so that they can figure out how to descriminate, isolate, and neutralize their impact at the RNC. Then they could divide us by saying "see, Ron Paul is cooperating with us and therefore so should you."

is that some McCainiac approached someone with Ron Paul whom they thought could get the delegate list of names and laid out some lame excuse for wanting them. This writer knew it was happening and wrote his little story, probably because the McCainiac bragged that he could pull it off.

I don't think even McCain is insane enough to think that we would back him. Even if Dr, Paul asked us, I don't think I could do it and live with myself. It would require abandoning everything I believe in.

... but he blew that last Friday.
The one way was to talk Ron into running as his VP.
McCain is infirm so there's a nontrivial chance his VP would succeed him. Meanwhile, having a tie-breaking vote in the Senate and control of the gavel when he wants it might make Ron sufficiently influential there to make up for abandoning his seat in the House.
McCain would actually be worse than Obama as president. They are both in favor of the same Stalinist-style government activities but (like Nixon opening relations with Red China) McCain could get a lot more of it through. Only Ron as his VP would give me enough of a potential upside to cast a vote for someone carrying this increased risk.
(Of course precisely BECAUSE his VP might succeed him there's no way he and his handlers would go for Paul as VP.)
On CNN this morning at around 7:55AM EST, Ron Paul stated McCain was not in talks with them and he thought that was a ridiculous statement. I love how people make this stuff up, even the wash times.

Dr. Paul did not so much debuke this report as challenge the details. Sounds like the negotiations fell through and the NEOCON TROTSKYITE COMMIE'S are afraid of Paul walking on the RNC floor with an entourage.

News report I saw said that:
- They rejected both groups, except
- they accepted the six whose election had been completed (4 for Ron?), then
- they appointed their own choices to fill the remaining slots,
- and "just happened" to appoint only people from the party machine's slate.
I.e. they seated the machine slate while making a show of rejecting it.
Interestingly, the machine had bragged that there wasn't a single Ron Paul supporter in their group. So in a state where both Romney and Paul soundly trounced McCain, McCain gets all but some token delegates - who the state delegates had finished electing before the machine could pull the plug.
= = =
I think they're nuts to do this. They should have just let the Paul faction have their seats in the original State convention, or (given the dustup), given the seats to the Paul faction or some mix by a perceived-as-fair rule. Nevada has very few delegates. The neocons are costing themselves a lot more by running roughshod over its voters than by giving the whole state's worth of seats to Paul.
They rejected both delegations and then appointed their own delegates from the list of known delegates. The delegates that were chosen on day 1 of the NV convention were seated as well.
Until two months ago RonPaul2008 was having the most visitors and C4L is very close to McCain website traffic even if C4L doesn’t have daily national coverage.

They don't know the strength we have with our stealth delegates. Romney delegates are upset & want to vote for Romney. We're making strides getting RP nominated as well as getting him to speak.
I don't want to raise false hopes, but we are very happy with the progress we are making so far.

they must REALLY be feeling some heat. I doubt theyd be negotiating for Ms Pailn's support had Ron Paul been selcted as McCain's running mate after a life time of stellar service to his country.
they are worried all along and mistakingly think the Palin-VP issue would persuade Ron Paul supporters to vote. We, they are NOT going to succeed
with this ill fated attempt, not after all they have done to Paul and supporters. They KNOW McCain will lose without the Ron Paul vote, which is now larger than a few months ago. Ron Paul supporters are smart: they look at the GOP platform, and that does not reflect the basic of Dr. Paul's philosophy. They are also jealous over the fund raising records and need every bit of money now. Obama raised 2 times more in July than McCain.

There may have been some wishful thinking about picking up Paul supporters. But IMHO picking her is really about pulling disgruntled Hillary voters away from Obama. (And I think that is going to work a lot better than both Obama and Hillary would like.)
Notice that McCain finalized and announced this pick immediately after Obama's announcement that his ticket was NOT going to be Obama/Clinton.
The article mentions that McCain's staff is trying to win support from Paul "sympathizers" which include those who are formally committed to Dr. Paul as well as "closet sympathizers."
"Closet sympathizers"?
It sort of seems to me that they are hinting towards the fact that they know there are McCain delegates who prefer Ron Paul.
Could it be that they are worried about a potential delegate revolt?
Duh
.
McCain just doesn't get it.
Yup, just saw RP on C-Span...
No 'olive branch', no all's forgiven... just "hey, mind if we take a look at your delegate list?"

McCain's quotable quotes
I was reminded of this one today:
McCain once said, "Ron Paul is the most honest man in Washington."
Probably what really happened
is that some McCainiac approached someone with Ron Paul whom they thought could get the delegate list of names and laid out some lame excuse for wanting them. This writer knew it was happening and wrote his little story, probably because the McCainiac bragged that he could pull it off.
