In Government We Trust?
Ron Paul | Texas Straight Talk
Many who agree with me on a lot of other issues, do not understand my enthusiasm for gold and sound money or why I spend so much time studying and talking about monetary policy. It's true that I talk about money differently than most, but the fact is sound money offers many benefits. For example – peace.
Can sound money really bring about peace? Actually, it plays a big part in peaceful international relationships. Money based on commodities, rather than paper, is not subject to government manipulation, and is a key component to free and honest trade. History shows that if countries engage in trade with each other, their governments tend to find ways to get along for the same reason you do not kill your customers at your place of business, even if they occasionally annoy you. If someone outright cheats you, however, you may engage in “war” by taking them to court, for example, and the relationship will sour. Governments and central banks with unfettered power to manipulate currency also have the ability to cheat their creditors. One way they do this is to simply create enough currency to pay off debts. This devalues the currency and “cheats” the recipient out of what they are owed. It would not be fair if you watered down your product the way our government waters down its currency, so it is not hard to understand, in these simplified terms, why loose monetary policy contributes so much to ill will and war around the world.
Sound money, on the other hand, simply is what it is. Removing governmental power to manipulate money, removes the temptation for government to spend, print and cheat. Sound money ensures that our government’s spending priorities would be brought into sharp focus and reduced to only what we can afford.
Sound money also limits the ability to wage wars of aggression. Imagine how much more careful Washington would have to be about starting a war if they did not have this financial sleight of hand at their disposal! Fiat currency allows government do expensive things they should not be doing while paying the bills with cheap money. The Federal Reserve has lately been auctioning off large amounts of treasury bills as a way to finance the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and our crushing entitlement burden. The resulting devaluation of the dollar is quickly eroding our image as a good trading partner in the world. As a consequence, there is therefore more talk of economic isolation and war.
This vicious cycle of spending, fighting and inflating is not what Americans want. It is what the government wants, and it has had to deceive the citizens into allowing and supporting it. Sound money curbs the government’s ability to engage in these shenanigans and reduces the wars we fight to only truly defensive ones, for which Americans are more than willing to stand and fight. So in these ways, sound money is very conducive to peace.

A Mixed Bag Plan
I agree that gold and silver are relatively rare which could cause problems. But worse would be continuing allowing a fiat currency to be dispursed. It would be much more fair if the congress printed the fiat, but I just do not think they can be trusted to curb the inflation. Remember that politicians are elected for being good at pleaseing everyone, and making promises that can not be kept. In other words, it is not the most straightforward of professions.
Soooo, why not monetize everything. Everything with value that is. All precious metals and gems, any currency backed by anything of value, and fiat money (only congressionally created fiat). We can see if anyone will want to be slaves if they are not forced to. Obviously, there will be no capital gains on any of it. Or, for a little affirmative action we could charge some capital gains on there phony money for a time.
In a nutscell, we would be allowing competing currencies, getting rid of fractional reserve banking( you can print money but it has to be backed by something of value, and have government issued (created out of thin air) fiat crap. Absolutely not allowed would be FRNs, whereas a private crooks counterfeitting their own money, and backed by little or nothing, what a racket!
It would be like a big mixed bag of everyones favorite money. And with the Internet it will be easy to keep track of the different item. Then of course we should add up how much the crooks have stolen from us and do whatever we can to redeem some of it.
I agree with sound money...I do not agree with gold
With research green backs were relatively effective during Lincoln...who for some reason, many people have branded as satan.
I think the talley stick worked well in England.
The people who originally introduced gold as a "value store" are not the kind of people I am going to take my cue from.
Gold is limited.
An agreed upon amount of currency that circulates with adjustment for population growth seems preferable to gold which in and of itself is a control mechanism.
If you see the travails of gold in US history I think it would be better to leave it alone.
We have ALL noticed WHO controls the gold on planet earth and I would prefer not to base the future of my country in THEIR hands.
The base concept of Gold is fine.
I have been working for peace since 1968.
People just freak out about gold.
It is so darned emotional and the gold people are basically like religious fundamentalists.
Let it go. It is a form of mineral. It is pretty. Financial systems have functioned successfully without it.
Just pick a stick or a piece of paper, agree on it's value and circulate a non destructive amount. All the other clap was created by unrestrained governments to collect taxes and by rich people to try and control us.
I don't think currency needs to be emotional. I think it needs to be boring and functional...like a glass of clean water
I am not sure why the fed should be mentioned here. They are a criminal organization the leaders of which will some day face a judge. I don't see them needing much more mention than a jail cell.
F governrment.
Unify
With any currency that is
With any currency that is cheap to produce, there has to be someone centralized who controls how much of it is created and circulated. You then run into the problem of being able to trust whoever serves that role.
With an expensive to produce, limited commodity, you don’t have to worry about it. Instead, all you have to trust is that there’s no massive, cheap to mine reserves presently undiscovered; and that the laws of nature governing the difficulty of producing gold by nuclear alchemy will hold up. Given a choice between trusting man or nature, I for one will pick nature any day.
ha
I never thought of that. Someone has probably come up with a pretty good alchemy solution by now. It remains a secret until the time the people are forced to use gold again and then they got us again for another 100 years.
Counterfeit
Harmony. It's all about Harmony, and that is what a commodity based currency has the power to accomplish. It is acknowledged that our monetary system is controlled by political determinants, thus the danger is human and it is politics. The printing press of the Federal Reserve is being pumped by propagandists, war profiteers, and particularly interests that are un-American, meaning they are foreign.
The neocons are busy arguing for a continuation of the current foreign policy, arguing that world stability depends, essentially, on an American empire.

As the link above shows, the think tanks that think one way are disseminating their neocon propositions, saying that America should uphold a tradition of Empire, which Bush was just following, and the next President should follow as well. This book, this author, and this interviewer are part of the neoconservative flatulence that want to continue the plunder of America.
Enough!
We need to build political strength and political will.
We need to build political strength and political will.
If McCain does these 4 things
And, get the vote from the libertarian minded and evangelical conservatives.
Make As Part of the Platform and Top Priority several of Dr. Pauls Bills. I don't have the HR #'s off hand.
1) The Competing Currency Act.. Legalizing Gold and Metal based certificates as alternatives to federal reserve notes.
2) The Bill removing abortion from the venue of the courts and thus effectively overturning Roe V. Wade.
* This proves He is indeed a Federalist and Maverick.
3) The Same with Hemp, de-schedule and make it outside federal venue so American Farmers can grow Hemp for Food and Fuel in states that allow it and to protect the religeous freedom of adults.
4) Declare Victory in Iraq (It is true-we ousted Saddamn and now the "democratic' government wants us out).. We all know the base is going to be there under either party. But, this is a concession / compromise.
I Think if McCain did these 4 things. It would shock the world and a good portion of the RP coaltion would vote for McCain / Paulin.
I do like McCains VP choice. There still is the concern that they will keep poking at Russia with a stick and start a war. But, even Biden got on the Georgia bandwagon... So there is no difference between the parties on this issue.
What say you?
