Battle Alert!!! Info needed regarding the defense of 1st amendment rights/political signs on private property
So believe it or not...In the great state of Oregon...in our small community of Philomath...the city ordinance against political signs has struck a couple of us.
One of my assistant organizers got warned last week to take down her political signs and then was fined today for $250 counterfeit banker notes. I was warned and will for sure get fined $250 next week.
I remember that these battles were fought and won earlier in the season and we are asking for more info on how to fight this.
We plan on asking for trial by jury and fighting this city ordinance. My only concern is that the first amendment only specifically prohibits Congress from making laws that curtail free speech and expression. Has the Supreme Court ruled that it extends further? How were the previous battles in the season won?
All info and input to defeat this city ordinance would be greatly appreciated.

Fight this - it is a good
Fight this - it is a good cause. While we hear of these threats going on, there are also people who are winning - an example from my side of the fence. I recently heard of a pro-life group and on a separate occasion an anti-war group, both peacefully and lawfully protesting. They were arrested, but after going to court and lengthy trials they both won. Thank you also for alerting us.

They successfully got their city councel to remove the ordinance from the books. You might want to try and find out how to get in touch with them and see if they can tell you how they did it. Then you could try and do the same thing for your area too.
