the 2nd amendment, internet privacy, etc.) Once he gets the nomination (assuming this occurs) I will not be able to publicly state these kinds of things or I could lose my seat on the Republican Party Central Committee for LA county, so I am saying them loudly now.
Then there's Mr. Obama:
http://www.judicialwatch.org/judicial-watch-announces-list-w...
A woman who is part of Judicial Watch is part of my local Republican group, and I can assure you they are a very solid organization.
So that's my fifty cents! (adjusted for inflation of course)"

voting lesser evil
I believe in voting for a reduced or a lessening of evil influence , verses all out evil . YOU guys scare me a bit with party rehteric similar to the other partys . WE are not in a party, but in an orgainization for freedom. What ever comes tomorrow or after a convention, I'll deal with then. WAIT & see is my theory. I cannot change anything at this point ,so what's the point? THE PRESIDENT is only one position . HE doesn't put the GUN to heads of the other elected officials who are bad mouthing every move he makes ( AFTER THE FACT).
HIND sight is always better then foresight. IT can make anyone look inteligent, even some members of Congress. STICK to your own convictions as to who you will vote for & see the BIG picture you are presented with & TRY to influence the future.

irrelevant
The results of this election are irrelevant; therefore, a vote for a third party, any third party, is a vote in the right direction.
Im voting GOP down the line
And then Im writing Ron Paul in. Thats the only thing I can do, I dont care for anyone else running. In my heart, my vote will never be wasted.
'Peace is a powerful message.' Ron Paul
I'm going to vote out all
I'm going to vote out all incumbents, unless they are on the up and up
Tell him:
That is what the establishment wanted him to do all along. He has played right into their hands. A vote (if counted) represents the integrity of a person. If they know better and still vote for evil, they are no better than the person they are voting for. A person either has integrity or they don't!
If enough people vote on his rationale, they will know that they can continue to manipulate voters.......send "them" a message.
Personally, I could never vote for either......EVER!

You need to..
send him to bed without dinner and cut his allowance.
To show how dishonest the polls are...
Let's take one of McCain's "safe" (Zobby) states, Texas.
Here are actual results from the Texas primary
Democratic: Republican:
Clinton 1,478,434 McCain 709,477
Obama 1,382,703 Huckabee 523,554
Total 2,861,13 7 Total 1,233,031
In other words, ALL the McCain, plus ALL the Huckabee votes do not equal Barack Obama's votes ALONE.
Now, tell me how "safe" Texas is for John McCain.
Very Simple Response:
~I will never again accept the lesser of two evils.~

McCain and Obama are working for the same people
A vote FOR McCain is a vote FOR Obama.......
A Vote FOR McBama is a vote FOR global Tyranny, opression, war, elite bankers, the Military Industrial Complex, Mandetory Medication, Corporate and Social WELFARE, and so on.
A Vote for 3rd party is a vote for Liberty, Freedom, and a restoration of the Republic.

So, to all of those who give in to the Lessor of Two evils, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM... not the solution.
Right On!
vote 3rd Party 2008!
lesser of two evils or evils of two lesser .....
no to McBama -
Vote For Freedom and for the MAJOR issues Ron Paul ran on ......
As the others illustrated....
...it's the lesser of 2 evils, or as RacerTim said, everyone wants to be on the winning team.

This one got a good response
I received an email to McCain from the friend of a friend explaining to McCain how she would vote for him with a heavy heart because his actions were so very anti-small farm. I was horrified, expressed that to the friend who had forwarded the letter and he suggested that I write to her directly. The letter I sent her changed her mind. Here it is:
Hi Betty,
I am a friend of Jack Smith’s. He passed on the letter you wrote to McCain. I made a remark to him about it and he said you are a great gal and suggested that I pass my comments on to you. So my remarks are in context, I live in Idaho, am sixty years old and have been a staunch Republican all my life. I remember arguing politics in grade school when I supported Eisenhower. It was National Animal Identification that really got me politically active again a few years ago. The learning curve was steep and the more I learned about who was selling out our nation, to whom and why, the more horrified I became and the more determined to fight them. Our nation, our morals, our money, our property rights and our liberty have been systematically dismantled over the last eighty years, but especially over the last thirty. We are being herded down an ever narrowing trail into a globalist-socialist state, where-in we will be nothing more than serfs unless we stop it.
That is why I was distressed by your letter McCain. He is one of the masters who is doing the herding. He doesn’t care that he is destroying you. He does not care about your heavy heart. He only cares that you buy into the fear of Obama. Now Obama is just another pawn of the same people that own and operate McCain. As long as we continue voting for and supporting this group that is destroying America, we are continuing to commit national suicide. The time for all Americans to say “NO MORE!” has come. The time to stop accepting evil by mistakenly thinking one is lesser than the other has come. If it has not, we will see the end of America in our lifetime. I have to tell you, I am very encouraged by the number of young people who have discovered liberty and the Constitution and are moving forward with the fight for freedom. I think we still have a chance to save our nation, but the time to stand up and do it is now.
Please read the article below from www.augustreview.com. It explains things very well. There are alternative people to vote for. Can we defeat Obama/McCain this election? Probably not, but we sure don’t have to support them. We do not have to give them our consent for what they do by giving them our votes. What we really need to do is send a message loud and clear by writing in Ron Paul or voting third party in the presidential race and working very, very hard to get a Republican congress elected to block Obama.

BOHICA!!
Nice letter
and very informative article.
Myth of the "Lesser of Two Evils"
Sounds like he's falling for the "Lesser of Two Evils" myth. The myth is that it assumes that you know which is the lesser of two evils.
For instance, in 2000, if you're a conservative wanting limited government, a humble foreign policy and preservation of our rights, who would you have voted for? Perhaps the $400+ billion prescription entitlement program, war in Iraq, Patriot Act and insane budget deficits wasn't enough. Perhaps, compared to Kerry, Bush still seemed like the lesser of two evils.
Were votes for Perot wasted votes? Perhaps even harmful votes... since it helped Clinton get into office? Or did it send a strong signal to the republican party that they needed to shape up (or at least pretend to) if they didn't want to lose this critical voting block. This is what the Contract with America was about.
The Lesser of Two Evils
is still Evil.
Bummer, caught up in having to be on the winning side.
If both are loosers or evil, then that is a no win vote. I voted for Bush/Cheney twice, what did I win? Forced freem money lending. I made and lost a fortune, watched two wars and now watch a a depression in the making.
If I would have been a winning democrat, I would have focused on goverment contracts, only to build something that could no longer be afforded, would have paid higher taxes and added millions to the welfare system.
The two party system is a looser all the way around, its either the Lefts or Rights turn to spend, devalue and remove personal liberties. Any good history book will point this out.
However, a third party vote will be counted as a voice for a group of Americans that have lost all confidence in the status quo.
Ask him, do you want to be on the winning side of a cheater/liar. Ask him what would he tell his children in a situation like this? He knows the answer, he's just caught up in winning, but the winning of what?
Inflation is Taxation, no difference. I tell people you can always print or earn more money, but you can't take back war or bring back the dead.
Best of luck.
The elections are rigged so it doesn't matter
The Revolution's role in this election is to let them know we aren't fooled anymore. Ron Paul and the Revolution threw a big rock in the primaries last year...and we will do so again in the next couple months.
Frankly, I'd love for all of us to buy a gun, take the day off to protest, and pay off a credit card on election day, it would be a real show of force. Guns=physical force...protesting=civil force...debtfree=economic force.
Anyway, after the election, we must really empower ourselves so our organizations are empowered. Then comes change.
