UPDATE: Hillary Can NOT Has Nom
EDIT: I knew my fellow DPers would be on the ball with this. Thanks for clarifying that this was a "nomination" to be "nominated".
On the plus side, my heart just got some good exercise without my having to run around in this heat...
---
I about fell out of my chair, but I quickly did get a screen capture to save for posterity. Here's the CNN International headline that just attacked my eyeballs on Google News:
Hillary Clinton formally nominated to be the Democratic Party's candidate for president
!!!!
Now, when you actually click on the link, CNN International's headline reads:
Democrats begin process of nominating Obama
In the sidebar on the right, however, where it lists "story highlights," it still says:
Hillary Clinton formally nominated to be the Democratic Party's candidate
You'll also see that headline as #1 on "most viewed" articles, in the right sidebar.
The text of the article read (as in, past tense):
DENVER, Colorado (CNN) -- Hillary Clinton was formally nominated to be the Democratic Party's candidate for president Wednesday, part of a choreographed arrangement expected to lead to the selection of Sen. Barack Obama later this evening.
(That was a cut and paste, there)
NOW ("updated 14 minutes ago", proclaims the top of the CNN Int'l page) the article on that same page begins:
DENVER, Colorado (CNN) -- Democrats on Wednesday formally began the choreographed roll call process of nominating Barack Obama to be their candidate for president in November.
????????????
If y'all are interested, I'll see if I can place my screen captures for you to see. Let me know if you want to view 'em.

She WAS nominated
Hillary was nominated to run for the Democratic presidential slot against Obama. See, the way it works is candidates are nominated, then the delegates vote to see who gets the slot.
The headline and text of the story was very misleading and confusing. This is probably why it was changed. It could have been either poorly written or the author may have been confused on what the nomination meant. This is one of the downsides of hiring brain dead journalists who can only write at a 3rd grade level and do whatever they're told.

No, she's just being nominated for the nomination.
yes, her name is being put formally IN NOMINATION. She's not being nominated, just considered. There's a difference between a candidate being nominated and winning the nomination.... In essence, she's being nominated for the nomination. Or to think of it another way, she's been nominated as A candidate for the presidency/Democratic nomination/candidate, but not THE candidate.....
this isn't really breaking news either, as this has been discussed in the media for the last 2-3 weeks. They already knew that it had been agreed as a service of respect that her name would be put in consideration for the nomination....
: Heaves sigh of relief :
Thanks, Voice. I evidently missed that discussion in the recent news cycles. Perhaps CNN changed their headlines because it could so easily be misinterpreted. I mean, for crying out loud, "Hillary Clinton Nominated as the Democratic Candidate for President" does pretty much sound like -- "Hillary Clinton Nominated as the Democratic Candidate for President"!!!
Still, I'd love to see an upset from the floor, as I noted in a comment below. I'd especially like to see that at the RNC, wouldn't you?? :D
that would be nice to see.
that would be nice to see. That'd be a dream come true.
it is confusing.... being nominated for a nomination.... it's easy to mix up.
Honest mistake. Not
Honest mistake. Not everything is a conspiracy.
Mistake? Mebbe. Honest?....mebbe.
:: looks at post ::
:: sees no instance of the word 'conspiracy' ::
They are in the process of counting votes. There are reports of people changing their mind about B.O. It is possible that votes are starting to tally up in favor of Hillary. Perhaps some overeager reporters had hopes to be the first to spread the news.
Not everything needs to be addressed as conspiracy chasing. :)
If such a turnaround did happen, I would take that as wonderful and encouraging news!
Why for, you may ask?
Democratic Convention:
- Everyone expects the Anointed to get the nod
- Instead, there's an upset from the floor, and -- surprise! -- a different candidate gets the nomination after all
- Eyebrows raise and jaws drop over at the GOP as they watch such proceedings, considering the precedent that might set for their own convention.
