St. Paul was in Minneapolis Last Night

The two gatherings couldn’t have been much more different from each other. The G.O.P. convention, where the candidate has a good chance of winning the Presidency, felt more anxious than triumphant. The Paul convention, meanwhile, felt like a celebration even though its candidate got only a sliver of votes in the Republican primaries and wasn’t even invited to speak at his own party’s convention.

The G.O.P. convention has been a tribute to not only “country first” but, primarily, to government itself. The Paul convention, representing “the revolutionary wing of the Republican Party,” was as anti-government as a political convention could be. Arguments were made against nearly every task that government carries out, including taxation (not surprisingly) and regulation (of just about any sort), but also the funding of education.

The Paul convention was upbeat, heartfelt, and a bit on the wild side. If you didn’t know better, you might not have known their candidate had lost.

Paul Tops Off Rally For Republic With Fiery Speech

Excerpts:

MINNEAPOLIS — Ron Paul’s “Rally for the Republic” culminated Tuesday night with a speech from the man himself, who urged his supporters to advance their cause of limited government with “peaceful civil disobedience” and to beware of “counterfeit” ideas of change coming from the two major political parties.

The article also mentions an estimated crowd size of 12,000, and compares the Rally to the nearby RNC:

The evening’s backdrop at the Target Center in Minneapolis albeit smaller wasn’t that different from the forum decked out for the GOP in the twin city of St. Paul. But the big screens in back of the candidate, above the crowd, the lights, confetti and waving banners all conveyed a sense of a convention in its own right.

“And guess what? Not one single taxpayer cent was spent on this rally,” Paul said with reference to the Democratic and Republican events, which were funded with about $20 million each in public money to pay for security costs.

Would that we could feed a replay of Paul's speech into each Delegate's hotel room today, prior to voting!

They're still marginalizing us somewhat (although underdog status can really be helpful), probably because the interviewees were all smokers outside on break and "security" tried to keep them out.

But nice coverage of the family group that came.
