Republican Party of Iowa to host presidential debate in DES MOINES
Debate to be nationally televised by FOX NEWS CHANNEL
The Republican Party of Iowa announced today that it will hold its presidential debate at Hy-Vee Hall in downtown Des Moines. The event, to be held the evening of December 4, 2007, will be the first debate in Iowa to be televised by FOX News Channel this election season, as well as the first debate sponsored by the Republican Party of Iowa.
Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Ray Hoffmann said, "With the caucuses less than a month away, our December 4 debate will be very telling to Iowans and the nation. We are thrilled to be having this event in central Iowa, and right in downtown Des Moines which will be the epicenter on caucus night."
The debate will be limited to those candidates who have satisfied the following criteria:
1. Announced a formal campaign for President: and
2. Filed the necessary paperwork with the Federal Election Commission; and
3. Met all U.S. constitutional requirements; and
4. Garnered at least 5% of the national electorate as determined by an average of the most recent national telephone polls of registered voters conducted by non-partisan public opinion polling organizations leading up to the registration deadline as determined by Fox News Channel and the Republican Party of Iowa or garnered an average of at least 5% in the most recent polls of Iowa voters conducted by the American Research Group and the Des Moines Register.

A Republic, If You Can Keep It
Ron Paul Will Likely Be Excluded
I read on RonPaulForums the Iowa Communications Coordinator for Paul's Campaign said he placed a call to the Iowa GOP. And apparently it was in fact FOX News that determined the criteria for the debate. Why should we be surprised?
He also said that Ron Paul has NOT received an invitation to the debate, as of this time.
And it looks from the Press Release like they get to pick which polls they want to pay attention to, to determine if Paul gets in or not.
What a disgrace when Mike Huckabee, who can barely scrape a Million in a Quarter gets in, and Paul, who draws $4.3 Million in one day, can not get in.
These landline polls need to be investigated. Because I sense a major fraud with these polls, and what type of influence the GOP has over the results of these polls. This money that Paul raised is not coming out of thin air.
They're going to screw him out of the debate. I see it now. Until I see it in writing from Ron Paul's campaign that he will be there, I'm not buying it. Do we even live in a Democracy anymore?
FOX will pay a heavy price if they plan on going through with this. Hell is going to be unleashed.
Target Iowa with facebook fliers.
They said poll nationally or Iowa at 5%. We all need to buy facebook fliers for Ron Paul and target Iowa colleges and citys with them.
We need an advertising blitz in Iowa.
Also donate to opporation New Hampshire. They're running ads in Iowa also.
are their other ways to target iowa on the internet?

We need to MARCH on DES MOINES !
We need to be there. Feet on the ground outside the debate location. THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of feet on the ground in a peaceful demonstration of freedom right in front of the stubborn blindness of the debate organizers.
We can eclipse the debate event itself by our presence. We can co-opt the debate. A MARCH on DES MOINES can speak volumes of how We the People are being excluded from the greater debate concerning the future of our nation, the future of America. They say we have no people, no boots on the ground. We must show them and everyone in America THEY ARE WRONG.
...think what would happen if every donor and every member of a meet up group met in Des Moines. Ladies and gentlemen, we need Iowa. Let's SHOW them how much we need their support.

Don't be fooled
They said an average of polls and the average will be what they, and Faux say it is.
Dr. Paul will very likely be excluded.
Let them. This will be great for us. After making history, to be excluded by the bully Faux, will bring people in droves. People love to support an underdog who is being bullied. Just like I rooted for the Colts when the Pats were favored by 9.5!

"Resistance need not be violent, but the civil disobedience that might be required involves confrontation with the state and invites possible imprisonment." - Ron Paul
Agreed!
Even though we aren't backing any of these other candidates (and there may be others beside just Hunter and Tancredo), simple justice and fairness dictate that ANY candidate who is a Republican candidate for president in the state of Iowa should be allowed to take part in this debate.
If we don't stand up for these other candidates, we become just like all the neocons we so despise.
Paleoconservative
Shouldn't be a problem
According to that CNN poll released today, he's polling nationally at 5% so that shouldn't be an issue.
what if we rallied for Tancredo and Hunter?
Hear me out. What if we Paulunteers politely but firmly insisted that it's wrong to exclude Paul OR Hunter OR Tancredo? Could we establish some good will with the supporters of those guys? Would it be worth it in terms of degree of annoyance we might cause for the Iowa GOP?
I'm not very happy that they want to exclude any of these 3. Paul is my president, but Tancredo and Hunter are legitimate candidates IMO even though their support is lacking. I don't like excluding them if they're ready to participate, and I wouldn't mind making that sentiment known to the world -- again, politely... but firmly.
In fact... if it comes down to it, I think we might actually be better off showing some 3VOL for the others excluded, and holding a separate debate with them (if they accept) or just a rally (if they don't), but in any case making it clear that we think all 3 should have been included.

What is begun in anger, ends in shame.
whole-heartedly agree
Your idea keeps the spirit of "I can only be free if you are also free"
I've met Duncan Hunter and respect him. You should see the genuine affection he and his wife share...I sat near them at a fundraising dinner.
These candidates have a right to keep participating in the public forum until they decide to go elsewhere with their campaigns.
There is good will to be gained by supporting our fellow Republicans.
Thought you'd want to know....
I just got off the phone with the office of the Republican Party of Iowa - sorry don't remember the gentleman's name that I spoke with, but he was very polite.
I told him I have never been political (the truth), so I needed it explained to me exactly how this works; more specifically, I was interested in knowing if Ron Paul would be included in the debate that was announced today on their website, that was taking place in Des Moines in December. He said that the information had been mailed to the delegates today, and that they had until November 30th to respond, or comply with the stipulations listed on their website, and as long as he was supported with a 5% national poll, or 5% of the people in Iowa, he would be included in the debate.
yah kind of similar response except stated Ron right now doesnt
I spoke with Mary Tiffany at the republican party of iowa to ask about the hunter, tancredo and paul's campaigns. Hunter, Tancredo and Paul's campaigns apparently will not qualify with the current numbers.
But the campaigns have until nov 30 final polls to see if this changes.
Paul is of course on the line and like the three campaigns this is smart for iowa to push tons of investment and effort in their state...
Smart of them to do...
So how many people want to go to iowa and be volunteers?
Well good!
We've got the CNN poll that just came out with Ron Paul at 5%! :-)
Link?
got a link to this CNN 5% poll?
The one i found says 1%
thanks
Liberty and Freedom are a beacon; not a bullet.
remember its an average off all phone polls
Since its and average of a list, they didnt release as of yet this average could be lower than the CNN Poll.
It is an average or
he has to finish 5% in the two polls specified at the end.
Question
Like I said previously, I'm new to the political "forum"....does he have to stay at 5% until Nov. 30th, or does he just have to be at 5% on Nov. 30th?
republican party of iowa posting--good to think through this
Its interesting if you look up ron pauls pollings by their standards as one person has done he is polling 4% nationally and 1% by their poll.
So the question is will the republican party of iowa invite or deny him to the debate and when will they decide on that decision???
This is what happened last time in SC and people flooded the phones and they suddenly changed their story...
Good to be polite and ask...since they have posted these inappropriate primary criteries at this early stage on an accellerated, subset of the real vote, and very confused group of voters in iowa and nationally
interesting links/info to read and contact the iowa RP on.

Des Moines reporters posting:
November 6th, 2007 :: 12:30 PM
The Iowa Republican Party and Fox News Channel announced today plans for a Dec. 4 debate of the GOP presidential campaigns in Des Moines.
The Tuesday evening event is scheduled for Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines and comes as the race to the Jan. 3 caucuses enters its final month.
IT WAS UNCLEAR WHO WOULD ATTEND, although only those candidates who had support of at least 5 percent of those surveyed in recent national polls or The Des Moines Register’s Iowa Poll are invited, Iowa GOP officials said.
That would include former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Arizona Sen. John McCain, U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson. It could leave out U.S. Reps. Duncan Hunter of California and Tom Tancredo of Colorado.

I Don't think
they should cut any candidates this early it the race. All candidates should have an equal chance to convince the voters.
Yeah, but then the GOP may
Yeah, but then the GOP may not select a neocon....
