Big Brother GOOGLE CHROME?

0 votes

Google just launched a new browser yesterday, "Goolge Chrome" and it has some people worried. Seems that Google, known for its aggressive terms of service will now allow "perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display" This post if it was made with Google Chrome would be their content.

11. Content license from you

11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services. This license is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the Services and may be revoked for certain Services as defined in the Additional Terms of those Services.

11.2 You agree that this license includes a right for Google to make such Content available to other companies, organizations or individuals with whom Google has relationships for the provision of syndicated services, and to use such Content in connection with the provision of those services.

11.3 You understand that Google, in performing the required technical steps to provide the Services to our users, may (a) transmit or distribute your Content over various public networks and in various media; and (b) make such changes to your Content as are necessary to conform and adapt that Content to the technical requirements of connecting networks, devices, services or media. You agree that this license shall permit Google to take these actions.

11.4 You confirm and warrant to Google that you have all the rights, power and authority necessary to grant the above license.

Use the only anti-Google

Use the only anti-Google site:

Look at the site BigT mentioned

It looks good too, and thanks for the tip.

Use CUIL as a browser instead.

CUIL is a browser built by a bunch of renegades that left Google, and created CUIL as a privacy-oriented browser.
They claim that they do not store any of your user records or hits, and will not turn over(and cannot turn over, since they don't have any records) your user info to anyone for any reason.

Correct me if I'm slightly

Correct me if I'm slightly wrong but CUIL is a search engine not a browser.

Yes, you're right

Sorry about the mistake.
I just automatically associate Google with search engine, and that led to my mistake..

Well, here I go again...showing my age

and lack of computer-savvy......what's the difference between a browser and search engine? Thanks for any input....

A browser is what you are

A browser is what you are using to look at this web-site. It's your "window" to the Internet.

A search engine allows you to search for things like "Ugly women, warm beer and Astrology forums" or "UFO stole my baby." 2 of my favorite subjects....

Nice search engine

I just looked at CUIL, it looks good. I have been moving away from Google for a while, unfortunately they do have a good search product. I am thankful you posted this.

As far as "Google Chrome" the web browser goes, people stay away for now, stick with firefox.

I'm using that browser now,

I'm using that browser now, and however it works, it is faster than FF or IE. Its just feels weird though, just have to get used to the look of it

Thats what I hear

I would like to try it but I cant agree to give up so much, so I will wait till I see a fork in the development that is a way more private.

.......geessshh....

the words "adapt" and "modify" are cause for consternation... It appears they could completely reverse the original intention....
