The above video is for those with a bit of hair on their chest. I am posting it because this forum has sooo many rap songs on it, I felt it might be time for the metal crowd to have a voice. If you believe that metal is 'satan' worshiping music, you may want to ask yourself why. I personally believe it has a bad rap (pun absolutely intended) because it deals with real life, not a bunch of lovey-dovey whitewash, or what some may call 'network/corporate radio'.

Thanks for checking it out, but if you can't understand the plainly spoken english within it, I will be back with the lyrics. Unless the thread just dies. wrk

Edit: Trivia first, then the lyrics
Slayer's 9th album God Hates Us All was released on 9/11/01
If you have seen Zeitgeist, you should get the irony....

Slayer
Eyes Of The Insane
from the album Christ Illusion

A soldier's heart
Reflecting back at me
I keep seeing mutilated faces
Even in my dreams
Distorted images
Flashing rapidly
Psychotically abusing me
Devouring my brain

The eyes of the insane
On a demented campaign

Tortured spirits
Will not let me rest
These thoughts of mutilated faces
Completely possessed
Fragmented images
Flashing rapidly
Psychotically abusing me
Worming through my head

Shell shock battle fatigue
Overwhelming anxiety
Flashbacks panic attacks
Death raising it's ugly face at me

Go to make it stop
Can't take it anymore
The dead keep haunting me
They just keep coming back for more

The eyes of the insane
On a demented campaign
Flashbacks panic attacks
Death raising his ugly face at me

Got to make it stop
Can't take it anymore
Death's face keeps haunting me
It just keeps coming back for more

(Lead - King, Hanneman, King, Hanneman, King)

Got to make it stop
Can't take anymore
Death's face keeps haunting me
It just keeps coming back for more

A soldier
Of misfortune
I owe my pain and suffering
To this hell
These demons
Ripping through my soul
Evil's relentless hostility
Won't let me sleep

Shell shock battle fatigue
Devastating insanity
Flashback panic attacks
Death's riding he's coming for me

Here is a song that is fitting

for today as it was in the 60's
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmysVoRBgyA

"Freedom is a right that can never be won in war, only by each individual "

great

post but thiers other metal bands Black Sabbath war pigs, Testament Practice What You Preach, metallica and justice for all, Black Sabbath children of the grave, Warbringer toal war and combat shock, Machine Head clenching the fist of dissent, Judas Priest revolution, Megadeth hook in mouth, washington is next! ,United Abominations, Amerikhastan, peac sells

Megadeth- Washington Is Next!
The quiet war has begun with silent weapons
And the new slavery is to keep the people
Poor and stupid, "Novus Ordo Seclorum"

How can there be any logic in biological war?
We all know this is wrong, but the New World Order's
Beating down the door, oh something needs to be done

There was a King, an evil King,
Who dreamt the wickedest of dreams
An ancient mystery, no prophet could interpret
Of seven years of famine, the wolf is at my door
As predicted years ago, that that was, that is, that is no more

The word predicts the future and tells the truth about the past
Of how the world leaders will hail the new Pharaoh
The eighth false king to the throne: Washington is Next!

Disengage their minds, sabotage their health
Promote sex and war and violence in the kindergartens
Blame the parents and teachers; it's their fault, "Annuit Coeptis"
Attack the church dynamic, attack the family
Keep the public undisciplined 'til nothing left is sacred and
The "have-not's" get hooked and have to go to the "have's" just to cop a fix

I am the King (an evil king),
Who dreams the wickedest of dreams
An ancient mystery, nobody could interpret
Of seven empires falling, the wolf is at my door
As predicted years ago, that that was, that is, that is no more

The word predicts my future and tells the truth about my past
Of how the world's leaders are waiting to usher in
The eighth world power of modern Rome: Washington is Next!

There was a King, an evil king,
Who dreamt the wickedest of dreams
An ancient mystery, no prophet could interpret
Of seven empires falling, the wolf is at my door
As predicted years ago, that that was, that is, that is no more

I am a King, and I dream the wildest dreams
Nobody could interpret
Seven empires falling, the wolf is at my door
Oh, that that was, that is, that is no more

There's something at my door, some ancient mystery
The future tells the truth about my past
And I'm the eighth false king to the throne
I've got you in my crosshairs, now, ain't that a bitch?

Washington, you're next!

I like the way you think!

Mustaine is a good guy, I'm glad he didn't turn into a sellout. Because, truly, Nothing Else Matters (puke) ;->

Testament/Slayer (wasn't that the Clash of the Titans tour?) at Red Rocks f---ing kicked ass!

Gonna go check out Warbringer. Thanks for the lead!

Good post. Music is great, ain't it? I've done quite a bit of writing myself lately about the FUBAR state of our world. Not metal, but it's genuine. You can check 'em out at:

The tracks of note would be "The Truth About Lies", "Fallin From Grace", and "We've Gotta Get Outta Here". Hope u enjoy.

Okay Young'ns

The absolute best, dare I say, metal?; band to me is good old...get ready for it....

Black Sabbath

By far the most important album or CD you could have in your collection is Black Sabbath's first album, "Black Sabbath". Besides that staple of perfection you really need to accompany that with, "Paranoid" but then again you would be a complete knob if you did not also have, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath".

Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor

Check out this song by Frank Zappa

video of the song here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdIh8sLg_X8

Frank Zappa
Dumb all over
(Zappa)
From the album You are what you is, 1981, (Bark 2-Barking PW2-37537)

Whoever we are
Wherever we're from
We shoulda noticed by now
Our behavior is dumb
And if our chances
Expect to improve
It's gonna take a lot more
Than tryin' to remove
The other race
Or the other whatever
From the face
Of the planet altogether

They call it THE EARTH
Which is a dumb kinda name
But they named it right
'Cause we behave the same...
*We are dumb all over*
Dumb all over,
Yes we are
Dumb all over,
Near 'n far
Dumb all over,
Black 'n white
People, we is not wrapped tight

Nurds on the left
Nurds on the right
Religous fanatics
On the air every night
Sayin' the Bible
Tells the story
Makes the details
Sound real gory
'Bout what to do
If the geeks over there
Don't believe in the book
We got over here

You can't run a race
Without no feet
'N pretty soon
There won't be no street
For dummies to jog on
Or doggies to dog on
Religous fanatics
Can make it be all gone
(I mean it won't blow up
'N disappear
It'll just look ugly
For a thousand years...)

You can't run a country
By a book of religion
Not by a heap
Or a lump or a smidgeon
Of foolish rules
Of ancient date
Designed to make
You all feel great
While you fold, spindle
And mutilate
Those unbelievers
From a neighboring state

TO ARMS! TO ARMS!
Hooray! That's great
Two legs ain't bad
Unless there's a crate
They ship the parts
To mama in
For souvenirs: two ears *(Get Down!)*
Not his, not hers, *(but what the hey?)*
The Good Book says:
*("It gotta be that way!")*
But their book says:
*"REVENGE THE CRUSADES...
With whips 'n chains
'N hand grenades..."*
TWO ARMS? TWO ARMS?
Have another and another
Our God says:
*"There ain't no other!"*
Our God says
*"It's all okay!"*
Our God says
*"This is the way!"*

It says in the book:
*"Burn 'n destroy...*
*'N repent, 'n redeem*
*'N revenge, 'n deploy*
*'N rumble thee forth*
*To the land of the unbelieving scum on
the other side*
*'Cause they don't go for what's in the
book*
*'N that makes 'em BAD*
*So verily we must choppeth them up*
*And stompeth them down*
*Or rent a nice French bomb*
*To poof them out of existance
*While leaving their real estate just where
we need it*
*To use again*
*For temples in which to praise
OUR GOD*
*("Cause he can really take care of
business!")*

And when his humble TV servant
With humble white hair
And humble glasses
And a nice brown suit
And maybe a blond wife who takes
phone calls
Tells us our God says
It's okay to do this stuff
Then we gotta do it,
'Cause if we don't do it,
We ain't gwine up to *hebbin!*
(Depending on which book you're using
at the time...Can't use theirs... it don't work
...it's all lies...Gotta use mine...)
Ain't that right?
That's what they say
Every night...
Every day...
Hey, we can't really be dumb
If we're just following *God's Orders*
Hey, let's get serious...
God knows what he's doin'
He wrote this book here
An' the book says:
*He made us all to be just like Him,"
so...
If we're dumb...
Then God is dumb...
*(An' maybe even a little ugly on the side)

Libertarian Metal

My vote for best libertarian metal album is ...And Justice For All by Metallica.

Check out the lyrics; it's pretty clear singer/lyricist James Hetfield has a strong libertarian streak. (I read an interview where he said he doesn't vote because that would mean going into the city. He just hopes they don't elect anybody who will come and take away his guns.)

Here's my own summary of the track listing:

  1. Blackened - A warning of the dangers of nuclear holocaust.
  2. ...And Justice For All - About the corrupt justice system.
  3. Eye of the Beholder - About freedom of speech and liberty in general.
  4. One - Based on the novel and film Johnny Got His Gun, the story of a WWI mortar victim.
  5. The Shortest Straw - About how someone always has to take the fall in a corrupt system.
  6. Harvester of Sorrow - Vague; seems to be about the self-perpetuating nature of abuse.
  7. The Frayed Ends of Sanity - About losing grip on reality and slipping into insanity.
  8. To Live is to Die - Instrumental tribute to former bassist Cliff Burton, who was killed in a tourbus accident.
  9. Dyers Eve - Hetfield was raised in the Christian Science religion, where they refuse medical treatment and pray for healing (his mother died young, of an untreated illness). This song is about growing up in a rigid, stifling, anti-libertarian religion.

Here's a sample, from Eye of the Beholder:

Independence limited
Freedom of choice
Choice is made for you, my friend
Freedom of speech
Speech is words that they will bend
Freedom with their exception

Do you need what I need?
Boundaries overthrown
Look inside, to each his own

Do you trust what I trust?
Me, myself, and I
Penetrate the smoke screen, I see through the selfish lie

Do you want what I want?
Desire not a thing
I hunger after independence, lengthen freedom's ring

2) Halls of justice, painted green, money talking...
those lyrics nail it quite nicely.

4) That author, Dalton Trumbo, was a communist party member. I never read anything from him, but I wonder what his book Gun Crazy had to do with...

Metallica, (or some would call them Selloutica) seems to walk the line between socialism and capitalism to me, so I really can't get into them much. I understand the whole intellectual property rights thing, but going before the senate to punish fans is a bit harsh, IMHumbleO. I received a copy of Ride The Lightening (bootleg) from a friend, was impressed, and went out to part with what little cash I had at the time to purchase a 'real' copy. I'm guessing that they would have prefered that I not give them a chance, or my friend shouldn't have helped spread their words and music??? I don't know, maybe I'm just splitting hairs...

I think you are splitting

I think you are splitting hairs. Music very rarely makes well-rounded political statements. It's snippets of thoghts. Justice was their most political album, and it's clearly got a libertarian streak running through it.

I cannot fathom how you could take Hetfield (the guy who wrote those lyrics) for a socialist. The guy lives out in the country and shoots guns and rides Harleys and rebuilds hot rods and takes big-game hunting trips around the world and is a general all-around individualist cowboy-type.

Ulrich donated to Edwards and is from Denmark, so he's obviously a lefty, but he's also pretty hardcore about his property rights (he was the instigator of the whole Napster thing), which is the heart of libertarianism. I find it quite amusing when so-called libertarians give Metallica a hard time for standing up for their rights. For some reason internet-libertarians think it's OK to treat online music in a socialist manner. I seriously doubt they'd feel the same if it was their livelihood. Google Ulrich's Senate testimony from the Napster hearings. His entire statement is online and it reads like Property Rights 101.

And who cares what Trumbo's politics were? If you're painting Metallica with that brush, you really are reaching. It's a great story about the horrors of war. Not all communists/socialists are evil incarnate just looking for some way to trample your rights. Most of them arrived at their ideology the same way you and I arrived at ours; they just took a wrong turn at Albuquerque and got mixed up.

----------
Liberty for Dummies

I worry about my own life...

so i didn't know, or care, about their lifestyles. BTW, i live in cowboy country, and they pretty much as socialistic as most, to paint with that brush.

ulrich is the spokesman for the band right? plus, wasn't there a few bands who supported the whole napster sharing thing? so, listening to him, i get a gross feeling...so what? like i said, the senate thing seemed a bit harsh. i ask again, do they prefer that i not be introduced to their sound by a friend? and again, if the music has real value, we will buy it.

i care what trumbo's politics are, well, not really, but for the sake of the conversation...i think you get my drift. ulrich was signing huge praises for trumbo in the one video/interview vhs THAT I BOUGHT. makes me a sucker though, i fell into their whole marketing trap, to be told what a great guy trumbo is.

their whole attitude seemed to change with the black album, and i lost respect for them. i have seen Slayer many times, up close and personal, in venues of less than 2000, and completely enjoyed every true-to-their-roots show. i saw metallica once after the BA, in a stadium, only because my son wanted to. btw, after the show, we both agreed that Limp Bizcut kicked their ass. their front-man went into the crowd, to be with the roots, which goes a long way for folks who are fans of a genre that is ALWAYS disrespected by the masses. king-god metallica seems to be to good for that, kinda unapproachable. and mustaine doesn't act that way. now HE is an individualist, that is why he is so hard to work with. you know how hard us hard-core Libertarians are to work with, right?

also, the whole freak/stoner/hippie/punk crowd is just crawling with 'so-called' libertarians, at least with the personal end of the spectrum, but not the economic end of the spectrum...freedom for me, freedom for thee, but no freedom for that man, behind that tree.

i don't mean to be devisive, so please don't you, (or readers) think this is a flame war. i'm not thinking that either, ala your albuquerque remark.

Slayer RULES, though.

Never mind, you're right,

Never mind, you're right, Senator McCarthy, the entire world is a giant nest of socialists and communists.

How silly of me to assume the lyricist wrote from the heart. What I fool I was to believe that the spokesman/drummer was speaking only for himself when he spoke of things outside the scope of the band. Clearly, his politics are Metallica's politics and the band is a hive-mind.

Thanks for setting me straight.

Mandatory Suicide
from the album South Of Heaven (yep, right here in the real world...)

Murder at your every foot step
A child's toy sudden death
Sniper blazes you through your knees
Falling down can you feel the heat
Burn!

Ambushed by the spray of lead
Count the bullet holes in your head
Offspring sent out to cry
Living mandatory suicide
Suicide

Holes burn deep in your chest
Raked by machine gun fire
Screaming soul sent out to die
Living mandatory suicide
Suicide

Lying, dying, screaming in pain
Begging, pleading, bullets drip like rain
Minds explode, pain sheers to your brain
Radical amputation, this is insane

Fly swatter stakes, drive through your chest
Spikes impale you as youre forced off the crest
Soldier of misfortune
Hunting with bated breath

A vile smell, like tasting death
Dead bodies, dying and wounded
Litter the city streets
Shattered glass, bits of clothing and human deceit
Dying terror
Bloods cheap, its everywhere
Mandatory suicide, massacre on the front line

and I'm supposed to applaud....

Wow,wow,wow

Very deep and enlightening. My take of it is a soldier with flashbacks of war that won't let him sleep. He is either killed in war or kills himself. Whatever, the real take is, the music is a way of releasing the anger, hate and pain. Actually, it would be great therapy to express and put into words what he is feeling. There is a place for this music I see why they call it Satan music. Maybe, Satan causes the pain that causes the music. I always thought that metal music was hard for a reason a lot of anger there. I can appreciate all music and what it has to offer. Rap, Metal, even the happy rosy music has merit and should never be dismissed. We have much to learn from it all it is the rhythm of life it releases emotion in us that we would not allow otherwise.
Peace and thanks for posting.

But remeber, we send our youth to war in the name of god, not satan. So really, it would be god that creates the pain that creates the music, right? And you are right, there is a lot of anger there...."I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it any more!" "I am a human, and my life has meaning!"---the movie 'Network'
