Update: I'm trying to get to the Rally and it looks like I'll make it thanks to DP readers

It really hurts me to have to tell this story.

Since the moment the Rally was announced, I promised myself I would attend, hell or high water. I pitched the idea to my wife and we decided to make an end of summer road trip out of it in our VW bus and celebrate her birthday early. I had a moderate income thanks to payments I was receiving from a business I sold last year, and she only had two part time jobs which meant she could easily bend her schedule to accommodate our trip. I bought tickets the moment they went on sale online, and we reserved a room in Minneapolis (actually a suite because it was all we could find).

Then things started to change. The wife got a full time job offer which she couldn't pass up. This cancelled out any chance that she had of going. Then a few weeks ago the buyers of my old business told me that could not meet their payment schedule. I was able to stave off disaster by selling some stuff I no longer need, including my pickup truck. My never ending quest for a new career has just started showing some light at the end of the tunnel, but these new gigs will take a while to get me back on track if the buyers of my business go belly up. My wife's income alone is enough to pay our bills, but not enough to cover my trip to the Rally.

So I have my rally ticket, a plane ticket, and a few bucks in my wallet, but not enough to cover expenses like food, transportation from the airport to the event, etc., and I'm just dying to get on that plane tomorrow morning.

Many of you know how long I've been on this site promoting Ron Paul with all my heart and soul. Fellow DPer photoshopwiz is a friend of mine and was a fellow candidate for County Central Committee here in LA (I made it in and she missed by one vote!). She has already taken the Ronvoy to the Rally. Evan Cutler can vouch for the effort I put forth researching delegate addresses for DVDs4Delegates. In fact he chose me as one of about 30 people who put enough effort into the project that he offered to send leftover DVDs to some of my friends and family as gifts.

If you can relate to my plight and you're willing and able to help out a fellow DPer, I'll be humble enough to accept. I can envision a scenario a month or two from now when my wife's probationary period is over at her job and she starts getting benefits and raises and bonuses, and I'm moving along on my new career path, and the thought of looking back at the missed opportunity for a once in a lifetime event like this would make me really sad. It sucks to have to grovel like this to those I consider friends, but if anyone here is able to pitch in a few bucks - even $5 or $10 - so that I can make this event, I will be forever grateful and good karma will come your way! I will even do my best to pay you back as soon I am able. As soon as I'm done with this post I'm putting my iPhone on Ebay.

If you want to help me out, you can send me a personal message through they Daily Paul.

In Liberty,
vincebodie

UPDATE:

Thanks so much to everyone who has helped so far. It looks like I will be able to make it to the Rally and back home without starving myself to death! Lodging is still an issue for Monday night, and money is still tighter than I'd like. I will sleep on the steps of the Target Center if I have to! It looks like I have bed for Tuseday though, so I've got that going for me, which is nice... ;-)

I'm on my way!

First of all I got to the airport this morning and couldn't find my debit card... Perhaps it's a sign that we need to do away with this debt based monetary system and return to honest money.... After a frantic call to my wife we decided on wiring money by Western Union. Does anyone have any better ideas?

So are there any other Rally attendees who have a stopover in Dallas? I've got 3.5 hours to kill in the airport and 69 bucks in my wallet! Wouldn't it be a hoot if another DP reader was hanging out in the airport and saw my post... LOL

Anyhow, Minneapolis here I come! Thanks again to those who have helped make my trip possible. That $7 chicken pesto sandwich from Au Bon Pain was a necessary but delicious treat! I will never forget your generosity!

I feel you completely! I am

I feel you completely!

I am in the same boat. I had 2 people bail on me for this trip. The last person that I was going to go with bailed on me a day and a half before we were supposed to leave.

I've got my tickets right here. I need a ride though. IamVotingforRonPaul offered to help me out but we couldn't work out the logistics.

I'm watching the march with Ron Paul right now sitting here upset that I"m not there.

where are you

Oh man that sucks!

I've always enjoyed your posts and it would be cool to get to meet you face to face. So you've exhausted all of your options? How far do you have to travel?

I'm in Denver. At this

I'm in Denver. At this point in time, yeah, I've exhausted all my options. IamVotingForRonPaul originally bought me 2 tickets for the event. She bought them through JohnFromChicago and he was supposed to get them to me. Well, he embarked on some huge walk across the country to go to the R4R so it became difficult for us to communicate and work out arrangements.

I gave up on him and bought my own tickets. My buddy really wanted to go with me to R4R but he needed to do it on the cheap (as did I) so we decided to camp at RonStock, eat sandwiches from a cooler and rent a very small car (or even possibly a hybrid) to save on gas. We had budgeted $250 per person which should have been enough.

My buddy waits tables at some restaurant and typically makes pretty decent money. Unfortunately, business has been quite slow over the last month or so and he just hasn't been making much money at all. He wasn't sure about the trip but he requested the time off and I made all the plans regardless. He kept telling me that funds were low but we were planning on doing the trip so cheap that it should have been ok. Well, the last week he worked was also the week of the DNC and business at his restaurant was almost non-existent. He made no money.

By the time we had figured all this out, Ronvoy had already come through town (or I think was early the next morning if I'm not mistaken), I missed an opportunity to *possibly* catch a ride with one of the organizers for RonStock. I didn't budget for airline tickets so those were way out of my price range.

I posted a message here on DP confessing my problems and as nice as she is, IamVotingForRonPaul offered to purchase 1/2 of my airline ticket just to get me there. I called my buddy and told him that essentially someone was offering to pay for the car and gas and does he want to go. He quickly figured his finances and he determined that he would have only about $30 or so to go with. He didn't want to go to MN and come back completely broke and he wanted to pick up a few shifts at work during his time off so he again refused to go.

Airline tickets were over $700 and the logistics of me traveling without a car and by myself (oh yeah I don't have a cell phone either) would have been difficult and would have costed more than I had budgeted.

I've even got 2 tickets sitting here that I'm trying to GIVE away so that they don't go to waste and I can't even succeed at that.

Literally, everything with this trip just fell apart. I'm quite bummed over the whole fiasco but there isn't much I can do about it. I've now missed the march on the FED with Ron Paul. The autograph signing session is tomorrow and I had really hoped to get my really cool Colorado 'RONPAUL' license plate autographed.

Oh well, not much I can do about it now.

Thank God for Youtube :-)

Vince Is A Good Guy

I met Vince at the San Diego Ron Paul Book Signing. He has worked very hard for the cause of Liberty. Any of you San Diego or LA Meetup members help him if you can. He will go far in the years to come.

Oh thank you Steph!

We had a good time hanging out with Dr. Paul in San Diego. Who says a little rain could stop us southern Californians from enjoying the day?!?

Thanks for advice and the bumps Colognepaulist and moonslippers

And to Steph for PMing me and offering a donation, it's appreciated! I have already thought ahead of ways to do it as cheaply as possible... It's been a long time since I was a college student, but I will do my best to revive that vibe. Perhaps I will see a Costco and I can flash my card at the door and go inside for some free munchies! I should also mention that I am going to be representing Jerry Day at the Rally in the hopes that I can help bring him together with some of the "movers and shakers" in the freedom movement (is that an oxymoron?) for some top notch video efforts. All the more reason to not let anything stop me now!

I bet you can hitch a ride at the airport into town by just

about anyone if you held up a sign that says you need a ride to the rally...and there was a post I read on here (sorry don't know which one ) that suggests all the different places there are to get free food samples. I bet there will be plenty of free food being handed out as samples at the various grocery stores-just ask for them. Hey doesn't sound glamorous but if you were starving you would ask. Don't put your iphone on ebay just wait it out and act like a college student. GET ON THAT PLANE!
also I believe there is a train that goes into town from the airport for free...

I have no idea what "PM me" means. Please use plain english for those not fluent in web abbreviations or whatever it is.

Sorry, personal message.

I have changed the link above. Also, I should mention that I can provide space in the suite for anyone who needs last minute accommodations and can pitch in for it.
